01:38fine of 1.5 million dollars to a school district whose board rejected a curriculum including a biography

01:45of gay rights leader harvey milk and signed a bill prohibiting schools from banning textbooks based

01:51on their inclusion of references to people from minority groups or the lgbt community in july 2024

01:59he signed the safety act which prohibits schools from outing students gender identity to their parents

02:05without the students consent newsome vetoed several bills passed by the assembly by a wide margin

02:12one of which would have instructed judges who preside over custody battles to take a parent's

02:16affirmation of a child's gender identity into account and another of which would have mandated

02:20that insurance plans serving california residents cover the cost of gender affirming care in october

02:262023 newsome vetoed a bill to ban discrimination based on caste calling it unnecessary many hindu rights

02:33organizations applauded the veto saying the bill would have put a target on hundreds of thousands of

02:38californians simply because of their ethnicity or their religious identity advocates for the rights

02:44of delitz and other violently oppressed castes sharply criticized the veto in october 2023 newsome

02:51vetoed a bill to provide unemployment insurance to striking workers citing excess burden on the state's

02:56unemployment system he also vetoed a bill to expand the mandatory warning given to soon to be laid off

03:02employees from 60 days to 75 extend the same protections to long-term contract workers and

03:08prohibit employers from making laid-off employees sign non-disclosure agreements in order to receive

03:13severance newsome's first international trip as governor was to el salvador with nearly 680 000

09:15newsome and his family moved to a house they bought in kentfield in marin county in 2012. after his

09:21election as governor newsome and his family moved into the california governor's mansion in downtown

09:26sacramento and thereafter settled in fair oaks in may 2019 the sacramento b reported that newsome's 3.7

09:35million dollars purchase of a 12 000 square foot home in fair oaks was the most expensive private

09:41residence sold in the sacramento region since the year began in august 2021 newsome sold the marin

09:47county home for 5.9 million dollars in an off-market transaction he had originally put the property up for

09:53sale in early 2019 for 5.895 million dollars but removed the property from the market after a price

10:01reduction to 5.695 million dollars newsome is the godfather of designer model and lgbtq rights activist

10:11nat's getty in 2023 newsome launched campaign for democracy a pact to take on authoritarian leaders in

10:18the u.s it is thought to be a starting point for a possible 2028 presidential bid as of july 2024

10:26campaign for democracy has raised 24 million dollars for direct contributions to candidates and other

10:31spending the group is not subject to contribution limits but it can coordinate with newsome as long
