On the back of two brilliant Oasis gigs, we went out into Manchester to ask people on the street which musician or band that they wish they could have the opportunity to see.
00:00Hello and welcome to Manchester World. My name's Theo Hewson-Bett and it's the start of another brilliant week here in the city of Manchester.
00:06Now today I'm out on the streets of Manchester talking vaguely about Oasis.
00:11How could we not of course? This weekend Just Gone saw their first gigs back in the city for a long, long time.
00:17And obviously it's captured the imagination of every manc across Greater Manchester.
00:22The question that we're asking today though is only slightly related.
00:25We want to know if there was a group or an act to do a big comeback tour, a big comeback gig, who would people want to see most?
00:33We are going to allow them to say people who have died because you know, why not?
00:37This is a hypothetical after all and then we're going to let them pick someone who's definitely alive and definitely might be up for doing a little reunion gig here in Manchester.
00:46So let's go see what people have to say.
00:48Mine would definitely be Elvis.
00:49What's worth a preface to this to say, we actually did go and see Oasis on Friday and that would have been my answer a year ago.
00:56It was an absolute dream come true.
00:57They were like my band growing up and I genuinely never thought they'd get back to it again and it was 10 out of 10, unbelievable despite the heat.
01:06But away from them, we've literally just been talking about Morrissey walking up, so I think we saw a Smiths, like a mural or something like that.
01:13And that would be my other answer, the Smiths, so that definitely will never happen.
01:18I mean, they've been separated a lot longer than Oasis ever were.
01:22For me, it's probably a couple that I wish I'd have seen, well, two or three I wish I'd have seen.
01:28Prince, Freddie Mercury and probably David Bowie.
01:33I think the list goes on and on, John Lennon maybe, but a lot of the iconic singers and bands, Prince, you know, I've said Perper, and I like Prince's guitar playing.
01:44After he died, I saw him playing at one of the concerts and doing a lot of guitar work and I was blown away by, yeah, my guitar, Gentle Weeks.
01:55He got it. That was shredded on, that was absolutely amazing.
02:00So I didn't realise how good he was till after, so that's a regret.
02:03I definitely have to go for Bob Dylan at New Corpete Festival, just because I think to witness that kind of turn and putting his career there from being like a kind of food artist to like more of like an electric kind of art and art and art and art and art, right?
02:16There's definitely, as we've talked about, a lack of bands since the year 2000, it seems to have gone down and down.
02:26Everybody's just playing with a guitar, Red Sheeran style or Taylor Swift and that.
02:31You've got just single singers, solo, but we've got a lack of bands.
02:37To be honest, one of my favourite bands of the minute are from around here, The Lathams.
02:41Love The Lathams and things like that. I like somebody who can write good songs and I like the bands.
02:49I think I went to see The Rolling Stones in their recent tour and actually like, I think, I mean, I know obviously they're still like an old band, but like considering they're on like the 80s, they can still like command the stage.
