00:00Morning. Welcome to your latest update from the Met Office. It's fair to say the weather's changed tack a fair bit over the past 36 hours or so.
00:08It's going to be a wet day for some. Welcome rain in places, but also unseasonably windy.
00:14The wet and windy weather's been moving in through the night across Northern Ireland, up into southern and central Scotland,
00:20spreading across Northern England and into parts of Wales and the Midlands.
00:23Much of East Anglia in the southeast won't see much rain, generally staying dry along the south coast.
00:29But it will be quite breezy here. Some of the strongest winds, though, are going to be further west.
00:33Let's deal with the rainfall, though, first of all, because if we look at it building up through the day,
00:38six-hour rainfall accumulations through the night starting to build up across Northern Ireland
00:43and then spreading into Wales, western England and southwest Scotland.
00:48Now, over the hills in these locations, we could see 75, maybe even 80 millimetres of rain.
00:55But even at lower levels, 20 to 30 millimetres of rain is possible.
00:58As I mentioned at the start, welcome rain for some because it has been quite a dry spring and summer, to say the least.
01:05It's also been a pretty warm summer so far.
01:08But today, temperature's much closer to the average and feeling quite a bit cooler with that rainier zone
01:14over Northern England, North Wales, Northern Ireland and Southern Scotland.
01:18Having said all that, Northern Scotland will brighten up after a bit of a damp start.
01:22Here, across the Western Highlands, we could get over 20 Celsius and probably over 20 Celsius across the southeast.
01:28But again, that's 8, 9, maybe 10 degrees lower than it was through the weekend.
01:32Then you've got the winds to add on, making it feel even fresher.
01:35The south coast of England, but particularly the coast of Devon, Cornwall, the south coast of Wales,
01:39the west coast of Wales in seasonably windy conditions.
01:42Something to bear in mind if you are heading to the beaches here.
01:46Far from beach weather, though, for most places, with the heavy showers continuing into the evening,
01:50slowly pulling away, but staying pretty wet over parts of Yorkshire, Lincolnshire,
01:55well into the evening time.
01:57And we'll start to see cloud and rain just pushing back into the far southwest of England, too.
02:02Elsewhere, though, it does turn largely dry.
02:04There'll be some clear skies.
02:05We've got the fresher air as well.
02:06So a reasonably comfortable night.
02:09Certainly a lot cooler than many a night of late.
02:12Towns and cities may hold up in the teens, but many rural spots will be lower than that.
02:16So a coolish start to Wednesday, but for many, actually, looking like a fine day tomorrow.
02:21Quite a bit of cloud across Devon, Cornwall, the Isles of Scilly and the Channel Isles.
02:25Some outbreaks of rain on and off here through the day, perhaps into parts of Pembrokeshire.
02:29And across the parts of northern England, eastern England, here we could see some thicker cloud.
02:35Won't be that sunny here.
02:36And a few scattered showers.
02:37But for the vast majority, I think it will be a dry and a bright day tomorrow with some good spells of sunshine lifting the temperatures.
02:43A warmer day than today, feeling warmer because the winds will be light.
02:47And with a bit of sunshine, we're likely to see those temperatures more widely over 20 Celsius.
02:5124, 25 if possible in and around the London area.
02:54It may be even up to 26.
02:56And temperatures could creep up a little higher through the rest of this week.
03:00But there's a bit of uncertainty towards the end of the week.
03:03For more details on that, you'll want to watch our weather for the week ahead.
03:06That Alex Burkill did on Monday.
03:09So you can watch that on our YouTube channel.
