00:00Nightly greetings to all, Patrick Dezos here, homegrown and happy to bring you KTV News Now.
00:07Atop our news leaderboard tonight, wasting no time to get things rolling in his new office and designation as newly minted acting PCO Chief,
00:17Secretary Dave Gomez said earlier in the afternoon he intends to conduct a comprehensive assessment of the work duties and tasks performed by his office prior to his appointment.
00:28An worthwhile journalist himself as a member of the Malacanang Press Corps in the time of President Fidel V. Ramos Gomez said,
00:37another department-wide meeting which kicked off today after his oath-taking is up again tomorrow and even more in the following days.
00:45Gomez said he has no plans as of yet to seek courtesy resignations from all his division and section heads in the department like his predecessor did.
00:55He intends, however, to pursue his predecessor's main platform of taking on and waging war against the spread of fake news and conspiracy theories,
01:06which is deeply ingrained in a sub- or counter-culture that thrives online.
01:10Researchers from down under have managed to cleanly extract sodium chloride and oxygen from seawater to produce hydrogen,
01:23totally eliminating desalination from the process.
01:27This achievement could well be a breakthrough in the production of clean hydrogen derived from an abundant,
01:33eco-friendly source as we hear from more from VOA's Julie Sabo.
01:38Hydrogen is an important and abundant element that's increasingly being used
01:50to power our cars and generate electricity to heat our homes and businesses.
01:56But most of the world's hydrogen is derived from fossil fuels,
01:59which creates millions of tons of polluting carbon dioxide each year.
02:03Green hydrogen, however, can be produced by renewable energy, such as wind or solar power, without carbon emissions.
02:10And now, researchers at the Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology in Australia
02:15have developed a way to make green hydrogen directly from seawater,
02:21without putting it through desalination, which is a costly and carbon-polluting process.
02:25The reserves that we have for fresh water, they are very limited.
02:30And to produce one kilo of hydrogen, we need 10 kgs of water.
02:35With the world grappling with a growing freshwater crisis exacerbated by climate change,
02:40hydrogen production at that scale is simply not sustainable.
02:43So we need to find alternative ways.
02:45We searched for over seven years and we found that seawater is the best option.
02:50Once the team collects the seawater, they use an electrolyzer to split the water directly into oxygen and hydrogen.
02:58There's no other possibility at the moment that we can decarbonize our society.
03:03That's why we think that our technology is a big breakthrough.
03:06Clean hydrogen is central to the Biden administration's efforts toward a cleaner energy future,
03:11as more countries explore it as an alternative fuel source.
03:15Countries are recognizing that in order to meet their climate goals,
03:18they're going to need a carbon-free molecule.
03:21Hydrogen really offers that versatility for multiple applications.
03:26Mahmoud and his team are among a growing number of scientists
03:29working on innovative hydrogen initiatives as a sustainable fuel source for the world.

03:40At this moment, let's lend our eyes and ears to my colleague
