Goods Train Fire Near Thiruvallur, Tamil Nadu — July 13, 2025

A goods train carrying diesel from Chennai Port derailed near Thiruvallur early Sunday, causing four wagons to catch fire and spread to additional coaches. The blaze produced massive smoke and panic among residents, who were evacuated as a precaution.

Over 25 fire tenders and NDRF teams were deployed to control the fire, detach unaffected wagons, and secure the area. No injuries or fatalities have been reported.

The derailment disrupted suburban and express train services on the Chennai–Arakkonam line: 8 trains were cancelled, 5 diverted, and 8 short-terminated, affecting thousands of passengers.

The cause of the accident is under investigation. Restoration work is ongoing, and normal services will resume once the site is declared safe. Helplines have been set up to assist passengers.
