00:10Siegel and Schuster worked on the idea of a definitive version of Superman,
00:14an alien being endowed with superpowers, who would act as a hero.
00:20After being rejected by several publishers, Detective Comics finally accepted the character.
00:25In the end, Siegel and Schuster sold all rights related to Superman to DC Comics,
00:31then called National Comics for a total of $130.
00:36On the 18th of April, 1938, the first issue of Action Comics was released,
00:43featuring an image of Superman lifting a car above his head.
00:47Superman quickly became one of the most well-known characters in the world.
00:50The Superman stories flew off the shelves.
00:52It was this popularity that made Siegel and Schuster realize they had been deceived into selling the rights to Superman.
00:59Siegel was told that he and Schuster could easily be replaced.

01:11Even though they wouldn't become rich from Superman, they agreed to keep working on the comics.
