00:00So you want me to explain Superman to you? Listen up, because this may take a minute.
00:04This is Superman. He's the fastest man alive. That's not actually true, he's just really fast.
00:09He can run faster than the speed of sound, which in case you didn't know, makes you invisible and
00:13gives you super hearing. It also allows him to perform the world's greatest special move,
00:17the super spin. There are few things more devastating than when Superman gets all spun
00:21up and then punches you right in the face. Just ask Mr. McSpan. He has superhuman strength enough
00:26to lift a train car with one hand or punch out the Hulk by a locomotive and fly into outer space
00:31without a spacesuit. But he's not invincible. He can bleed, he can be tired and in certain
00:35situations like fighting doomsday, he can die. But when that happens, sometimes, and I mean
00:41sometimes, when that happens, he comes back to life. He can fly anywhere on earth in less
00:46than a second and pretty much anywhere else in the universe in less than a minute. And while
00:50he normally doesn't fly faster than a speeding bullet, when he does he can be pretty hard
00:54to hit. His eyes can shoot lasers that could melt your face off, but he'll never use them
00:58unless it's too light his cigarette. He can see really well even when no one else can see
01:02anything at all. Like after Darkseid destroys Metropolis, Superman flies around the smoldering
01:07city looking for survivors. In fact, once he even saw a tear in the fabric of the universe
01:11and flew through it to fix it, he has super hearing, which he uses to listen in on conversations
01:15that he wants to hear. He can listen to people talking from miles away or, in some instances,
01:20even hear thoughts. His skin is so strong that he doesn't need clothes, but he wears them anyway.
01:25But if he ever takes them off, it won't matter because he has super breath, meaning he can freeze
01:28your lungs in the winter and blow your guts out in the summer. He has super speed, allowing him to
01:33do multiple push-ups in a row. He can move so fast that he's practically invisible. And his reflexes
01:38are quick enough that it doesn't matter if you punch him first, he'll still knock you out.
01:41And finally, he has super intelligence, which means he's basically always right. Well, maybe not
01:47always right, but definitely right more often than he's wrong. It also means that he speaks
01:51multiple languages and can come up with clever plans to defeat bad guys, except most of the
01:55time he just punches them really hard instead. And those are just his primary abilities, because
02:00Superman has many other abilities as well, like flight rings, super smell decelerated healing
02:04factor, near invulnerability, stamina and endurance, telescopic vision, x-ray vision, microscopic
02:11vision, telescopic vision, night vision, infrared vision, super sense, electrokinesis, magnetism,
02:18immortality, self-sustenance, increased heart rate and blood flow, heightened awareness, sonic
02:24invulnerability, resilience to magic, psionic energy absorption, resistance to toxins, weather
02:30manipulation, stress resistance, probability manipulation and matter manipulation.
02:35Wow. Yeah, he's pretty powerful. But what makes him the hero that we all love is what's
02:39inside of him, because Clark Kent was born Cal-El on the doomed planet Krypton.
02:44Jor-El, his father, was one of the planet's greatest scientists who discovered Krypton was
02:48about to explode. So he placed his newborn son in a rocket ship and sent him away before Krypton
02:53exploded. The ship landed in Smallville, Kansas, where Jonathan and Martha Kent found him and
02:58named him Clark after the sky, which at that moment was filled with shooting stars. He grew
03:02up there living an idyllic small town life until one day he heard a radio broadcast of a dam
03:07breaking and decided to use his superpowers to stop it. From that day forward, he used
03:11his powers for good, helping out anyone that he could. Soon, he would get a job at the Daily
03:16Planet, becoming best friends with Jimmy Olsen and eventually marrying Lois Lane. Together
03:20they had a son named John, who Superman trained to one day carry on his legacy. But who is Superman
03:25without his powers? Well, let's talk about that. In order to keep his identity safe, Clark Kent
03:30developed a disguise that concealed his appearance and demeanor. This disguise consisted of glasses,
03:35glasses, a slightly balding haircut, a slightly receding hairline, five o'clock shadow stubble,
03:40and most importantly, being really, really awkward. When he puts it on, nobody recognizes
03:45him as Superman. Even Supergirl, who had known Clark since childhood, failed to recognize him
03:50when she first saw him as an adult. Clark's secret identity as Superman goes back to the
03:54very beginning. When he first arrived in Smallville, he told everyone that he didn't have a last
03:58name, that his parents died in a tornado and that he was orphan. However, Jonathan and Martha
04:02Kent eventually told Clark that this wasn't true. They were his real parents and he did
04:06have a last name. Kent, Clark was then able to blend in easily as one of the Kent's adopted
04:10sons. As Clark grew older, he attended Smallville High, where he struggled to keep his identity
04:15hidden. However, after graduation, he left Smallville to attend college, where he met
04:20his future wife, Lois Lane. But why should you care about Superman? Why does he even matter?
04:25Well, that's because Superman represents hope. Hope for a better tomorrow. Hope that good will
04:29triumph over evil. Hope that someone is watching over us. The thing is, Superman is more than
04:34just a comic book character. He's become a cultural icon, a symbol of truth, justice, and
04:39the American way. He's been featured in everything from movies to TV shows to video games to serial.
04:45Why? Because he's the ultimate hero. He's powerful, he's brave, he's selfless, and he always does
04:50the right thing. He's everything that we want to be and everything that we look up to. In a world
04:54that can often feel dark and hopeless, Superman is a beacon of light. He reminds us that even
04:59in the darkest of times, there's always hope for a better tomorrow. He's a symbol of truth,
05:03justice, and the American way. But beyond his powers and his symbolism, Superman is also just
05:08a really cool character. He's relatable, he's funny, and he knows that he's a superhero and he
05:13embraces it. So whether you're a longtime fan or a newcomer to the world of DC Comics, I hope you take
05:18the time to get to know Superman. I think you'll find that he's a hero worth knowing. Okay, now that you
