00:00I spent more time with them. Which way am I facing? This way?
00:04This has been really good. I mean, we've had really great interactions.
00:08I don't agree with that assessment. I mean, look, at the end of the day, the United States
00:12has built these tremendous trade imbalances over the last 30 or 40 years. It's unfair
00:16to American and American workers, and American, in addition to threaten our industrial capacity,
00:21trade needed to be revisited. The president campaigned on that,
00:24and that's what he's doing, and he's resetting it on a global scale.
00:28At the end of the day, look, I think countries are going to trade with multiple countries.
00:32We don't view this as an opening for anyone. We don't view it that way. We view it as an opportunity
00:35to reset global trade in a way that's fair for Americans
00:39after two or three decades of unfairness. If you look at some of these trade deficits,
00:43they're massive. They're massive. So I understand if you had a deal
00:47where you were running these huge trade deficits with the United States and exporting
00:51a lot to the U.S. and built your economy around exports, but had very little
00:55import or very little economic activity coming in from the United States, I understand why
01:00you don't want that to change. But I think most mature leaders, and everybody here
01:04is a mature leader, understands that that's not a sustainable dynamic. It's one that had
01:09to be changed, and that's what the president's doing. So we're going to be okay.
01:12And in discussing...
01:13You know, the baseline will take effect the 1st of August, but obviously,
01:16as the president's made clear, there are opportunities for adjustments based on
01:20arrangements that could be made between now and then. But beyond that, it's been very positive.
01:24All of our engagements here have been very positive. We've been very warmly received, and...
01:28...from U.S. dependents in key areas, such as security, as Tokyo faces the prospect of tariffs.
01:34Did you discuss that in your meeting with the generals?
01:36No, we haven't. But at the end...
