00:00I think there's some areas of potential cooperation.
00:06I thought it was a very constructive, positive meeting
00:08and a lot of work to do.
00:10He's absolutely right that the President
00:12has a very good relationship with President Xi.
00:14It tracks back to his first term.
00:16And, you know, obviously there are some issues
00:19we're going to have to work through,
00:20and that's to be expected with countries of our size and scope
00:23and influence in the world to global powers
00:26such as the United States and China.
00:27But I thought it was a very constructive and positive meeting
00:30and gave us some things we can work on together.
00:33Yeah, no, the odds are high.
00:34I think both sides want to see it happen.
00:36Obviously we have to build the right atmosphere
00:39and the right deliverables so that a visit isn't just a visit,
00:42but it actually has some takeaways from it that are concrete.
00:45But there's a strong desire on both sides to do it.
00:47The President wants to do it.
00:49The Chinese side wants to see it happen.
00:51President Xi said that publicly.
00:52So I think the odds are high.
00:53I don't have a date for you, but I think it's coming.
00:56It'll happen.
00:56Mr. Secretary, what do you think?
00:57The reason why I tell you there's a high probability
00:59they're going to meet is that they both want to meet.
01:01And I don't know President Xi, but I know President Trump,
01:05and, you know, I can tell you that he's committed
01:07to having that meeting happen.
01:09So the reason why I think there's high odds of it happening
01:11is they both want it to happen.
01:13So I'm sure we'll work on a date
01:14and find a mutually acceptable date for both sides,
01:18and I'm pretty confident.
01:19We want it to be a good meeting.
01:21We're going to work hard between now and whatever date that is
01:24to make sure that when that visit does happen,
01:26it's as productive as possible.
01:28But I would say that it was a very positive interaction,
01:32and constructive is the most important part.
01:34At the end of the day, look, no matter what,
01:36the United States and China have to have relations.
01:39We have to have communication.
01:40We have to be able to interact with one another.
01:42And it's just impossible for the foreign ministers
01:45of our respective countries to not engage in conversation.
01:48So I'm glad we had that meeting today.
01:50There's a lot of work to be done.
01:52No one's saying it's easy,
01:53but we do have some opportunities on some things
01:54we might be able to work on
01:55to begin to build some momentum in our relationship.
01:59I thought it was a very good meeting.
02:01I really felt encouraged by it.
02:02But look, there's work to be done.
02:04I think the Chinese position on Taiwan has been expressed.
02:08I don't think it's a mystery to anyone
02:09in terms of where they stand on it.
02:11And our position has also been expressed pretty openly.
02:15So it was not, as I said,
02:17our meeting today was not a negotiation
02:18or a back and forth on items.
02:21It was more about establishing a constructive baseline
02:25where we can continue to talk on multiple fronts,
02:27including trade, but beyond trade.
02:30Thank you, everybody.
02:30Thank you.
02:30All right, guys.
02:31Thank you.
02:31Thank you.
02:32Thank you.
02:32Thank you.
02:32Thank you.
02:32Thank you.
02:32Thank you.
02:32Thank you.
02:32Thank you.
02:32Thank you.
02:34Thank you.
02:40Thank you.
