00:00Red Sox turning around, hottest team in baseball, Keith.
00:02Oh, hot as a pistol.
00:03Back in a playoff spot.
00:05I think they just hit another home run.
00:06They may have.
00:07Speaking of hot, you know who Rob Bradford has brought to you by.
00:10Oh, yeah, of course.
00:11Also a hot, hot man.
00:13McFarlane Energy, the heating, cooling, and bioheat delivery pros
00:15that Eastern Mass and all of Cape Cod depend on
00:18at McFarlaneEnergy.com.
00:22Rob, I don't know if you can talk to your guys over at McFarlane
00:24about cooling off the beef between Will Clark and Will Fleming.
00:28We might need to.
00:28I'm like, first of all, we got to get McFarlane on the left field wall.
00:31Like, what are we doing?
00:32If they really want good players.
00:34I don't get shouted out, yeah.
00:35But I was just saying that, you know, I was sitting in the car at 1030.
00:40I was just laughing.
00:42Oh, you guys did such a good job with that.
00:44The Will versus Will.
00:46And I feel like this is the summer of Will, right?
00:49Oh, yeah, for sure.
00:50Like, you know how, like, kids were named after Brady for all those years?
00:54Sure, no doubt.
00:54I think we're going to look back at this summer and say everybody was named
00:57after Will, Will Middlebrooks, Will Fleming, Will Clark.
01:02I just found out recently that my wife named her son.
01:06Yeah, so this is, speaking of naming people after people,
01:11you remember that guy Colby Donaldson from Colby from Survivor,
01:16early Survivor?
01:17No.
01:18No.
01:18You don't?
01:20Will Fleming, you can go, f*** off, motherf***er, all right?
01:24Yeah.
01:25Yeah, no, I don't.
01:25I don't.
01:26I didn't watch Survivor.
01:27Call me who.
01:27Go ahead.
01:27So anyway, I found out that my son has been named after that guy because my
01:32wife may or may not have liked him a lot on Sunday.
01:35No kidding.
01:36And he found that out after the fact.
01:38So that was sneaky.
01:38Here's the thing.
01:39That is.
01:40He was in a movie.
01:41I'll get to the Red Sox in a second.
01:42But with the, I was watching a movie, Red Eye.
01:46Remember that Red Eye movie?
01:47What a thriller.
01:48That was like an 80-minute in-and-out Wes Craven thriller with Rachel
01:51McAdams.
01:52Yeah, Wes Craven.
01:52Of course I remember that.
01:53Yeah, yeah.
01:53I haven't seen it.
01:54So Colby Donaldson is a security guy.
01:56He's a security guy.
01:57He looks familiar.
01:58And so I did the Wikipedia search, and it says at the end of his
02:02Wikipedia page, it's like, Colby Donaldson's guy in Survivor, it was
02:06revealed that thousands of people named their kids after this guy.
02:11And I'm like, well, I guess we're one of them.
02:14Killian Murphy, young Killian Murphy, prior to Oppenheimer, also in Red Eye.
02:17Very scary.
02:18Haunting eyes.
02:19Yeah.
02:19Yeah.
02:20But to come back to the Wills.
02:21Sure.
02:22I mean, I am all about the Will versus the Will.
02:26But this is outrageous when you really think about it, because it was Will
02:28Clark who offered up this anecdote about Devers.
02:31We had already, we had sort of moved on from the David Ortiz piling on of
02:36Devers and like the smear campaign for Devers, which really it started when he
02:39was even on the team, to be honest.
02:41But then Will Clark offers this up, and you're like, oh, wow, more of the
02:44same.
02:44And then now to see him so defensive about it, it's just really comical.
02:47Yeah.
02:48Listen, when you guys submit your nomination for Marconi, to have the
02:52clips of Will Clark saying, I don't know where this came from, I would never,
02:58ever say that I would grab someone by the neck.
03:00And then playing, I would grab him by the back of the neck.
03:04I mean.
03:04It was AI, though, according to Will Clark.
03:06Yeah, it was AI.
03:06It was all AI.
03:07I mean, that's another thing.
03:08It was all a simulation.
03:09Who had that on their baseball bingo card a couple of years ago, that Will
03:13Clark would be defaulting to AI when it comes to like trying to defuse a
03:18baseball controversy?
03:19Hilarious.
03:20It's all crazy.
03:22I mean, it's all wild.
03:23And like I said, I mean, like the Devers stuff, it is what it is.
03:26But if this is what comes out of it, the chaos, I'm all for it.
03:32Sure.
03:33We had Craig Breslow, or he was on the front office report with the Greg Hill
03:37show today.
03:38He mentioned impact pitching as something the Red Sox could target.
03:42He didn't fully shy away from acknowledging they could trade from a glut of
03:47outfielders.
03:48So what do you think the Red Sox are looking at doing between now and the
03:51trade deadline?
03:52I wouldn't be surprised if they traded an outfielder.
03:54I know that one team has told me that, you know, they had introduced Jaron
03:59Duran into a conversation.
04:01I don't think that should come as any surprise.
04:04And not to say that, hey, hey, we're going to absolutely trade Jaron Duran.
04:08But at some point, whether it's this year or whether it's after this year,
04:13they're going to have to figure this out.
04:14They have too many guys hitting, especially hitting from the same side of the
04:17plate.
04:18It is going to be a challenging thing.
04:20I think they'll probably ride this out a little bit because you don't know what's
04:24going to happen.
04:24You don't know if someone gets hurt and then it's going to turn the other way.
04:27But if you get to the trade deadline and you're still in this situation, I would
04:32not be surprised at all for them to say, hey, we're going to trade a guy who is a
04:37very, very useful guy for something else.
04:41And I don't think that should be perceived as selling.
04:43I think guys, I mean, at this point, the buying selling thing, we already talked
04:48about how motivated they are to be perceived as buyers.
04:52And now that you're four games over 500, you are where you are in the standings.
04:56You've sort of righted the ship in terms of perception of what you are as a team.
05:00I mean, you have to be.
05:02You have to do whatever you can to win this year.
05:06And that's why that Bregman report made no sense.
05:09The whole, they would be open to trading Bregman.
05:12No, they aren't.
05:12No way.
05:13No way.
05:14Ralph said it.
05:15Yeah.
05:15I don't buy, I didn't buy that one either.
05:18If they were to trade Jaron Duran, what do you think the clubhouse reaction would be?
05:25I mean, I think that they, a lot, they, a lot of guys in there love Jaron Duran.
05:29They respect Jaron Duran.
05:30They think he's part of the solution.
05:31Um, but it is what it is.
05:35It's, you know, I think that we had Adam Adovino on, he was talking about the Devers thing the
05:39other day and he said, you know, as baseball players, yeah, you might get rattled a little
05:44bit and then you sort of move on.
05:46Um, I don't, this is, but I'm not going to compare this to Devers.
05:49You know, I, I don't think it's apples to apples.
05:51I think Duran is more of the fabric of, of this team than certainly Devers was.
05:58So, uh, yeah, it would definitely be a risk.
06:01There's no question about it, but at the same time, you know, you, you, you just have to
06:06get the best talent in the field, however way you got it.
06:09I think it would be a risk also if you trade away a Jaron Duran, because he, I think think
06:15people are underselling how important he can be and how much part of the solution he is
06:20and how impactful and how unique he is as a player.
06:24We kind of forget that.
06:25And we've kind of been reminded the last week or so, so that play last night was nuts.
06:29Just a, a, a liner up the middle.
06:31And next thing you know, he's on third base.
06:32We've been like downplaying Duran because he hasn't had the year he had last year.
06:37But if you look at what he's done over the last couple of weeks, like he's become that
06:42dynamic player and, and guys to find that sort of player, a leadoff hitter or a perceived
06:48leadoff hitter who does what he does.
06:51Like, that's hard to find.
06:52And that's why San Diego has obsessed over him.
06:56You go back to before last year.
06:58Like, I know that San Diego had a scout in for a long time, last, last homestand.
07:04I mean, that's no secret that San Diego really, really likes Jaron Duran.
07:08Whether that means they're going to trade for him, I don't know.
07:10But there's a reason why people really teams around the league say, Hey, you know what?
07:15He's a very, very unique player.
07:18You tweeted something yesterday about Joe Ryan.
07:21John Marossi had a report that the Red Sox were monitoring Joe Ryan.
07:25If the twins fall out of it, they're going to need a haul, et cetera, et cetera.
07:29You said he was a target when the twins were asking around about Cassis before the year.
07:34So I'm curious, your understanding of that, were the Red Sox the ones saying no, Cassis
07:39for Joe Ryan as the particulars?
07:41Or was it the other way around?
07:42Was Cassis not enough?
07:43No, no, no.
07:44I think Minnesota, you know, they needed a first baseman.
07:48You know, obviously Tristan Cassis, you go back to Seattle, there was some talk there.
07:53So when it came to Minnesota saying, Hey, what would it take to get Tristan Cassis?
07:59Because I think Joe Ryan's name was brought up because the Red Sox, as I point out, the
08:03Red Sox really, really liked Joe Ryan and Minnesota said, thanks, but no thanks.
08:08Because Joe Ryan is really, really good.
08:11He's under control for another two years after this year.
08:14And when it, and my point in that tweet was, yeah, there's a lot of buzz about Joe Ryan.
08:20And yes, that's an evidence that the Red Sox really liked Joe Ryan.
08:24I don't think anybody should think that that's a secret, but I think that it takes two to
08:31tango.
08:31And I think that, that right now to get Joe Ryan, I mean, you're talking about like a
08:36crochet type deal.
08:37And for the Red Sox, is that something they're willing to do?
08:41It's going to cost, what I'm saying is it's going to cost more than people think to get
08:45Joe Ryan.
08:46Joe Ryan isn't just like, Oh, we're going to go get him.
08:48No, no.
08:48He's got, he's got control.
08:50He's a good pitcher.
08:51He just made the all-star team.
08:52Um, but once again, the Red Sox have liked him for a long time.
08:56Alex Bregman could be activated any day now.
08:59And when he does, what will happen to Marcelo Meyer?
09:03You know, I would love to see Marcelo stick.
09:07I like to watch him play.
09:08I, there was such a subtle play in last night's game where I don't know if you guys saw it.
09:14You know, he charged the ball down the line and he's so nonchalant and so confident.
09:18He just, it was almost like, does he understand this is a fair ball and he just gets it and
09:25he sort of flips to first one hops, uh, Romy Gonzalez and it's an out.
09:30He, he's just such a confident player.
09:33And, you know, I know that he hasn't got a lot of runs against lefties.
09:37I would love to see him stick.
09:38All of that said, I would not be surprised to see, see them send him down just because
09:44they, this, because they want to see him play.
09:47Um, you know, they have this platoon going, you know, so I don't know definitively if that's
09:54going to happen for me.
09:56I want to see Marcelo Meyer play second.
09:58I want to see Alex Bregman play third.
10:00I want to roll it out that way.
10:02I don't know if that's going to happen though.
10:04Okay.
10:05That is a discouraging.
10:06I want that as well.
10:07Me too.
10:07He is Rob Bradford, W E I.
10:09You can check them out there.
10:10You can follow him on Twitter at Brad foe.
10:13And of course, listen to the baseball is in boring podcast on the Odyssey app.
10:17Uh, Brad foe.
10:17We appreciate the time.
10:18Thanks so much.
10:19We'll talk to you guys.
10:19Keep up the good work.
10:20You're pitching a perfect game today.
10:22I'm not superstitious.
10:27Come on.
10:27I'm a little stitious.
10:29I'll step on the white line.
10:31Thank you, Brad.
10:32Always a pleasure.
10:33Uh, thank you, Rob.
10:34Uh, yeah.
10:35You don't say that out loud.
10:36Never.
10:36I'm at least a little stitious.
10:37So if you, did you ever do play by play for baseball?
10:40Yes.
10:40Very many.
10:41Uh, on the veto games.
10:42Ironically, on the veto.
10:43Sick brag, bro.
10:44Yes.
10:45Theo, Theo actually scouted him at a Northeastern game and I did the play by play.
10:48My high school teammate and a dear friend, Tristan Bessie on those teams as well.
10:52But, um, if there was a no hitter going, and I'm sure there probably was without a Vino,
10:56like in the fourth inning, would you just straight up say no hitter or would you like
11:00talk around it?
11:01Probably by accident.
11:01Yes.
11:02I probably was like, no hitter for Adam on a Vino through three.
11:05And then the next pitch is a single smoke.
11:08Yeah.
11:08No, I mean, I'm sure I'm sure I didn't really even think about it that much.
11:11I'm just like, he's got no hitter.
11:12Yeah.
11:12Yeah.
11:13Cause I think it's different.
11:13I feel like if you're doing it on the radio, you kind of have to explain it.
11:18You have to say it where if you're doing TV, they put the graph.
11:22You can kind of work around it if you want to, you know, be the superstitious guy.
11:25Yeah.
11:25Cause then at least everybody at home knows what's going on.
11:27No, on the radio, you have no idea if you're listening to a no hitter unless they say it.
11:30I could find a, no, they wouldn't be tapes.
11:33Well, mini discs.
11:34Tapes.
11:35W RBB.
11:36If I can find one of those, turn those on, shut her to listen to it.
11:41That's a good, that's how most people feel about this show.
