00:00Aacharji, Namaste. So, it is a very deep topic you talk now. So, how Buddha manage
00:12without Atma and Ishwara? He don't mention these things. And can you a little bit explain
00:24or find this link? How Buddha manage all those things without talking about soul or God?
00:31In his philosophy, these things are not mentioned anywhere.
00:35You mean the historical Buddha?
00:37Historical, Gautamadi Buddha.
00:39So, what do you want to know about him?
00:42He just talked void that you are saying when we look inside there is a void.
00:47But he never mentions soul or God or those kind of spiritual
00:52fantasy.
00:56There is no need.
00:58Yeah.
00:58So, yeah.
01:00There is no need.
01:03The way of Gautam Buddha was absolutely the way of negation.
01:10He said that which you are calling as the self or Atman is actually not the self.
01:18It is your mere imagination.
01:20So, he talked the language of Anatma.
01:25He said that which you think of as Atma is Anatma.
01:31That which you talk of as Atma is Anatma.
01:34The moment you say Atma, it has turned into Anatma.
01:37Then does Atma exist?
01:39Better not talk about it.
01:41The moment you talk about it, you will be rendering it false.
01:46That was his way.
01:49And isn't this way quite beautiful and obviously authentic?
01:54What does Atma mean?
01:55Atma means me.
01:57It's me.
01:57Whatsoever you call as the self.
02:01Whatsoever you decorate with meanness.
02:08Sooner than later becomes your trouble.
02:11It does not last.
02:15The association is incidental.
02:18So, he would just look at our sense of I and say, is there anything that you call as the I, that you associate with the I, that is really meaningful, really trustworthy?
02:43Haven't you seen time take away even your most dependable identities and relationships?
02:57Is there anything that you identify with or own or call as your own?
03:08That does not live in the shadow of doubt?
03:22That you do not suspect to betray you at some point or the other?
03:27If you were to be told X or Y or Z has betrayed you, does there exist even a single X or Y or Z that you would refuse, absolutely refuse to believe as the betrayer?
03:57Maybe you will have reluctance accepting that the betrayal, the disappointment has come from such a trusted one.
04:10But then, the betrayal is not impossible and if it is not impossible, then you cannot be at rest.
04:25You would forever be suspicious and afraid.
04:29That was the way of Gautam Buddha.
04:31He would not give you another fantastic palace of dreams.
04:40He would say you already have too many fantasies.
04:44You already are living in an infinite number of dreams.
04:49You already carry so much self-certified knowledge.
04:56I do not want to give you anything more.
04:59I just want you to see that that which you are already carrying, already possessing, is not allowing you to live freely.
05:10There is no problem that you have except that which you have.
05:13That was his way.
05:23Yes.
05:24So where there is difference Vedanta and Buddha?
05:28Which point exactly?
05:30The Aham of Vedanta is the Anatma of Buddha.
05:42That's the only difference.
05:44Words.
05:46What Vedanta calls as Aham, Buddha calls as Anatma.
05:51What Vedanta calls as Anatma, Buddha remains silent about Anatma.
06:02And Iswara, Sunyata Buddha says, Iswara of None.
06:06When I say Buddha remains silent about Anatma, that silence corresponds to Sunyata.
06:16Iswara and all Buddha had no interest in.
06:23Even Vedanta has no interest in all these things.
06:26If you go to Acharya Shankar, he will say, as long as the Jeeva takes himself to be truth,
06:35an Iswara becomes necessary for him.
06:37But an Iswara holds any value, any sanctity, only as long as the Jeeva takes himself as true.
06:51So just as Braham is the counterpart of Atma, Iswara is the counterpart of Jeeva.
06:56Till you take yourself as the person, as the Jeeva, there will exist an Iswara for you.
07:06That Iswara will remain necessary for you.
07:10But when you start taking yourself as Atma, then Iswara is gone.
07:15Then only Atma remains.
07:18And the other name of Atma is Braham.
07:20I am Atma, I am Braham.
07:21And Maya of Vedanta in Buddhism become what?
07:27Maya?
07:29Maya does exist in Buddhism as well, though in other names.
07:35So Buddha does talk about all that deludes you in quite detail.
