00:00The High Court here has acquitted former UMNO Supreme Council member Isham Jalil of contempt over remarks on Najib Razak's 1MDB-related cases.
00:09Justice K. Muniandi said the prosecution failed to prove that Isham's statements, made in late 2023, pose a real risk of interference in the administration of justice.
00:20He said the claim that the administration of justice was derailed or sullied by the statements does not hold water.
00:26Muniandi also said the allegation that Isham's statements had scandalized the judiciary appeared untrue.
00:33Filed on December 28, 2023, the application to cite Isham for contempt concern statements he allegedly made during an interview titled Town Hall for Justice, Keadilan Sebenarnya Untuk Siapa, published on September 30 through a Facebook account known as Malaya Post.
00:49In an affidavit filed in support of the leave application, Deputy Public Prosecutor Mustafa Kunyalam claimed that Isham had commented on Najib's 1MDB and SRC International Trials and on the federal court's conduct of the final appeal in the latter case.
01:06Isham allegedly accused Justices Colin Lawrence-Sekera and Nazlan Ghazali of bias and said they should have withdrawn from hearing the cases.
