Speaking to reporters at JBA, President Trump discussed tariff letters going out to other nations.
Transcript
00:00We're going to start sending letters out to various countries starting tomorrow.
00:13We'll probably have 10 or 12 go out tomorrow.
00:17And over the next few days, I think by the 9th, they'll be fully covered.
00:21And they'll range in value from maybe 60 or 70 percent tariffs to 10 and 20 percent tariffs.
00:32But they're going to be starting to go out sometime tomorrow.
00:36We've done the final form.
00:37And it's basically going to explain what the countries are going to be paying in tariffs.
00:42And it's very important.
00:45It's a lot of money for the country, but we're giving them a bargain.
00:48Because if I went by the true deficits or by other ways of measuring, it could be a lot more.
00:56We don't want to stretch it too much.
00:59We want to keep it pretty reasonable.
01:01And I think it's actually, I think it's very reasonable.
01:04The Press, what countries will you be sending those letters to first?
01:08We're going to be sending to, well, you're going to see tomorrow.
01:10I'd rather give it tomorrow.
01:11But we have probably 12, 10 to 12 tomorrow.
01:14And then after that, we'll be sending 10 or 12 a day.
01:19And as we get along, as we get to the smaller countries, we're pretty much going to keep the tariffs the same.
01:25Are there any countries that will have a little flexibility with that deadline?
01:29Not really.
01:30I mean, they'll start to pay on August 1st.
01:34The money will start to come into the United States on August 1st.
01:38Okay?
01:38In pretty much all cases.
01:40Thank you very much, everybody.
01:42Thank you very much.
