'I Probably Start Them On August 1st': Trump Discusses Upcoming Tariff Deadline

Speaking to reporters on Air Force One, President Trump was asked about his post-pause implementation on tariffs.

00:04Yeah, we might. We're looking at it.

00:06On tariffs, Mr. President, why are they only coming into effect in August?

00:11Well, I'd probably start them on August 1st. Well, that's pretty early, right?

00:17I mean, you know, because we're talking about...

00:20Yeah.

00:21So when do you think they should come into effect?

00:23Sooner? I don't know how they could be sooner.

00:26We waited about a 90-day period.

00:28We probably had 90 days or so.

00:32And really much longer than that, because we've been looking at this for years.

00:37We've been looking at it. I've been looking at it for a long time.

00:40I can tell you every single country, and I can tell you every single deficit that we have and they have.

00:46I've been looking at it for many years, frankly.

00:48And I think it's ridiculous that countries were able to get away with so much.

00:53Mr. President, I had a question.

00:58He had a great call with the German Chancellor.

01:00He's a strong guy, very good man, had a great victory.

01:07No, we did talk about it, though.

01:09And he feels, you know, they have to be protected.
