Pope Leo arrives in Castel Gandolfo for a holiday after two months of papacy
Pope Leo XIV arrives at Villa Barberini for his summer holiday after his first two months as leader of the Catholic church, which Vatican insiders say has been spent calming the waters after his predecessor's volatile papacy. The town of Castel Gandalfo, outside Rome, is a longtime country residence for pontiffs that Francis never used. Leo is expected to move into the papal apartments of the Vatican's Apostolic Palace, rejected by Francis in favor of a simple apartment in the Santa Marta guesthouse, in the autumn after extensive renovations, according to a Vatican source.
