Join me at a Surfers Paradise collection point for a quick health check-in! I’m getting a routine blood test to track my sodium levels while breastfeeding. My 2-year-old, Spencer, and 12-year-old, Amity, are along for the adventure. Spencer gets a little nervous around needles, but Amity steps up like a champ to keep him calm, making it all so much easier!
I’m currently drinking three Hydralyte drinks a day to balance my electrolytes, but I’m considering switching to natural options like Himalayan rock salt—those food colorings in Hydralyte make me a bit uneasy. The test was super smooth, and we celebrated afterward with ice cream for Spencer and sushi for Amity as a treat for being awesome.

00:00um we're being very loud today so I've got the kids with me yay I'm going to get another blood
00:08test basically so we're going to this place here which is quite close it's in the middle of
00:14Central Paradise everything's close here in Central Paradise so we're really lucky but um
00:19blood tests are basically going to be my new routine really I think for at least during
00:26breastfeeding I think I'm going to have to really look after my electrolyte balance and check my
00:31sodium level because um breastfeeding does it does tax a woman's body quite a lot which I didn't
00:38realize how much and so you do really need to make sure that you're getting the right nutrients
00:43because the breast milk is not going to go lower in quality it's going to basically just mean that
00:50the mum gets a bit depleted or a lot depleted in my case um because it's going to prioritize
00:56making the breast milk be as as good as it should be uh which is the right thing to do obviously
01:02it's how nature works it's how evolution works so it's up to the mum to really try and make sure
01:08that she keeps track of her health I know the little one's getting patients I'm going to go
01:12in basically I'm going to be having um blood tests every two weeks so I'm still on three
01:18hydrolyte drinks a day so we'll see what the levels are balancing out what I would like to
01:23do eventually is merge onto more salt in my food like like Himalayan rock salt and things
01:30like that and less reliance on these hydrolyte drinks so we're going to see um you know if
01:37I can balance them at a good level for a while and then um and then see if I can merge on to
01:42having more salt in my food so anyway like this this is my my new routine blood tests
01:49come on yes are we going to go into here and get it done
01:54whichever whichever whichever can you talk to Spencer a little bit while I'm
02:17so whenever I'm having something done Spencer gets really upset like when I was taken away
02:23in the ambulance when I had the seizure which is obviously why I'm having all my salt levels
02:29trapped he got so upset and I forgot everything else pretty much about that night but that that
02:36cut through the fog I really have a vivid memory of him crying as I was being put into the um
02:42ambulance so yeah your child's cry really does cut through pretty much I guess anyone
02:49but yeah I've had so many blood tests although my veins are really good like they look really good
02:57but they're slippery like they're slippery like they move away
03:00yep
03:01you're all right
03:07you're all right
03:19darling you're all right love this is only gonna take a sec

04:01That was actually extraordinarily painless, I actually didn't feel that out of his brain.
04:08Mummy's alright darling.
04:10I'm a little bleeder so I have to always hold this.
04:13Even when I get skin needling I bleed all the way.
04:16I know, Spencer's upset but Ami's with him.
04:20It'll only be a second.
04:23So I always have to hold this because I do bleed a little bit.
04:27That was actually really painless like that.
04:29Blood tests, a lot of people are really scared of blood tests.
04:32But that's fine.
04:44I'm getting wet.
04:47So for being so patient we've gotten ice cream for Spencer and sushi for both Ami and Spencer.
05:02But anyway that didn't hurt at all.
05:04So that's fine now.
05:05That's just there tucked in.
05:06So it's not bleeding.
05:07I have actually had some that will then start bleeding.
05:10So I did press that for a little while.
05:11So it's all good.
05:12But anyway so yeah like I said the blood tests are now sort of my new norm.
05:14I think at least while I'm still breastfeeding.
05:16But I am going to see what these levels are like and maybe if I can keep adding more healthy salt to my food I might be able to merge a little bit off these electrolyte checks.
05:23But we'll see how we go.
05:24The powdered versions have got a little bit less food dye in them I think than the treats.
05:25But anyway.
05:26So that's done.
05:27I didn't mean that.
05:28What I'm trying to do is to get away that after I'm going to go to the body, I'm going to
05:31keep my brain an eye-bearing to make a little bit of an eye-bearing to them.
05:32That's what I was going to do.
05:33I'm going to take my brain an eye-bearing to your brain an eye-bearing to make a good
05:34eye-bearing to make a good eye-bearing to make a good eye-bearing to make a good eye-bearing.
05:36But anyway.
05:37So yeah.
05:38Like I said the blood tests are now sort of my new norm.
05:39At least while I'm still breastfeeding.
05:40But I am going to see what these levels are like and maybe if I keep adding more healthy
05:43salt to my food I might be able to merge a little bit off these electrolyte checks.
05:46But we'll see how we go.
05:48The powdered versions have got a little bit less food dye in them, I think, than the greens.
05:53But anyway, so that's done and it's no big deal.
05:56And if you are scared of blood tests, don't be, because they would have gotten hurt.
