00:00it's right there if you look well
00:03it turns out that this small gap has a name and it serves a very important
00:06function
00:07the space between your toes is called the hallux valgus
00:10it's what allows your foot to grip the ground when you walk or run
00:14is because the hallux valgus creates a lever that helps to increase your stride
00:18now some people have no space at all
00:21between their big toe and other toes and it's totally fine
00:24it just means that they have a different type of foot structure
00:28nine a secret language in the animal kingdom
00:31there are many species that can communicate with each other for example
00:35dogs can communicate with wolves and cats can communicate with lions
00:39can they communicate with animals from other species
00:42in some cases the answer is yes
00:45take for instance the gibbons and the honbills
00:49these two species live in the same rainforest habitat
00:52and they use a secret language to communicate with each other they use a
00:56series of calls to warn each other of danger for example if a tiger is
01:00approaching the gibbons will call out a warning and the hornbills will respond
01:03by making a loud noise the earth is constantly changing continents are moving
01:08apart from each other and new islands are being formed all the time but did you
01:13know that some islands can actually move take for instance the island of
01:17madagascar this island is home to a variety of unique animals and plants
01:22including lemurs but madagascar is also moving it's moving away from mainland
01:28africa at a rate of about two inches per year this massive island is actually
01:32moving towards north america at a rate of about one inch per year eventually it
01:38will collide with canada and new land will be formed seven colorful urine have you
01:45ever wondered why urine is yellow now you may think that it's because of the food you
01:49eat but that's not the case the color of urine is actually due to a pigment called urochrome
01:55normally urine is clear but when there is a high concentration of urochrome it can turn yellow
02:01some cases urine can even turn green or blue this is usually due to a medical condition such
02:06as a urinary tract infection if your urine is a different color it's important to see a doctor
02:12so they can determine the cause six animal superpowers from the tiniest insects to the largest
02:19whales each animal is perfectly adapted to its environment but some animals have abilities
02:25that go beyond the ordinary take for instance the chameleon this amazing reptile is able to change
02:31color in order to camouflage itself it does this by controlling the pigments in its skin another animal
02:38with an incredible ability is the archer fish this fish is capable of shooting down its prey using a jet
02:44of water it does this by sucking in water and then forcing it out of its mouth at high speed
02:50this allows the archer fish to catch insects and other small creatures that are flying above it
02:55no five a drop in the ocean when we think of the ocean we imagine a vast body of water that covers most
03:02of the earth we know that the ocean is full of amazing creatures from the smallest plankton to the largest
03:09whale but did you know that the ocean is also full of plastic that's right there is more plastic in the
03:15ocean than fish every year humans produce 275 million metric tons of plastic waste and much of this waste
03:24ends up in the ocean plastic waste is killing sea life once inside their bodies the plastic waste can
03:30cause all sorts of problems can block their digestive system or cause them to choke plastic waste is also
03:37killing the coral reefs the plastic waste is made of tiny particles that are called microplastics
03:44these microplastics are killing the coral polyps when the coral polyps die the coral reefs turn white
03:51this process is called coral bleaching number four the amazing spider there are over 40 000 species of
03:59spiders in the world some spiders are small and some are large some are hairy and some are smooth but no matter
04:06what they look like all spiders are amazing creatures spiders are able to create webs that are strong
04:12enough to capture their prey they do this by spinning a thin thread of silk silk is so strong that it can
04:18support the weight of a spider spiders are also amazing predators they are able to sense danger through
04:24vibrations in their webs when they feel a vibration they quickly wrap their webs around their prey in a few
04:30seconds the spider has captured its meal three color changing leaves have you ever wondered why
04:37leaves change color in the fall you may think that it's because the weather is getting colder but
04:41that's not the real reason the real reason is because the days are getting shorter as the days get shorter
04:48the trees start to produce less chlorophyll chlorophyll is the green pigment that makes plants look green
04:53without chlorophyll the leaves start to turn yellow and orange eventually the leaves fall off the trees
04:59number two talking to plants have you ever wondered if plants can hear you when you talk to them
05:04maybe you've talked to your house plants before but did you ever wonder if they could hear you
05:08well it turns out that plants can actually hear us talking to them in fact they can hear sounds as low
05:13as two hertz this means that plants can hear our voices as well as the sounds of animals and machinery
05:19plants can't respond to sound but they do react to it so next time you're talking to a plant don't be
05:25surprised if it starts to listen no one liquid water you may think that water is just a simple
05:30substance that's made up of hydrogen and oxygen but did you know that water is actually a complex
05:36molecule with some amazing properties for example water is the only substance on earth that can exist in
05:42all three states solid liquid and gas water is also the only substance that we know of that can dissolve
05:49more substances than any other liquid this is why water is often called the universal solvent
05:55water is also an excellent insulator this is why ice floats on water if i sank then all of the fish in
06:01the ocean would freeze and die finally water is essential for life as we know it all living things
06:09need water to survive in fact the earth is sometimes called the blue planet because it's covered with water
