Mark Atkinson reports from Ibrox.
Transcript
00:01Good evening from Ibrox Stadium, Mark Atkinson from the Scotsman here, having watched Rangers' first pre-season match for 2-1 draw with Club Bruges from the Belgian Ducla League.
00:1329,000 fans were here to watch the first unveiling of a Russell Martin football team in Rangers Colours.
00:20I didn't learn a huge amount to be honest in terms of the new signings. Only one of the five started Max Ahrens at right back.
00:29The rest were either on the bench or not involved at all.
00:33What we did learn in the first half when Club Bruges went to Nalap and completely outclassed Rangers is that some of the players that have been here in previous regimes probably either aren't equipped to play under Martin or need a lot more time to get used to his way of playing football.
00:49High possession, high pressing, attack-minded football. To be fair, we were to Rangers in the second half. They played much better and earned the 2-2 draw.
00:56Goals from Mohamed Diamande and Findlay Curtis right at the end. Diamande actually made a big difference with Adin Bajrami when he came on to give Rangers more oomph in midfield.
01:06Rangers fans booed the team off at half-time, which I felt was slightly unfair given this is a friendly, and they cheered them loudly at the end, which sort of shows the fickle nature of football.
01:18There's probably more interest about who wasn't in this Rangers team. John Suter still recovering from injury. Russell Martin says he's progressing well from a small hernia operation.
01:27And serial Dessers and Hamza Igimane, the two strikers that have been linked with moves away from Rangers, they didn't play. Dessers was here. He's got a slight ankle knock but should be back training next week.
01:38Igimane, Russell Martin revealed, has a red tape issue, as he put it, a visa issue for the Moroccan, but he should be back in the country for Monday.
01:47And Martin said that he hopes to work with both players next week. The Rangers manager confirmed that they did receive a bid for an unnamed club for Dessers. We believe that would be Ike Athens.
01:56But he said that was way short of valuation. He's looking forward to working with them. One thing Martin also did touch upon was more arrivals.
02:04They've already signed five players and he admitted the squad will look much different in a couple of weeks' time when they take on Panath and Icos in the Champions League qualifiers.
02:12I'm sure Rangers fans will have enjoyed watching their team for the first time under the new head coach.
02:17What's apparent there's still lots of work to be done after this pre-season friendly, which finished against Club Rouge 2-2.
