A new tropical depression is set to bring flooding impacts to the Carolinas this weekend.
Transcript
00:00We are already seeing some watches out, specifically into South Carolina here.
00:05We do have a tropical storm watch that has been issued.
00:08This is to indicate that in the next 48 hours, we are expecting tropical storm wind gusts, that level of wind gusts.
00:16Now, that's not the only thing that we are talking about.
00:19As we take a look at radar and satellite looped over the last couple of hours here, like I mentioned, but we'll take a closer look,
00:24we have the scattered thunderstorms already into Florida.
00:27But off the coast, we already see that low spinning, that tropical depression that is bringing, you know,
00:33the core of it is still in the ocean right now, but we are expecting it to make landfall Saturday overnight into Sunday.
00:40We're expecting that landfall in South Carolina.
00:43Overall, though, these are all of the areas that are going to be seeing the biggest impacts tomorrow through tomorrow overnight.
00:49So we're talking about heavy rainfall with thunderstorms.
00:52Flooding is certainly a concern here.
00:54For damaging wind gusts, we're talking 40, 50, 60 mile per hour wind gusts, which, yes, those are on maybe the lower side for some tropical systems that we see.
01:03It's enough, though, to bring some power outages to bring some damage.
01:06And certainly we're looking at rip currents.
01:08We're talking about coastal hazards really throughout the weekend and into early next week.
01:12We take a look at future radar here and you can see widespread rainfall, heavy rainfall by this evening into Florida.
01:18That's really going to ramp up.
01:19But then it just kind of comes in waves, as tends to happen with a system like this, right?
01:23We look at 4 p.m. tomorrow, another round of some more widespread heavy rainfall.
01:27But then we go into the overnight hours.
01:29We get to that landfall point and we are going to see the focus shift up to the Carolinas and then eventually up into Virginia.
01:37Florida, you're not completely in the clear.
01:39You have kind of scattered thunderstorms left behind.
01:42But our focus continues to shift north as time goes on here.
