Daniel Wales looks at the latest Bristol Rovers transfer news.
Transcript
00:00Now for Bristol Rovers, obviously they're going to want to ensure that they continue to bounce back
00:07and make sure that Daryl Clark has that promotion experience and utilises it again.
00:12With Bristol Rovers, the club really had a great tenure in, you know, 10 years or so ago.
00:19I mean, in terms of the transfer business, it's a big window.
00:22It's a window where they have to make sure they do sort of clear out a few free agents
00:27and they get some real clever signings in to ensure that they are right bouncing back up.
00:33You know, at the end of the day, they don't want to be anywhere nearly to come 12 months from now.
00:38They want to be making sure they're preparing for another League One season
00:41and hopefully it can all go to plan for Daryl Clark and his side.
00:45Now, you know, the transfer window is still ticking on and the contracts are there
00:50and the retain lists are there.
00:53For Bristol Rovers, we're going to our correspondent, Dan.
00:55Dan, what do you think Bristol Rovers need?
00:58What can you sort of tell us about where they are in terms of this window?
01:02How they're viewing it?
01:03How they're going about their business?
01:04Is it sort of continuing from previous windows?
01:07Have they changed any strategies now that they have been relegated?
01:10And then they might need to change a few plans to make sure they go straight back up
01:14because, you know, Daryl Clark has come to a side where, you know,
01:17he could probably punch way above Bristol Rovers' weight, let's be honest.
01:20But surely something's enticed them to come back and there's a bit of a plan
01:24and a project to get them back to League One.
01:27So, Dan, what are your thoughts ahead of this window
01:30and how it's sort of panning out for Bristol Rovers ahead of the new campaign?
01:34Well, Charles, for Bristol Rovers, the last few days have been a little bit more quiet.
01:39Of course, Bristol Rovers have been very busy so far in the transfer market.
01:43They've brought in a whole host of players since Daryl Clark and Ricky Martin
01:47have taken over the reins at the club in terms of, obviously, Ricky Martin being a director
01:52and Daryl Clark being the head coach.
01:54Of course, he's also then brought in two assistant head coaches in Rhys Carr and John Stead.
01:59But, yes, we've had the likes of Brad Young, we've had Alfie Kilgore,
02:02McCauley Southern-Hales, to name just a few.
02:07But it's been a little quiet in the last couple of days and that's OK
02:11because, of course, you think, well, they don't always have to be signing players.
02:15We've had other clubs across the country who've done a lot of early business.
02:18Bristol Rovers probably being one of those as well.
02:20So it means that they can't afford to have something of a day or two off
02:24when it comes to bringing in players.
02:26So all is not suddenly, in terms of their transfer business, all is not gone.
02:31I think a lot of people at the club will certainly be very happy
02:33with the business they've done so far in their response to being relegated.
02:37It all started, of course, with bringing in Daryl Clark as the new head coach
02:41and his ethos and his will to win at the club has really shone through.
02:46And certainly a lot of the signings have talked about the manager
02:49and wanting to fit into his style of play
02:51and being impressed with the way the club has now been run at the court.
02:55It's, of course, their training facility and how it's looking good.
03:00And some players as well who have already been at the club
03:02and who are already at the club saying things feel and look new,
03:06which is really quite good given how last season ended at the club
03:09and how poor things were under the previous regime.
03:13So clearly a lot has been going on behind the scenes at Bristol Rovers
03:18just to ready them and just to give the club something of a reset, to be honest,
03:22because let's be honest, things weren't good at the end of last season at all.
03:25And so they've brought in a lot of new signings.
03:27They've brought in new people to run the football side of things as well, of course,
03:32off the field as well.
03:33So things have had that big reset at the club.
03:37And as well, I think as well, just to focus on what I've just said again,
03:40the fact that current players are saying that the training facility feels and looks new
03:45is just showing that work has been done and had to be done, to be honest,
03:50to make things seem just more fresh and give the club a bit of a fresh overhaul.
03:56I mentioned the word reset there, and that's essentially what it is
03:59because things weren't good last season at all.
04:02But now the fact that they've brought in a lot of new faces as well,
04:05it gives everyone a bit of a boost to see new players coming in.
04:09It creates competition in places, means the squad doesn't go stale as well,
04:12and they're not going into this new season in a different league,
04:15feeling the same way that they finished the season in the previous league,
04:19which for the club and for the supporters in particular,
04:21just makes everything feel a little bit more fresh and a little bit more up-to-date,
04:25a little bit more modern, and so they're not going into it
04:28with still that sort of poor demeanour that they finished last season with.
04:32So, our Bristol Rovers at the moment, things looking good.
04:36Still more signings probably to come in as well, but at the moment,
04:39I think you'd have to give them a lot of good marks
04:41for the way they've conducted business so far this window.
04:43Let's go.
04:43Let's go.
04:44Let's go.
