A man who shot and killed a trespasser on his property north of Adelaide has been to life in jail. 48-year-old Keith Yandle was found guilty earlier this year by a supreme court jury for the murder of Steven Murphy.

00:00Yandel remained composed while hearing his sentence of at least 32 years jail however he became
00:08agitated and started yelling a series of expletives as he was being taken from the dock.
00:14Mr Murphy was found buried beneath Yandel's shed in Cuddler north of Adelaide in April 2023
00:20after being shot dead four times by Yandel in February. During sentencing Justice Anne Bampton
00:27referred to Mr Murphy's murder as callous and inhumane. She said Yandel had ample opportunity
00:33to contact authorities about the trespasser but instead chose to take the law into his own hands.
00:39A Supreme Court jury previously found Yandel had killed Mr Murphy and watched him die before burying
00:46his body in a pit under the shed. The court at the time heard the matter was drawn to the attention
00:51of police when Yandel's brother reported it. Yandel's son Marco was in the shed that night
00:58and has previously been sentenced. Yandel faces the mandatory sentence of life behind bars
01:04and won't be eligible for parole until 2055.
