00:02:17Hip-hop, breakdancers, families, black music, graffiti, dance, freestyle, legato, cultured, rap, but it's all hip-hop.
00:02:28Hip-hop is like a vehicle. You can use it to go anywhere you want to go.
00:02:31Yeah, that's what hip-hop is. It's the way you dress. It's your style.
00:02:35You know what I'm saying? Some wear braids in the East. Some wear the curls back in the day.
00:02:39Some used to wear the top fades. It's about the culture. You live it.
00:02:42It's not just saying, yo, I do hip-hop. You gotta live it.
00:02:46Because hip-hop is how you walk, talk, live, dress, act, see, smell, fart, shit, fuck.
00:02:51You know what I mean? It's all that right there.
00:02:53Everything we do. Like, if I hand this to him, I'm gonna hand it to him.
00:02:57Hip-hop is like, I'm gonna go. Like this.
00:02:59You know what I'm saying? I'm gonna do something to make it hip-hop.
00:03:03You know, I don't give a fuck what it is. You know, I'm gonna put the hip-hop twist on it.
00:03:07You know what I mean? Anybody got different slings.
00:03:08You got the Brooklyn slings, you got the West Coast, you got the Down South, like the Goody Mobs, all that.
00:03:14So it's a culture, and we're all part of it.
00:03:17We all got our own type of slang. It's like talking your own language.
00:03:22I heard they had a hip-hop slang book.
00:03:25And they had words in there like B-boy, B-girl, fresh, chill.
00:03:32We ain't used them shit since we was like nine years old out this motherfucker, man.
00:03:36We don't even be saying coolin' no more.
00:03:39What's up, huh?
00:03:40If you say what's up to somebody and they say I'm chillin' the fresh way,
00:03:44motherfucker's gonna look at you like you from another planet or something, man.
00:03:48Wear it up.
00:03:48Well, when you discuss the history of hip-hop, you gotta understand that hip-hop has many starts.
00:03:59Hip-hop had a start in gospel.
00:04:01It had a start in jazz.
00:04:03It had a start in blues and rock and roll, disco, hip-hop.
00:04:08Hip-hop is a culture, the mother of four or five different elements like rap, scratching, breakdancing, and graffiti.
00:04:22Rap is something that's being done.
00:04:26Hip-hop is something that is being lived.
00:04:28A rap artist can be anybody from anywhere, but you've got to visit the Bronx.
00:04:36Period.
00:04:38Wherever you are in life, wherever you want to be, you will always be a rap artist until you visit the South Bronx.
00:04:50Look at the projects.
00:04:52Look at the people.
00:04:54See the environment that hip-hop started in.
00:04:59Go to 123 Park and just stand there and imagine the birth of a culture.
00:05:07Happening in this very spot.
00:05:10The Bronx is hip-hop.
00:05:18Graffiti, breakdancing, emceeing, and DJing.
00:05:21All came from the Bronx.
00:05:22Yo, where we standing right here, this is a historical place in hip-hop.
00:05:27This is like where it all began pretty much.
00:05:29The godfather of hip-hop, Kool Herc, used to live right here in this building, 1600, and he used to give jams right here in this little park.
00:05:37You know what I'm saying?
00:05:38Plug up to a light pole or get electricity from one of the windows and just play right out here.
00:05:43This was back in 1974.
00:05:45Yeah, I was hip to New York hip-hop.
00:05:47You got to give props what props is due.
00:05:50They originated it.
00:05:52Anybody that doesn't believe that is tripping.
00:05:56You know what I'm saying?
00:05:56I know niggas in the Bronx, they sparked it up.
00:05:58But, you know, it traveled from project to project.
00:06:01And they just spread it, and now it's bigger than ever, and it's going to get bigger.
00:06:05Ghetto kids didn't really have the money to learn how to play instruments or take singing lessons, but they found a way, regardless, you know.
00:06:12Because the spirit was still telling them to make some things, so it's like they just used whatever was around, whether it be a turntable or a little nasty mic and some old dirty records.
00:06:23And that's how the whole thing starts.
00:06:26DJs are the ones who started this hip-hop thing.
00:06:30Back on man, Kool Herc, Grandmaster Flash, all of them in the Bronx, you know.
00:06:34It was like radio shockwaves with new styles of scratching and stuff.
00:06:38It's one of the original instruments of hip-hop.
00:06:41Us DJs would, like, go nuts and try to learn how to do those cuts.
00:06:45Howie T might do a new scratch on his record.
00:06:47He did this one scratch.
00:06:48He went like...
00:06:49He did that.
00:06:52When he first did that, everybody was bugging out.
00:06:54And then, like, Mixmaster Ice did this scratch out.
00:07:01He did that.
00:07:02And then, obviously, DST freaked everybody out on Herbie Hancock's stuff when he was like...
00:07:07And early, the first DJs in the Bronx.
00:07:32would spin the records and they would only play
00:07:34the breakdown of the record.
00:07:35They would play, every record breaks down,
00:07:38go ahead, down, and it breaks
00:07:39until it's the beat and the drum.
00:07:47These are break beats,
00:07:48you know what I'm saying?
00:07:49And a break beat can be anything
00:07:51from any kind of record,
00:07:53any kind of music, be it classical,
00:07:56be it soul, jazz, pop,
00:07:58rock, anything.
00:08:00It's any record that has a breakdown beat in it.
00:08:04So Flash and people like that,
00:08:06Grand Wizard Theater would spin these records,
00:08:09but they would only play the breaks.
00:08:11And people would dance over the breaks
00:08:12of the records and these were called break dancers.
00:08:19Back then, everybody that I knew
00:08:21that really had mad flavor
00:08:23in b-boying or popping
00:08:24used to be a hardcore criminal.
00:08:27Popping came along and it made a difference in my life.
00:08:29You're too busy learning how to windmill
00:08:31and to rob and steal,
00:08:32and you're too tired to fight
00:08:33after you done battled somebody
00:08:35and took all your aggression out
00:08:36on some dancing, you know.
00:08:40Hip-hop ain't no easy game to play.
00:08:42If you ain't got no style,
00:08:43hang it up, sit down.
00:08:45My characters make people enjoy themselves
00:08:47with how I move my body
00:08:49and everything like that.
00:08:49So I feel it's a part of fun,
00:08:52popping and breaking
00:08:53and making people laugh.
00:08:58It's not just a hype thing,
00:09:00something that we're just into
00:09:01just to make money.
00:09:02It goes way deeper,
00:09:03deeper than that.
00:09:04You know, they say,
00:09:08well, breaking is not hip-hop,
00:09:09you know.
00:09:11Come on, if breaking wasn't hip-hop,
00:09:13you know, they don't know the history.
00:09:15Breaking means to me that
00:09:16it's a way of expressing myself,
00:09:18getting my anger out there,
00:09:20you know,
00:09:20instead of going out there
00:09:21and smoking or fighting,
00:09:22you know.
00:09:23I go to my own little world
00:09:25and I just express myself
00:09:26through breaking.
00:09:27I dance, you know,
00:09:28and get creative.
00:09:29I'm just spinning
00:09:29and I feel like I'm flying.
00:09:31I'm flying in the air, man,
00:09:36you know,
00:09:36and just,
00:09:37I'm free.
00:09:46The origins of graffiti
00:09:47go way past hip-hop.
00:09:49That goes back to World War II
00:09:50when, I mean,
00:09:52Soldiers was writing,
00:09:53Kilroy was here
00:09:54and stuff on the balls
00:09:55and, you know,
00:09:56people would just make statements.
00:09:58Here,
00:09:59it was just about
00:10:00getting up.
00:10:01You wanted to write your name
00:10:02in as many places
00:10:03and many people could see it
00:10:05so you'd be known.
00:10:07Graffiti is one of the most
00:10:09beautiful art forms
00:10:11in the world.
00:10:12You know,
00:10:12I'd be looking at some of the stuff
00:10:13Picasso be doing
00:10:14and I'm like,
00:10:16well,
00:10:17Picasso ought to have to be there
00:10:18to understand
00:10:19what you're doing,
00:10:20you know,
00:10:20but then Brothers Graffiti,
00:10:22they're giving you firsthand
00:10:24what they're seeing
00:10:25every day in the hood.
00:10:26You know,
00:10:27they're bringing the news to you.
00:10:28Brothers shooting dice,
00:10:29they have dice there,
00:10:30they have the trains coming by
00:10:32all in one tag.
00:10:34Graffiti art means
00:10:35getting out
00:10:36when a lot of people
00:10:37can't get out.
00:10:38You know,
00:10:39it's like expressing
00:10:39beauty, color,
00:10:41excitement,
00:10:43drama.
00:10:44It's everything like music.
00:10:46I just love the blend
00:10:48of the music.
00:10:49I remember,
00:10:50I was grooving to this sound
00:10:51and it was Jackson 5
00:10:53and this DJ
00:10:54was actually
00:10:54keeping this one part
00:10:56in the record
00:10:57on and on and on
00:10:58and then the guy
00:10:59was on the microphone
00:11:00just doing that same stuff
00:11:02Muhammad Ali did.
00:11:03Let me see your hands
00:11:04flow like this.
00:11:05Let me see your hands
00:11:06flow like this.
00:11:07The rapper would say,
00:11:09you know what?
00:11:09He's good,
00:11:10but by the way,
00:11:12I'm kind of fly too
00:11:13and I'm all this
00:11:14and I'm all that.
00:11:15The girls would scream.
00:11:17The next MC said,
00:11:18I have to outdo this person
00:11:20and the only way
00:11:20to outdo somebody
00:11:21usually is by boasting
00:11:22or outboasting them
00:11:23or trying to insult them
00:11:26in a cool way
00:11:26and that's where
00:11:27the battle started.
00:11:28So bring the drama
00:11:30when you're coming
00:11:30best believe I'm down
00:11:31the golden child
00:11:32just to ride
00:11:33straight out the chat town.

00:11:56cause that's how you start
00:11:57you know

00:15:08pain
00:15:09got that ghetto blood
00:15:10in my vein
00:15:10spread it through my kin
00:15:12confess my sins
00:15:13and blame
00:15:13society for unawareness
00:15:15fuck the president
00:15:16he don't represent
00:15:17the ghetto resident
00:15:18recognize
00:15:18fool within the black
00:15:20cold as a Jew
00:15:21the revolution
00:15:22been in effect
00:15:22pull up your shoes
00:15:23utilize your third eye
00:15:25it be him or I
00:15:26now choose who gotta die
00:15:28him every time
00:15:29the Kallion stallion
00:15:30now hold on
00:15:31like diamond stud
00:15:32medallias
00:15:33and so on
00:15:33between 75 and 85
00:15:39you had to have juice
00:15:40you had to have
00:15:41political power
00:15:42in the culture
00:15:44of hip-hop
00:15:45to grab the mic
00:15:46to step out
00:15:48onto the cardboard
00:15:49and break dance
00:15:50or even do
00:15:51a piece
00:15:53you had to be
00:15:54known
00:15:55in the community
00:15:56a really
00:16:02important part
00:16:04of hip-hop
00:16:05I say
00:16:06is Mike and Dave
00:16:07from you know
00:16:09they used to be
00:16:09with the Crash Crew
00:16:10and Africa Band
00:16:11he brought
00:16:13like unity
00:16:14to the people
00:16:15from the Bronx
00:16:16Manhattan
00:16:16brought them together
00:16:17you know
00:16:18bringing them
00:16:19into like
00:16:19they used to have
00:16:20like Zulu Nation
00:16:21meetings
00:16:23like on Thursdays
00:16:24and Wednesdays
00:16:25you know
00:16:25God bless the dead
00:16:26Malibu
00:16:27God bless the dead
00:16:28BO
00:16:29and stuff like that
00:16:30this is like
00:16:31one of the first
00:16:32flyers I ever
00:16:33collected
00:16:33Cool Herc
00:16:34Wizkid
00:16:35Disco Prince
00:16:36Whippin' Whippin'
00:16:37Donorock
00:16:38then you got
00:16:39the classic battle
00:16:41of all time
00:16:42is
00:16:43Cold Quest
00:16:43vs. Fantastic Five
00:16:45now
00:16:46here's an actual
00:16:47flyer
00:16:48of
00:16:49the rooftop
00:16:50that was a club
00:16:52uptown
00:16:53where everybody go
00:16:55from the hustlers
00:16:56to the
00:16:56strugglers
00:16:58now
00:16:58this is when
00:17:00I started to evolve
00:17:01as a good beatbox
00:17:02you know what I'm saying
00:17:03you have raw bass
00:17:05before he came out
00:17:06on a record
00:17:06Easy Rock
00:17:08Dow C
00:17:08and look at me
00:17:09see me now
00:17:10in the beginning
00:17:13Run DMC
00:17:14yeah
00:17:14Run DMC
00:17:15we was trying to be
00:17:16the
00:17:16we were
00:17:17Run DMC
00:17:17all over the place
00:17:19actually they were calling us
00:17:19the female Run DMC
00:17:21at one time
00:17:21so we were like
00:17:22oh my god
00:17:22he's saying
00:17:23we
00:17:23female Run DMC
00:17:24so
00:17:25and we also
00:17:25lived in Queens
00:17:26yeah
00:17:27and so
00:17:28we used to go back and forth
00:17:30like that style
00:17:30like Run DMC
00:17:31we looked up to them
00:17:33a lot
00:17:33and back at that time
00:17:34in the pioneering days
00:17:35it wasn't about money
00:17:37nobody came out
00:17:38to get paid
00:17:39we used to spend more money
00:17:40than we made
00:17:41to come out and play
00:17:42it was a lot of hard work
00:17:43you know
00:17:43to bring all them speakers
00:17:45and all that equipment out
00:17:46but we just did it
00:17:47for the love of hip hop
00:17:48just to play music
00:17:49music
00:17:49music
00:17:50music
00:17:51music
00:17:52music
00:17:53music
00:17:54back in the days
00:18:00the party
00:18:01was everything
00:18:01and you would go
00:18:02from block to block
00:18:03to block
00:18:04battling
00:18:04each DJ
00:18:05or each MC
00:18:06and that's how you
00:18:07would gain your reputation
00:18:08oh yes
00:18:11you can catch
00:18:12an occasional block party
00:18:13here and there
00:18:14sometimes you do see it
00:18:15like the old days
00:18:16rap is the music of hip hop
00:18:27or the vocal delivery of hip hop
00:18:30but hip hop is a full blown culture
00:18:32rap was more party orientated back then
00:18:36we talked about partying
00:18:37and having a good time
00:18:39I'm picking niggas in the bucket
00:18:40fuck it
00:18:41you wanna get down
00:18:42if you can suck it
00:18:43twist the bliss
00:18:44it's a vocal bliss
00:18:45with the blind shit
00:18:46oh shit
00:18:46coming from North New Jersey
00:18:47from this
00:18:48jump the ball
00:18:49get down break the ball
00:18:51bitch you come to me
00:18:52you're best to be jumping
00:18:53that's wrong
00:18:53what I see hip hop
00:19:02on the west coast
00:19:03started like 1982
00:19:05and so called gangsta rap
00:19:07start at the same time
00:19:09because those were the first records
00:19:10that really made it
00:19:12out here
00:19:13you know
00:19:13Ice-T and Skoolie-D actually
00:19:15Skoolie-D had the record
00:19:17PSK out at the time
00:19:19and Ice-T had 6 in the morning
00:19:20and these were the only records
00:19:22we were playing
00:19:22because you know
00:19:23they were saying things
00:19:26that we could relate to
00:19:27you know
00:19:27early west coast rap
00:19:28I would rap about
00:19:30trying to party
00:19:31I did records like
00:19:32Dog in the Wax
00:19:33you don't quit
00:19:34but my boys were like
00:19:35saying Ice man
00:19:36why you rapping about parties
00:19:37man
00:19:38y'all
00:19:38we don't go to parties
00:19:39we rob parties
00:19:40you know what I'm saying
00:19:41so I'm like
00:19:41yeah that is true
00:19:44because while they were having
00:19:44a hip hop scene
00:19:45in New York
00:19:46we were having a gang scene
00:19:48due to the fact
00:19:49they called themselves a gang
00:19:51people called this
00:19:51gangsta rap
00:19:52violence is part of that lifestyle
00:19:54so you have to rap
00:19:55about it
00:19:57no this one got stuck
00:19:59no shit
00:20:00yeah they got stuck
00:20:01way up here
00:20:02if a kid is in a gang
00:20:04then he raps
00:20:05from the perspective
00:20:06of a gang banger
00:20:08but what if the kid
00:20:09sells drugs
00:20:10he's rapping from the
00:20:11perspective of a drug dealer
00:20:12what if the guy's a pimp
00:20:13he'll rap in the perspective
00:20:15of a pimp
00:20:16when you rap
00:20:18basically you rap
00:20:19to another rapper
00:20:20what a gangsta rapper
00:20:21says is
00:20:22you listener
00:20:24I will shoot you
00:20:26in your motherfucking face
00:20:27he forgets about
00:20:32the rules
00:20:33he forgets about
00:20:34the theory
00:20:35what's right and wrong
00:20:36message versus
00:20:37non-message
00:20:38it is reality
00:20:40rap in its
00:20:41truest form
00:20:41because you
00:20:42you take out
00:20:43all the barricades
00:20:44it's very direct
00:20:46taking
00:20:47rap
00:20:48to its
00:20:49most real
00:20:49form
00:20:50and just
00:20:51rapping it
00:20:51just not
00:20:52giving a
00:20:53fuck
00:20:54then I talk about
00:21:01money
00:21:01dope
00:21:02hoes
00:21:02cars
00:21:04guns
00:21:04what else
00:21:05that's reality
00:21:07it's violence
00:21:08everywhere
00:21:08it's a murder
00:21:09committed
00:21:10every city
00:21:10state
00:21:11country
00:21:11continent
00:21:12everywhere
00:21:13I just talk about
00:21:14what the motherfuckers
00:21:15is really doing
00:21:16California streets
00:21:17is full of all
00:21:18that shit
00:21:18I just named
00:21:19can't help
00:21:20but to talk about it
00:21:21as far as
00:21:33gangster rap is concerned
00:21:34they talk about
00:21:35what they know
00:21:35you know what I mean
00:21:36just as we can't
00:21:37hold it against
00:21:37like people from
00:21:39like New York
00:21:39they have their
00:21:40crews
00:21:41you know what I'm
00:21:41saying
00:21:41and it's like
00:21:42the same thing
00:21:43it's a family based
00:21:44thing
00:21:44you know what I'm
00:21:45saying
00:21:45it's misunderstood
00:21:46I'm not thugging
00:21:48for me
00:21:48I'm thugging
00:21:49for my family
00:21:49I pay all the
00:21:51bills
00:21:51you know what I'm
00:21:52saying
00:21:52I feed my whole
00:21:53family
00:21:53wrong or right
00:21:55I do
00:21:56and I can't
00:21:57stop
00:21:57you know what I'm
00:21:58saying
00:21:58if thugging is
00:21:59going to make me
00:21:59a million bucks
00:22:00because it just
00:22:01got me platinum
00:22:02and that's what
00:22:02I got to do
00:22:03as far as a music
00:22:04all it was
00:22:06is guys from
00:22:07the west coast
00:22:07using different
00:22:09elements of music
00:22:11that guys from
00:22:11the northeast
00:22:12wouldn't touch
00:22:13like funk
00:22:13west coast
00:22:14sound to me
00:22:15was like
00:22:15like a mood
00:22:16keyboard
00:22:16a lot more
00:22:17funk type
00:22:17stuff
00:22:18with a lot
00:22:18of hand claps
00:22:19for snares
00:22:19you know
00:22:19a lot of
00:22:20whiny
00:22:21synthesizer
00:22:21type things
00:22:22and because of
00:22:23the tempos
00:22:24and the mixture
00:22:25of the music
00:22:26I think that music
00:22:27was more relevant
00:22:27to more black
00:22:28people inside
00:22:29the United States
00:22:30we put in the dam
00:22:32from block
00:22:33to block
00:22:34to scandalous
00:22:34town
00:22:35from crooked
00:22:36cops
00:22:36to dope
00:22:37shops
00:22:37all around
00:22:38shit
00:22:39hot
00:22:39hose
00:22:39six
00:22:40four
00:22:40berries
00:22:41hoods
00:22:42tight
00:22:42like
00:22:42what
00:22:43nuts
00:22:43one like
00:22:43the military
00:22:44attitude
00:22:46and the fact
00:22:49and the fact that
00:22:49you could do this
00:22:50and sooner or later
00:22:50these records
00:22:51started selling
00:22:51just saying
00:22:52whatever we wanted
00:22:53to say
00:22:54it was great
00:22:55it was like
00:22:56god came and
00:22:57said
00:22:57here's something
00:22:58that you can do
00:22:59now when we started
00:23:10and when we signed
00:23:11our first contract
00:23:11in 1982
00:23:12you can count
00:23:14how many rap groups
00:23:15had contracts
00:23:17signed contracts
00:23:18with companies
00:23:19and major record
00:23:20companies
00:23:20was not taking chances
00:23:21with rap music
00:23:22it was the small
00:23:23independent companies
00:23:24that would give rappers
00:23:25a chance
00:23:26after 1985
00:23:27hip hop and rap
00:23:29made a split
00:23:30graffiti art
00:23:31and breakdancing
00:23:32no longer became
00:23:33viable means
00:23:35of expressing
00:23:37this piece of the culture
00:23:38rap became
00:23:40the viable means
00:23:41of expressing
00:23:41this piece of the culture
00:23:42and it was only because
00:23:44corporate America
00:23:46NASA
00:23:47deemed it important
00:23:49oh we can make some money
00:23:50pressing up these records
00:23:51so
00:23:52let's go
00:23:53rap is big business now
00:23:56now record companies
00:23:57aren't even concerned
00:23:58about the vinyl
00:23:58and stuff like that
00:24:00they talking about
00:24:01CD sales and everything
00:24:03but if it wasn't for vinyl
00:24:05there wouldn't be
00:24:05any hip hop music
00:24:06these record labels
00:24:08man just shysty
00:24:09they don't care
00:24:10about the artist
00:24:11you know what I'm saying
00:24:11they let the artist
00:24:13do what he want to do
00:24:14they want yeah
00:24:15act silly
00:24:16and you know
00:24:16yeah do it for me
00:24:18you know
00:24:18they get a certain percentage
00:24:20we don't man
00:24:20we get kibbles
00:24:21we don't
00:24:22you know what I'm saying
00:24:23that's played out
00:24:25the first record company
00:24:28they robbed me blind
00:24:29the record company
00:24:29I didn't know no better
00:24:31I'm 17 years old
00:24:32you know what I'm saying
00:24:33I'm making a record
00:24:34I'm coming from
00:24:3520 hours a week allowance
00:24:37to all of a sudden
00:24:38somebody giving me
00:24:38a thousand dollars
00:24:39and I'm like
00:24:39you know what I'm saying
00:24:40this is crazy
00:24:40you know what I'm saying
00:24:41but that's all I got
00:24:42the record companies
00:24:43are basically like
00:24:44a merchant bank
00:24:45you know
00:24:46they loan you money
00:24:47and they want their money
00:24:48back with fat interest
00:24:49and the conditions
00:24:51of your contract
00:24:52are basically like
00:24:53the conditions
00:24:54of your loan
00:24:55it's like
00:24:56I love the fans
00:24:57yo
00:24:57and I love making music
00:24:58but the people
00:24:59in the middle
00:25:00you know
00:25:01it's like the middle men
00:25:03they just
00:25:03ugh
00:25:04everyone welcomes you
00:25:05into Jerusalem
00:25:06and later they scream
00:25:08crucify him
00:25:09so people are always
00:25:10hypocritical
00:25:11especially when you
00:25:12are inside of an industry
00:25:14called the record industry
00:25:16you know
00:25:17you have to always
00:25:18stay conscious
00:25:19and in reality
00:25:20you can't never
00:25:21believe your own hype
00:25:22because those people
00:25:23will build you up
00:25:24to Superman
00:25:24only to find out
00:25:26that you
00:25:26garbage man
00:25:29the record business
00:25:33is exactly what it is
00:25:36record business
00:25:37and you have to
00:25:39take care of both
00:25:40I got into it
00:25:41just wanting
00:25:43to make music
00:25:44you know what I'm saying
00:25:44I didn't really give a damn
00:25:46about the business
00:25:47part of it
00:25:47I was trusting people
00:25:49trusting that they
00:25:50would handle my business
00:25:51the way it was supposed
00:25:52to be handled
00:25:53and you get fucked
00:25:54like that
00:25:55so you know
00:25:55you got to be on top
00:25:56of your own business
00:25:57you know
00:25:58don't trust no managers
00:25:59no record company
00:26:00execs
00:26:00nothing like that
00:26:01know it
00:26:01but basically
00:26:02every fucking
00:26:03young little
00:26:04motherfucker can rap
00:26:05so we
00:26:05all they want to see
00:26:07is well
00:26:07where's your two hit singles
00:26:09and they're gonna
00:26:10put that out
00:26:10and you might go
00:26:11double platinum
00:26:12and then next time
00:26:13they're gonna make
00:26:14you know
00:26:15four million off of you
00:26:16you're gonna be broke
00:26:17and then you're gonna
00:26:17come out with your next album
00:26:18and if it flopped
00:26:19they're gonna get rid of you
00:26:20and find the next motherfucker
00:26:21well where's your next
00:26:22where's your two hit singles
00:26:23it's music
00:26:24and it's business
00:26:25and you know what I'm saying
00:26:26I have to find a fine line
00:26:27in between all of it
00:26:28it's cool
00:26:29I just make sure
00:26:30I take care of my business
00:26:31and I accept
00:26:31all the pros and cons
00:26:33of my record label
00:26:34but I try to enjoy my art
00:26:36and do the best I can
00:26:37in this business
00:26:3890%
00:26:39of artists
00:26:40don't know
00:26:41when they're supposed
00:26:43they're supposed to get paid
00:26:44how they're supposed to get paid
00:26:45or how much they're supposed
00:26:47to get paid
00:26:48you know
00:26:48you can ask
00:26:49a new artist
00:26:50how much is a point worth
00:26:52or what a point is
00:26:53and they can't answer the question
00:26:55they don't know
00:26:55but
00:26:56they can tell you
00:26:58how much a Mercedes costs
00:26:59and you know
00:27:01the business wanna roll with it
00:27:02so they fork money into it
00:27:04or simply just be out of the game
00:27:05so it's a give and take
00:27:07and you just gotta know
00:27:08you know
00:27:08what's actually going on
00:27:10and the sacrifices
00:27:10you actually make
00:27:11spiritually, mentally
00:27:12and emotionally
00:27:13when you're messing with the music
00:27:14I'm one of the few rappers
00:27:16you know
00:27:17I got
00:27:17I've had six consecutive gold records
00:27:20and never had a record

00:31:17and having fun with it
00:31:18you know

00:31:22you know
00:31:23it ain't about that
00:31:24I think it's very important
00:31:27for me to not lose sight
00:31:28of how I started
00:31:29and keep my background
00:31:30as a DJ
00:31:31and throwing parties
00:31:33it's always had a lot
00:31:35to do with my success
00:31:35it's how I first initially
00:31:37got in the business
00:31:38it's how I met a lot
00:31:39of people
00:31:39and the parties
00:31:42are kind of an intricate
00:31:43part of the business
00:31:44we had a party
00:31:47for delinquent habits
00:31:48because we wanted
00:31:49people to hear
00:31:50their album
00:31:51that came to me
00:31:52from Send Dog
00:31:53of Cypress Hill
00:31:53people that love music
00:31:56artists and people
00:31:57that are really into it

00:32:02or what coast
00:32:03you're from
00:32:04or whatever
00:32:05it's important
00:32:27to get the press out
00:32:28and get them involved
00:32:29and that's how
00:32:31you get the buzz going

00:32:56to rub shoulders
00:32:57with industry heavyweights
00:32:58perform and attend lectures
00:33:00although the convention
00:33:01promoters are calling
00:33:02this event a family affair
00:33:04security has been elevated
00:33:05but local sheriffs
00:33:07do not foresee any problems
00:33:08you know Snoop Dogg
00:33:10is going to be out here

00:33:20there's people like
00:33:21Jack the Rapper himself
00:33:22who takes time out
00:33:22and spend money
00:33:23to bring us all up in there
00:33:24and they got different
00:33:26energies coming from
00:33:26all over the world
00:33:27you know what I'm saying

00:33:28their music
00:33:29and we kicking it
00:33:30it's showtime
00:33:31well Jack the Rapper
00:33:32was important
00:33:33when I was coming out
00:33:33because there was a lot
00:33:34of people who wanted
00:33:35to be exposed to the industry
00:33:36and this you know
00:33:37this was an avenue
00:33:38where they can network
00:33:39and a lot of stars
00:33:41were found there
00:33:41and a lot of things
00:33:42came out good
00:33:43you go down there
00:33:43you learn
00:33:44you know they have panels
00:33:45they have good shows
00:33:46it's just a great event
00:33:47to be at
00:33:48it hurts me to see
00:33:50young guys
00:33:51that get a record deal
00:33:52and the first thing
00:33:52they go out
00:33:52and buy is a Mercedes

00:33:55buy some joy
00:33:56around their neck
00:33:57and they live in an apartment
00:33:58I mean when I first started
00:34:00in this business
00:34:00I had an ulcer after a year
00:34:01because I couldn't understand
00:34:03why my clients
00:34:04were making millions of dollars
00:34:05and I had more money
00:34:06in my bank account
00:34:07than they had in theirs
00:34:08the hype's got me
00:34:10I knock them out
00:34:10the box and out socks
00:34:12because when I come around

00:34:30with this ball
00:34:30kick the flow

00:40:50the evolution of women
00:41:12rappers
00:41:13definitely started
00:41:15in the Bronx
00:41:15first there was
00:41:16a group called
00:41:17the funky four
00:41:17plus one more
00:41:18and that one more
00:41:19was a female
00:41:21by the name of
00:41:21Shawrock
00:41:22Shawrock
00:41:23I was in love
00:41:23with this girl
00:41:24I thought she was the best
00:41:25I mean she had a real
00:41:26good clean voice
00:41:27powerful strong
00:41:29but still sexy
00:41:30and ladylike
00:41:31she had good rhythm
00:41:32and then
00:41:33there was the sequence girls
00:41:34who came along
00:41:35with the Sugar Hill Gang
00:41:36records
00:41:37and they were actually
00:41:38the first female group
00:41:40on wax
00:41:41and of course
00:41:42she had Salt and Pepper
00:41:43who came along
00:41:44and came out
00:41:44with the first
00:41:45platinum hit
00:41:46for a female group
00:41:47we've been able
00:41:48to endure
00:41:49you know
00:41:50a lot of hard times
00:41:51because we do care
00:41:52and care about each other
00:41:54but um
00:41:55she makes it fun
00:41:56this girl is crazy
00:41:58we've always
00:42:00found it
00:42:01our duty
00:42:03as female
00:42:04artists
00:42:05to
00:42:05tell the other side
00:42:08of that story
00:42:09you know
00:42:09we're about
00:42:10telling the ladies
00:42:11to respect yourself
00:42:13love yourself
00:42:14and just
00:42:14to tell the females
00:42:15not to give them
00:42:16so much to talk about
00:42:17some of the young ladies
00:42:18have to become
00:42:19themselves
00:42:21have to learn
00:42:22how to
00:42:22you know
00:42:23stop being
00:42:24what a man
00:42:24wants them to be
00:42:25and you know
00:42:26start realizing
00:42:27who they are
00:42:27and what they are
00:42:28you know what I'm saying
00:42:29if they want to wear
00:42:30the short skirt
00:42:30if they want to wear
00:42:31the baggy jeans
00:42:32do whatever it is
00:42:32that they want to do
00:42:33when guys say like
00:42:35bitch or hoe
00:42:36it don't bother me
00:42:36because
00:42:37for the simple fact
00:42:38one
00:42:38they're not talking
00:42:39about me
00:42:39and where I'm from
00:42:40the west side of Chicago
00:42:42we can see our homegirls
00:42:43and be like
00:42:43what's up bitch
00:42:44shut the fuck up
00:42:45you're stupid
00:42:46you know what I mean
00:42:46it's all in fun
00:42:47it really depends
00:42:48on how you say the shit
00:42:49and you know
00:42:49when somebody's saying it wrong
00:42:50or you know
00:42:51when they're trying
00:42:51to be derogatory
00:42:52about the shit
00:42:53and some autographed pitches
00:42:55and I hope for you bitches
00:42:57and if you a bitch
00:42:59it's just like nigga
00:43:00the same thing
00:43:01you know what I mean
00:43:02people just take it differently
00:43:03that shit turns me off
00:43:05you a lady
00:43:06I think you need to act like a lady
00:43:08you know what I'm saying
00:43:08it's a way that you can act like a lady
00:43:10and still have skills rapping
00:43:12you know what I'm saying
00:43:12but when you start that old
00:43:15wanna be like a nigga
00:43:16and hats
00:43:17and baggy jeans
00:43:18and boots
00:43:18it's just a turn off to me
00:43:20watch
00:43:21that's their life
00:43:22this is mine
00:43:23they don't like me to say
00:43:24bitch, fuck, nigga, and hoe
00:43:26that's me
00:43:26this is how I kick it
00:43:28this is how I live
00:43:29I'm just trying to be straight
00:43:30real with everybody
00:43:31I ain't trying to come
00:43:32sugarcoat it or nothing like that
00:43:33I'm just trying to put it down
00:43:34the best way I know how
00:43:36I'm not really big on that
00:43:38you know
00:43:39because I happen to think
00:43:40that if we hold the women
00:43:42in high respect
00:43:42then the women
00:43:43who have the children
00:43:44of these men
00:43:45who are calling the women
00:43:46bitches and hoes
00:43:47will treat their children
00:43:48you know what I'm saying
00:43:49with more love
00:43:50and will raise up
00:43:51stronger individuals
00:43:52my experience is
00:43:53it's just been
00:43:53it has been hard to find
00:43:55a female to work with
00:43:57that I'm really digging
00:43:59you know
00:43:59and out here on the west coast
00:44:01there's not that many females
00:44:02that get in
00:44:03get into rap
00:44:04you know what I'm saying
00:44:04they're on nine to fives
00:44:06you know
00:44:07you know Rome wasn't built

00:44:52can grab the nation
00:44:54by the neck
00:44:55and make people realize
00:44:57what's going on
00:44:58it's a voice for the
00:45:00oppressed people that
00:45:01in many other ways
00:45:02just don't have a voice
00:45:03we didn't know nothing
00:45:04about no west coast
00:45:05we didn't know nothing
00:45:06about Philly
00:45:07we didn't know nothing
00:45:07about Jersey
00:45:08until the rap came
00:45:09and then we just started
00:45:10communicating
00:45:10and it's just been one
00:45:11it's the nigga news
00:45:12it's shit that
00:45:13we speak
00:45:14I can tell people in New York
00:45:15what I'm going through
00:45:16from my experiences
00:45:17as a Los Angeles
00:45:18young black man
00:45:19and they can speak
00:45:20from a New York
00:45:21young black man
00:45:22what they're going through
00:45:23you know you have guys
00:45:24you know who are rappers
00:45:26who are from the ghetto
00:45:27and the stuff that they say
00:45:29is stuff that they live
00:45:31every day
00:45:32these are their lyrics
00:45:33after growing up here
00:45:42and seeing my man
00:45:44that lived upstairs
00:45:45getting killed
00:45:45and then my brother shot
00:45:46like you know what I'm saying
00:45:48that showed me
00:45:49what type of world
00:45:51this shit is
00:45:52you know what I'm saying
00:45:53the most of the time
00:45:56I feared about living here
00:45:57when I was young
00:45:58when I couldn't defend myself
00:46:00from shit was going on
00:46:02because it was older niggas
00:46:03doing shit
00:46:04it was a big world
00:46:06and I was young
00:46:07and all I had was my mom
00:46:08and my brother
00:46:10you know what I'm saying
00:46:10my younger brother
00:46:11you know what I'm saying
00:46:12so all I did was
00:46:13just handle myself
00:46:14to get into a position
00:46:15where I could say
00:46:16I'm going to hold my ground
00:46:18I'm old enough
00:46:18to control my destiny
00:46:20and not to be bullshitted
00:46:22by no bullshit niggas
00:46:23no more
00:46:24or nothing
00:46:25I'd be thinking about
00:46:27going back to school
00:46:28because
00:46:29I mean my knowledge
00:46:30is limited right now
00:46:31there's a lot of things
00:46:32that I don't know about
00:46:33that I could take advantage of
00:46:35as soon as I learn about it
00:46:37I'm not a big drug dealer
00:46:42with 25 years on my head
00:46:44I sing rap records
00:46:46and I can make my brand
00:46:48I'm not a doctor
00:46:51or a lawyer
00:46:51but I'm 21
00:46:53with a start
00:46:54you know as far as messages go
00:47:03you know what I'm trying to get across
00:47:05I'm trying to get across
00:47:06like several different things
00:47:08you know what I'm saying
00:47:09like for instance
00:47:10there's one side of me
00:47:12that's totally for the preservation
00:47:14of black youth
00:47:15you know what I'm saying
00:47:16because we're dying
00:47:17at a rapid rate
00:47:19the numbers of dying youth
00:47:22is increasing like daily
00:47:23in our neighborhood
00:47:24I can't stand
00:47:26the ghetto
00:47:27a lot of rappers
00:47:29you know they run around
00:47:30yeah I'm ghetto
00:47:31you know what I'm saying
00:47:32I live in the ghetto
00:47:33the ghetto don't live in me
00:47:34this is a ill situation
00:47:35we have been put here
00:47:37for a cause
00:47:38we have been put here
00:47:40to die
00:47:40that's genocide man
00:47:42and that's the bottom line
00:47:43if I had the chance to live
00:47:44with a stream flowing through
00:47:46my backyard
00:47:46meadows in my backyard
00:47:48you think I wouldn't
00:47:50we're not here
00:47:51just because we want to be hip and fly
00:47:52it wasn't our choice
00:47:54to come to the ghetto
00:47:54you know so as far as
00:47:56staying true to the hood
00:47:56I'm not really staying true to the hood
00:47:58I'm staying true to the people
00:47:59that are in the hood
00:48:00I don't want my kids to grow up
00:48:09in the environment
00:48:10I grew up in
00:48:11so I moved out
00:48:12you know
00:48:13I send my kids to the good schools
00:48:15away from
00:48:17the fucked up shit
00:48:18because
00:48:19I didn't have that opportunity
00:48:22when I was a youth
00:48:23I didn't have no choice
00:48:24I had nowhere else to go
00:48:26I had to stay there
00:48:27but I know what I did
00:48:28to get here
00:48:29and all the nights
00:48:30I spent in the studio
00:48:32rapping and writing
00:48:33and it was all me
00:48:34and you try to help
00:48:36some of your homies out
00:48:37I hook niggas up
00:48:38you know
00:48:39if you know how to rap
00:48:40I try to get you a deal
00:48:41I work with you in the studio
00:48:42but it's not a form of just going
00:48:45okay I got paper
00:48:46here go a thousand
00:48:47here go two thousand
00:48:48here go five

00:49:08I love Compton to the fullest
00:49:09but with me
00:49:11being a father
00:49:12a businessman
00:49:13me staying in Compton
00:49:15would mean me
00:49:16having to deal
00:49:17with the same situations
00:49:18as I dealt with
00:49:20as a teenager
00:49:21I moved out
00:49:22to the community
00:49:23where I could walk
00:49:24out my front door
00:49:25and wouldn't have to see
00:49:26gang writing
00:49:27and shit like that
00:49:28because I lived in that shit
00:49:30all my life
00:49:31and I figure

00:49:33you might as well
00:49:35to better yourself
00:49:36and to better your future family
00:49:37you can't have this
00:49:40out of control

00:49:43that you grew up in
00:49:44it's impossible
00:49:45you're going to get licked
00:49:47sooner or later

00:50:00you know
00:50:01there's always going to be
00:50:02people that don't like me
00:50:04because they think
00:50:05I'm doing too much
00:50:06or they think
00:50:07I'm showing off

00:50:17and all that
00:50:17I really shine it on
00:50:18but at the same time
00:50:19I still talk to them
00:50:20and let them know
00:50:21I still got a lot of love

00:52:14we was robbing
00:52:15and shit like that
00:52:16you know what I'm saying
00:52:17so the community
00:52:18wasn't really by our side
00:52:20like
00:52:20there wasn't no shit
00:52:22where they was liking us

00:52:24in the area
00:52:24we had to eat
00:52:27my daughter had to eat
00:52:28so we was doing
00:52:28what we had to do
00:52:29regardless
00:52:30no matter what
00:52:30the community
00:52:31felt about it
00:52:33and after I left
00:52:34the drugs alone
00:52:35and started doing
00:52:36the music shit
00:52:36and all of a sudden
00:52:37the community is like
00:52:38yeah well he's doing good
00:52:40now and

00:53:31and lived it quick
00:53:32you know what I'm saying
00:53:32but you know
00:53:33then you know
00:53:35it's like when I got
00:53:36the knowledge of myself

00:53:37I was able to adapt
00:53:38and calm things down
00:53:39you know what I'm saying
00:53:40and then when I had
00:53:41my first seed

00:54:40you know
00:54:41the environment much quicker
00:54:42and the commentary
00:54:43kind of went to the
00:54:44temple of the effects
00:54:46of the drugs
00:54:46and political rap
00:54:47and conscious rap
00:54:48tried to make people
00:54:49look at what they was
00:54:50doing
00:54:50and if they was
00:54:51doing things
00:54:52in a negative way
00:54:52try to look at it
00:54:53in the unhip way
00:54:54try to make it
00:54:55unhip unfashionable
00:54:56all of a sudden
00:54:57all these anti-drug
00:54:59records started
00:54:59coming out
00:55:00out of the hip-hop scene

00:56:08of the hood
00:56:09that people don't really
00:56:10talk about
00:56:10because we always
00:56:11hearing about the negative

00:56:28it can get you
00:56:28knocked and locked up
00:56:30or lay the fuck out
00:56:31upon a stretcher
00:56:32this world is full of thugs

00:56:35I kill rappers on the records
00:56:37it's my job to
00:56:38separate the real
00:56:39from the fake
00:56:39so I reveal the truth
00:56:41to break it down
00:56:42on the rocks

00:58:22the things I did got
00:58:23I was real happy for
00:58:25the rest of the world
00:58:26is crazy
00:58:27I know that I can come home
00:58:28and everything is cool
00:58:29and that's what makes
00:58:30you want to take a chance
00:58:31there are a lot of people
00:58:32who don't have that
00:58:33that type of support
00:58:34and I feel sorry
00:58:35you know what I'm saying
00:58:36that's one part of my strength
00:58:38is the fact that
00:58:39no matter what happens
00:58:40if this industry
00:58:41falls in love with me
00:58:42or decides that they
00:58:43no longer love me
00:58:44and they want to get rid of me
00:58:45you know
00:58:46those people will always
00:58:47be in my corner
00:58:48when you talk about my mom
00:58:52it's beyond words
00:58:53she just did everything
00:58:57I love her for that man
00:58:59he was on the St. B's
00:59:01basketball team
00:59:02this is breakdancing
00:59:05this is how he started
00:59:07I think that was
00:59:08just before rapping
00:59:10he was actually in high school
00:59:12on this one
00:59:13he was about 17 years old
00:59:15I go on some video shoots
00:59:18with him
00:59:19I was very proud of this one
00:59:21because his sister was in it also
00:59:23that's his sister
00:59:24and that's Spice One
00:59:26every time we go somewhere
00:59:29we at a concert
00:59:30and she want to come
00:59:32I have like 12 or 13
00:59:33of my homeboys
00:59:34surrounding her
00:59:35with straps
00:59:36nigga don't let nobody
00:59:37touch my mama
00:59:39oh I worry about his safety
00:59:41a lot
00:59:42a lot of things
00:59:43that's happened to him
00:59:44he's been shot at
00:59:45harassed
00:59:47when he was little
00:59:49we thought he was
00:59:50going to be a preacher
00:59:51because he carried a bible
00:59:53around all the time
00:59:54had his name on it
00:59:55well he is a preacher
00:59:57only he does it
00:59:58through his rap
00:59:59he's been promising me
01:00:00a house since he was
01:00:01a little boy
01:00:02and I had no idea
01:00:04how he was going to buy it
01:00:06but now I know
01:00:07all of our heroes
01:00:11were killed off
01:00:12Martin Luther King
01:00:12Malcolm X
01:00:13JFK
01:00:15so I grew up
01:00:17having heroes
01:00:18that were the local
01:00:19drug dealer
01:00:20pimps
01:00:21the pushers
01:00:21the guys
01:00:23with the doves
01:00:24the guys
01:00:24who were riding around
01:00:25in the sevilles
01:00:26and the cadillacs
01:00:27you know
01:00:27guys who were flashing
01:00:28the hundred dollar bills
01:00:29the number runners
01:00:30the whole thing
01:00:31about hip hop
01:00:32was to wear the gold chain
01:00:33and you know
01:00:35they're dressed like
01:00:35the street hustler
01:00:36a nigga to talk about
01:00:38he got on a Rolex watch
01:00:39and all this shit
01:00:40now without finishing school
01:00:42going to college
01:00:43or just starting a business
01:00:45or something
01:00:45you want to wonder
01:00:46how you get that Rolex watch
01:00:48and that's the part of it
01:00:50that's the mystique
01:00:51that leads you
01:00:52to want to be
01:00:53where he's at
01:00:53I rap
01:00:54I try to get money here
01:00:56you know what I'm saying
01:00:57but as far as
01:00:58everybody else
01:00:59in the community
01:00:59my age
01:01:00they probably got to
01:01:01get a job at McDonald's
01:01:02and then
01:01:02they mind is just like mine
01:01:04where they really working
01:01:04at McDonald's
01:01:05saying
01:01:05damn I want better than this
01:01:07but you can ask
01:01:0890% of the people
01:01:09that's involved
01:01:09in hip hop music
01:01:10what they would be doing
01:01:11if hip hop didn't exist
01:01:13and I can guarantee you
01:01:15it won't be positive
01:01:16sometimes the reaching
01:01:18and the showing off
01:01:19for the Lexuses
01:01:20and the big willyism
01:01:22that's cool for some
01:01:23but you know
01:01:25it's a nightmare to most
01:01:26because 99 out of 100
01:01:29don't achieve
01:01:30that particular dream
01:01:31so our particular dreams
01:01:32have to be rooted
01:01:33more than reality
01:01:34and people talk about
01:01:35keeping it real
01:01:36but you got to make it real first
01:01:37I mean I'm an ill individual
01:01:40I mean if you really
01:01:41get off into me man
01:01:42I'm like
01:01:42I'm ill
01:01:43I like all I watch
01:01:45is horror movies
01:01:46and shit
01:01:46but I've kind of like
01:01:50learned to control
01:01:50my negative side
01:01:51I've turned it into
01:01:52a very
01:01:53I'm a very peaceful
01:01:54calm individual
01:01:55I want to hurt nobody
01:01:57so I kind of like
01:01:58send that energy
01:02:00I used to have
01:02:00of the static
01:02:01that I used to act out
01:02:02I put that in my music
01:02:04it's like
01:02:05once you've been a criminal
01:02:06and you've been out there
01:02:07and you felt the
01:02:08the excitement
01:02:09the adrenaline rush
01:02:10of that life
01:02:11you're intoxicated forever
01:02:14but
01:02:15I know the way
01:02:16I'm living now
01:02:17I respect this life
01:02:19too much
01:02:20I would never take
01:02:21a risk like that
01:02:22because anything
01:02:23I went after now
01:02:24it would have to be
01:02:25like a million and up
01:02:26if I put a score
01:02:28down like that
01:02:28somebody's probably
01:02:29going to end up dead
01:02:30and I'll probably be
01:02:31on the run
01:02:31for the rest of my life
01:02:32but I still got the skills
01:02:34and I know I can
01:02:35I'm more of a
01:02:36I'm more of a crook
01:02:38than I am a rapper
01:02:39and I know that
01:02:39there you go
01:02:44that's the way
01:02:45your life
01:02:46that's what you like
01:02:47I'm going inbound
01:02:48yeah
01:02:48you did yours
01:02:49the same way
01:02:50you got a wide line
01:02:51can I get some furniture
01:02:53to work with
01:02:54some furniture
01:02:55yeah
01:02:57if I went into music
01:02:59finish what kind of
01:03:00game I would be in
01:03:01I'm not going to let you
01:03:03know what kind of game
01:03:03I would be in
01:03:04that's for me to know
01:03:06for you to find out
01:03:06yeah I wasn't
01:03:08the other stuff
01:03:09you know but
01:03:09it came a time
01:03:10when I got a reality
01:03:11check you know
01:03:12but something happened
01:03:13to me so
01:03:14after that when it
01:03:16happened you know
01:03:16I decided that
01:03:17I knew I better
01:03:17do this
01:03:18you know I might
01:03:20not be able to do
01:03:20nothing no more
01:03:21period
01:03:21got shot
01:03:24was confined to a
01:03:27wheelchair for like
01:03:27a year and a half
01:03:28yeah I mean
01:03:30I'm talking about
01:03:31I got shot nine times
01:03:32you know
01:03:33it ain't no
01:03:38surprising thing
01:03:40your body happens
01:03:41in every ghetto
01:03:42somebody gets shot
01:03:43or somebody get
01:03:43killed
01:03:43you know
01:03:44do I ever carry that
01:03:57yeah
01:03:58well done
01:03:58well first I couldn't
01:04:01believe it
01:04:01you know
01:04:02god damn
01:04:02you know
01:04:03I got hit
01:04:04I'm hit
01:04:05I think I knew
01:04:07I was doing
01:04:07so much wrong
01:04:08that I knew
01:04:09I was going
01:04:09straight to hell
01:04:10it ain't something
01:04:16that I'm proud of
01:04:17it's something
01:04:17I had to do
01:04:18because
01:04:19the situation
01:04:20I was in
01:04:21shooting at
01:04:22being shot
01:04:23I'd never get
01:04:28on camera
01:04:29saying no
01:04:29shit like
01:04:29that
01:04:30I ain't
01:04:31finna
01:04:31answer
01:04:31nothing
01:04:32like
01:04:32that
01:04:32say we

01:04:34hustling
01:04:35we gotta be
01:04:35scrapped
01:04:36because
01:04:36it's just
01:04:37like that
01:04:37you never
01:04:38know
01:04:38when a player

01:11:27out there
01:11:27and listen
01:11:28I think rap
01:11:29is just like
01:11:29country music
01:11:30okay
01:11:30cause you get
01:11:31to express
01:11:32yourself

01:11:33my heart
01:11:34in Arizona
01:11:34you know
01:11:35what I'm
01:11:35saying
01:11:36it's just
01:11:36the same
01:11:36thing
01:11:37it's like
01:11:37a stress
01:11:37reliever
01:11:39just like
01:11:40the little
01:11:40Chinese
01:11:41balls
01:11:41you rolling
01:11:42your hand
01:11:42and what have
01:11:43you
01:11:43to relieve
01:11:43the stress
01:11:44we rapping
01:11:45on the
01:11:46microphone
01:11:46and spitting
01:11:46all on
01:11:47the popper
01:11:48stopper
01:11:48feel me
01:11:50I'm running
01:11:57into older
01:11:57people of
01:11:58all colors
01:11:59they don't
01:11:59understand it
01:12:00they just
01:12:00think it's
01:12:00all bad
01:12:01which a lot
01:12:03of it is
01:12:03we'll give
01:12:03a damn
01:12:04but a lot
01:12:05of it is
01:12:06good too
01:12:06playboy
01:12:07when fools
01:12:10didn't even

01:12:20you know
01:12:20what I'm

01:12:26I think
01:12:28the move
01:12:29that hip hop
01:12:29is taking
01:12:29now
01:12:30what I see
01:12:30that the
01:12:31artists
01:12:31are gaining
01:12:32more control
01:12:32of the business
01:12:33aspect
01:12:34they're doing
01:12:35a lot more
01:12:35of their own
01:12:36production
01:12:36you know
01:12:37I mean
01:12:38I don't really

01:13:13we're from
01:13:14the hood
01:13:15and we
01:13:15take
01:13:15what we
01:13:16made
01:13:16about
01:13:17the hood
01:13:17and show
01:13:18people
01:13:18from the
01:13:19ghetto
01:13:19that you
01:13:19can have
01:13:20something
01:13:20you can
01:13:21be successful
01:13:22if you put
01:13:22your mind
01:13:23to it
01:13:23we're about
01:13:24being the
01:13:25next

01:13:31United States
01:13:32but world
01:13:32we used to
01:13:34sell tasting
01:13:35grocery stores
01:13:36liquor stores
01:13:37barbershops
01:13:38beauty saloons
01:13:40tire shops
01:13:42whatever
01:13:42however
01:13:43and it
01:13:43took
01:13:43off
01:13:43from
01:13:44there
01:13:44well
01:13:44I mean
01:13:44you know
01:13:45what I'm

01:13:51working hard
01:13:51all my life
01:13:52you know

01:13:53you know
01:13:53what I'm
01:13:53saying
01:13:53and trying
01:13:54to get
01:13:54this job
01:13:54done
01:13:55so I
01:13:55mean
01:13:56the idea
01:13:57that we
01:13:57are now
01:13:57here
01:13:58is good
01:13:59I mean
01:13:59we still

01:13:59long way
01:14:00to go

01:14:10it's gonna
01:14:10continue to
01:14:11be in the
01:14:11back of
01:14:11the store
01:14:12until everybody
01:14:13steps up
01:14:14and starts
01:14:14doing different

01:14:15we do have
01:14:15to start
