00:00The Kuala Lumpur High Court has declared fashion designer Datuk Jovian Mandagi bankrupt

00:06for failing to repay a RM5 million friendly loan he took from a company.

00:11Senior Assistant Registrar Mohamed Faisal Zulkifli issued the order against the former

00:16son-in-law of Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob during a hearing of the creditor's petition.

00:22It is said Chekhab Ayir Sendirian Berhad filed the petition after Jovian failed to settle a

00:27total sum of RM5,284,340 and 66 sen including interest owed to the company.

00:36The company claimed it had loaned RM5 million to Jovian on February 25, 2022 through a verbal

00:43agreement. The loan was made verbally and casually as the company's director, Yong Zhenwei, was

00:50acquainted with Jovian and repayment was expected within 12 months. However, the company alleged

00:56that Jovian failed, refused or neglected to repay the loan and that the non-repayment had caused

01:02serious financial losses. Lawyer Siti Noor Athirazati Rohizad for the company said the High Court had

01:08issued a summary judgment in April ordering Jovian to repay the loan. Jovian had filed multiple

01:15applications to stay and strike out both the bankruptcy notice and the petition but all were

01:21dismissed by the court. His appeal on the summary judgment will be heard at the Court of Appeal

01:26on September 15.
