00:00Thailand's suspended Prime Minister Pei Thong Tharn Shinawatra was sworn in as Minister
00:06of Culture on Thursday, a strategic move that enables her to attend cabinet meetings while
00:12awaiting a court decision on misconduct allegations.
00:15Pei Thong Tharn, along with 13 newly appointed ministers, took the oath of office before
00:20King Maha Vajiralongkorn in Bangkok.
00:24The cabinet reshuffle was announced on Tuesday, just hours before the Constitutional Court
00:29suspended her prime ministerial duties, pending the outcome of an ethics probe.
00:34The complaint, filed by 36 senators, accuses Pei Thong Tharn of dishonesty and violating
00:40ethical standards, following the leak of a phone conversation allegedly involving Cambodia's
00:45former Prime Minister Hun Sen.
00:48The reshuffle is seen as a political maneuver by the ruling coalition to shore up its support
00:54after the recent withdrawal of the conservative Pum Jai Thai party, which had significantly
00:59eroded the coalition's parliamentary majority.
01:03Deputy Prime Minister Phum Tham Wechaya Chai, a veteran politician and former defense minister,
01:08has been appointed caretaker prime minister.
01:11The 71-year-old will also take on the role of interior minister in the revamped cabinet.
01:17The latest political upheaval has raised fresh concerns over the government's stability and
01:23its ability to pass key legislation, including the upcoming national budget.
