00:00:51Adolfo Washington as they get it
00:00:53on for the WBA Cruiserweight
00:00:55Championship the main attraction
00:00:57upcoming on Showtime Championship
00:00:59boxing. So who is the best
00:01:03cruiserweight in the world many
00:01:05feel that it is indeed Orla
00:01:06Norris the longest reigning
00:01:07Cruiserweight champion is Anaclet
00:01:09Wamba the WBC title holder yet he is
00:01:12somewhat untested since he's fought
00:01:13largely in Europe. The IBF champ
00:01:15Alfred Cole probably the most famous
00:01:17and most gifted cruiser was Evander
00:01:19Holyfield went on to climb bigger
00:01:21mountains. The Cruiserweight division
00:01:23to some extent still perceived as a
00:01:25holding zone for fighters in limbo
00:01:27you're either too big for light
00:01:29heavyweight or not big enough for
00:01:30heavyweight. Now it suddenly began to
00:01:32blossom and fill up and right now
00:01:34Orla Norris arguably is considered
00:01:36the cream of the crop and many feel
00:01:37that tonight's fight is for the
00:01:39unofficial world's best title.
00:01:50People are looking for the top guy you
00:01:53know when he said that he wanted me you
00:01:56know you know that told me that I was a
00:01:58top guy. Knowing that he's tough and
00:02:05knowing that he's going to come to
00:02:06fight knowing that he's coming to take
00:02:07what I have and you know that motivates me.
00:02:12We respect them but you know once you
00:02:22claim in the ring all that respect you
00:02:24know it stays outside you know you get it
00:02:27when you leave.
00:02:33As of right now I respect him but I
00:02:35won't respect him when I get once I get
00:02:37in there. You know if he wants respect
00:02:39when I get in there he got to make me
00:02:41respect him. In this stage of my
00:02:43boxing career I'm more of a brawler
00:02:47with you know trying to see everything
00:02:49you know catching punches and making my
00:02:51opponent pay.
00:02:54When he gets in the ring when he tries to
00:02:56move he's got to stay away you know he's
00:02:58not going to fight inside fight.
00:03:00I like to box and if I have to get down
00:03:01and pocket and fight I can do that just as
00:03:04well.
00:03:06I think my biggest thing for him would be my
00:03:09left jab.
00:03:12I've seen him he have trouble with
00:03:13somebody with a good left jab.
00:03:15My game plan is to put pressure on him.
00:03:18I'm moving back you know just wearing
00:03:21down.
00:03:23If you're getting the right amount of
00:03:24pressure you know eventually you're going to
00:03:26stop.
00:03:27I'm not going to run from him I'm going to
00:03:28box him and I'm going to make him work.
00:03:32He's not going to just stand there he's
00:03:33going to have to work and if he catch me I'll be
00:03:36right there to deal with him.
00:03:47I expect for him to run you know and I
00:03:50expect that it's going to take me a little
00:03:51time to catch up with him you know but if he
00:03:53comes to me I'll go home early tonight.
00:04:05My plan is to get him into the later
00:04:07rounds you know bust him up stay away from
00:04:10him and pot shot him all night long.
00:04:19So there you have it let's get into
00:04:20Norris's dilemma or is it does he stay at
00:04:23190 pounds if he continues to cruise
00:04:25through the competition or should he move
00:04:26back up to the heavyweight division for the
00:04:29bigger paydays.
00:04:30Ferdie your feelings.
00:04:31My feeling is very simply stated it's
00:04:33great to be the king and he is the king of
00:04:36the cruiserweight he's the gatekeeper
00:04:37there's nobody there that's in his class
00:04:40they're all knocking at the door I think
00:04:42he can knock each one of them off make a
00:04:43nice payday not threaten himself.
00:04:45On the other hand in the heavyweights
00:04:46they're big bad boys he's not big enough
00:04:48to go in with the top guys and if you're
00:04:50not going to go with the top guys the
00:04:51money's not going to be that big.
00:04:53I would advise them to stay in the
00:04:55cruiserweight collect all the money fight
00:04:57everybody that's coming up and then see
00:04:59what happens after a few years.
00:05:01I definitely do not advise them to go
00:05:04into the heavyweight.
00:05:04On the flip side is Norris a little too
00:05:08overconfident in terms of the cruiserweight
00:05:10division.
00:05:10We saw what happened in his first
00:05:12encounter with Art Williams.
00:05:13It's a natural phenomenon with a boxer
00:05:15when he gets to be the best you say well guys
00:05:17come along that aren't quite as good and
00:05:19they go to sleep on him.
00:05:19Arthur Williams almost beat him that first
00:05:21fight.
00:05:21Second fight when he paid attention he
00:05:23cleaned his clock.
00:05:24I mean Orland just took care of business.
00:05:26When Orland's on and I think he's learned
00:05:28his lesson there then I don't think
00:05:30there's many cruiserweights that can beat
00:05:31him in the world.
00:05:32So he has to just simply stay focused.
00:05:34I think he's got a good corner.
00:05:35I think he's got his brother Terry
00:05:37Norris.
00:05:37Joe Sayada which is a great manager and
00:05:39he's right there with the guy.
00:05:40I think he's going to be paying attention
00:05:42to business each and every time he steps
00:05:44up to bat now.
00:05:44What does tonight's challenger Adolfo
00:05:47Washington have to do to be successful
00:05:49where other cruiserweights have failed
00:05:51against Orland Norris?
00:05:52It's hard.
00:05:52I think his fight is to try to bull in,
00:05:56to try to tie him up, to try to rough him
00:05:58up on the inside, to get him out of his
00:05:59game plan.
00:06:00If he sits back and tries to jab and
00:06:02seize what Orland will do, Orland will
00:06:04knock him out.
00:06:05I mean you just don't wait for Orland Norris
00:06:07to hit you.
00:06:08So my strategy with him would be walk
00:06:11in, try to take command, try to push
00:06:12him back, try to make him fight going
00:06:14back.
00:06:14It's a battle of strength, a battle of
00:06:16bulls at the beginning and that's the
00:06:18only one strategy that he has to see
00:06:20if he can put in place.
00:06:20Yeah, Orland Norris likes to come in.
00:06:22He likes to swarm.
00:06:23He's got that big looping overhand right.
00:06:26Some people say that maybe Washington
00:06:29would be best to keep his distance and
00:06:31fight with a jab, but you're saying he
00:06:32should come in as well.
00:06:33He's going to keep Orland Norris off
00:06:36with a jab unless he's got a Joe
00:06:37Lois jab or a Sonny Liston jab.
00:06:39One of those kind of things that
00:06:40takes your head off, which he hasn't
00:06:41got and to stay back just gives him
00:06:43punching room.
00:06:44And when you give Orland Norris
00:06:45punching room, he lands combinations
00:06:47and batters your body.
00:06:48You know, we're looking at a very
00:06:49good fighter in Orland Norris.
00:06:50This is not cheesecake.
00:06:52This is the best there is going in the
00:06:53cruiserweight.
00:06:54So don't give him room to do what he
00:06:55wants.
00:06:56You try to get him out of his game
00:06:57plan.
00:06:58You try to get him mad.
00:06:58You try to get him all raffled
00:07:00around as Williams did that night.
00:07:02He's undefeated as a cruiserweight.
00:07:04He certainly conquered this division.
00:07:06I have a feeling I know the answer to
00:07:07this question.
00:07:07But how about a prediction on Norris
00:07:09versus Washington?
00:07:11I would think until somebody big
00:07:13comes along that I would be impressed
00:07:15with, I would think that Orland Norris
00:07:17could take care of business tonight.
00:07:18I'd look for a good fight.
00:07:19I'd look for a close fight at the
00:07:20beginning.
00:07:21But I think Orland will pull away in
00:07:22the later rounds.
00:07:24It's going to be a good, interesting
00:07:26fight.

00:07:26Let's hope, at least for entertainment's
00:07:28sake, that it goes beyond the first and
00:07:30second round.
00:07:30On the other card here tonight, there
00:07:32were a lot of first and second round
00:07:34knockouts.
00:07:34We just saw Cardamone lose to Julian
00:07:37Jackson in the second round.
00:07:38Hey, it's St. Patrick's Day.
00:07:39People want to get out and celebrate.

00:07:43All right.
00:07:43There's a delay here because of the
00:07:46quick knockout in the last fight.
00:07:48So the fighters are not quite ready
00:07:49for their ring walks.
00:07:52But let's go back and not only look,
00:07:54but let us listen to that one-punch
00:07:57knockout by Julian Jackson.
00:07:58He used a ferocious right hand against
00:08:00Agostino Cardamone in round two of
00:08:02the fight we just saw.
00:08:03Listen.
00:08:03Well, that was a vicious right hand.
00:08:27He's known for his great left hook,
00:08:28but he also has a very powerful right
00:08:30hand, as Mr. Cardamone just found out.
00:08:32You know, you're looking at one of the
00:08:34treasures of boxing or one of the
00:08:36things that makes it so interesting.
00:08:37You can train.
00:08:38You can do everything.
00:08:38One punch changes everything.
00:08:40The only sport I know of, I mean, you
00:08:41know, you're behind 27 and nothing.
00:08:43You've got to pay to the end of the
00:08:44of the ball game.
00:08:46In boxing, one punch can change the
00:08:48entire contest in the 12th round if
00:08:50you have to go that far.
00:08:51And when you see it that cleanly and
00:08:53that well shot by a champion who is
00:08:55known for his punching fire, you've
00:08:56really seen a home run.
00:08:57And it shows you you just can't count
00:08:59a guy out, particularly after you see
00:09:01that he is stunned in the previous
00:09:04round like he was against Cardamone.
00:09:05He was still able to regroup, get
00:09:08himself together and with one punch and
00:09:10the fight.
00:09:10Well, what did we see here?
00:09:12What can we learn?
00:09:13He's not shot, but he's on the way.
00:09:14I mean, he's he's Julian was a lot
00:09:17slower.
00:09:18He's reacting for he's getting hit by a
00:09:19guy that didn't that can't punch and
00:09:21got in trouble.
00:09:22I mean, that means his chin is still
00:09:24suspect after this fight.
00:09:25That means he's still going toward the
00:09:28end of his career.
00:09:29But he has got that one big punch and
00:09:32that one big punch can knock you out.
00:09:33So he's around for a while.
00:09:34He is the champion of the world.
00:09:36Julian Jackson, the hog is back.
00:09:38Once again, still a little difficult to
00:09:40measure because we are not quite that
00:09:43certain about Agostino Cardamone.
00:09:45He did come in with a very successful
00:09:46record.
00:09:47He was a 23 and 0 with just nine
00:09:49knockouts, but he did fight largely
00:09:51in Europe.
00:09:53All right.
00:09:53We are ready for our main event now.
00:09:55We've had a bit of a delay here because
00:09:57of the quickness of that first fight,
00:09:59the WBC middleweight championship in
00:10:01which Julian Jackson knocked out
00:10:03Agostino Cardamone in the second round.
00:10:05Let's take our first look at the
00:10:06challenger.
00:10:0727 year old Adolfo Washington, the
00:10:09WBA's number one cruiserweight
00:10:11contender.
00:10:11Washington born in Chicago, Illinois,
00:10:13makes his home in Lexington, Kentucky.
00:10:15He comes off an eighth round TKO over
00:10:17David Izaguari in November.
00:10:19He's 24, two and two with 15 KOs and
00:10:21getting his third crack at a world
00:10:23title.
00:10:24Unsuccessful in his first two tries,
00:10:26a technical loss to Virgil Hill for the
00:10:28WBA light heavyweight title in 93 and a
00:10:30draw against Anaclet Wumba for the WBC
00:10:33Cruiserweight title in 94.
00:10:34Arguably Washington's most impressive
00:10:36performance to date is stopping a
00:10:38former world champion, Iran Barkley in
00:10:40October of 93 by way of a sixth round
00:10:42knockout.

00:11:43Adolfo Washington I mentioned the technical loss to Hill for the WBA light heavyweight title in a
00:11:57bizarre turn of events Washington when returning to his corner in the 11th accidentally poked in
00:12:03the eye by a cameraman this caused the eye to swell shut and bleed profusely after being looked at by
00:12:08the ringside doctor and in keeping with WBA rules the fight went to the scorecards ultimately
00:12:13resulting in a technical loss in his other title fight with the Wamba a draw one point was mistakenly
00:12:19not deducted from the champion scorecard for an unintentional headbutt consequently allowing Wamba
00:12:24to keep the title only in boxing and now here is the champion 29 year old Orlin Norris making his
00:12:33fourth defense of the title he comes in at 42 and 3 with one no decision 24 KOs his first two title
00:12:39defenses against Arthur Williams his third defense this past November a quick second round knockout
00:12:44of James Heath in New Mexico Orlin Norris the older brother of former WBC super welterweight King

00:20:46Norris, compact, solid, pacing in his corner,
00:20:49very eager to get at Washington.
00:20:51Washington, who bears a striking resemblance to,
00:20:54yes, Mike Tyson, including not having socks
00:20:58with his black shoes, he's a complete Tyson.
00:21:01I see if he can fight anywhere near Mike Tyson's feet.
00:21:03Well, Washington's trend of the highly experienced
00:21:05Goody Petronelli, who trained the great marvelous
00:21:07Marvin Hagler told us he feels that Norris
00:21:09likes an opponent that comes right at him,
00:21:11that Norris' defense is his offense.
00:21:14Goody went on to say Washington likes a guy
00:21:16who comes at him as well,
00:21:18so this could be an interesting fight.
00:21:20This is round one scheduled for 12
00:21:21for the WBA Cruiserweight Championship,
00:21:24which belongs to the man of the white trunks, Orla Norris.
00:21:27And right off the bat, you see both of them
00:21:28are almost like mirror images.
00:21:29They're both what you would call
00:21:31in the world of biology, measle marks.
00:21:33Okay.
00:21:34Just a little bit of for your education.
00:21:35Thank you very much.
00:21:36I'm writing that one down.
00:21:37Washington's key is speed.
00:21:40He has good movement, pretty good defense.
00:21:42That left a glancing blow,
00:21:45fortunately for Washington.
00:21:47Washington a counter puncher.
00:21:48He's especially ready, he told us,
00:21:50for those looping overhand rights
00:21:51that Norris likes to throw.
00:21:52Norris hasn't attempted to come in with two or three punches.
00:21:55He's going through it very, very hard
00:21:57as if he's kind of saving him and waiting.
00:21:59He hasn't moved in with his accustomed fierceness.
00:22:03Right now he's standing outside
00:22:04letting him just hit air with his jabs
00:22:07and he's not very effective with the jabs,
00:22:09not keeping him off.
00:22:11Norris generally likes to attack early and often swarming.
00:22:14Washington told us he likes a fast pace
00:22:17and that Norris will try to slow things down.
00:22:19Adolfo said, I'll pick it up.
00:22:20If Norris gets tired in the later rounds,
00:22:22if it goes that far, it won't go the distance.
00:22:24We'll see.
00:22:28And Washington is keeping his distance.
00:22:30I did suggest this to you
00:22:32as a possible piece of strategy for Washington.
00:22:35We'll see how long it lasts.
00:22:36Norris likes to come in winging when he comes in.
00:22:44Once he gets in close, if he stays,
00:22:46if they let him stay in there,
00:22:47he's going to really do some damage.
00:22:49But Washington's jab, as he's advertised,
00:22:52he's going to throw it a lot.
00:22:53He's hitting air mostly and glove.
00:22:55But every once in a while he's coming through,
00:22:57at least he's throwing something.
00:22:59Norris a well-disciplined fighter,
00:23:02deceptively strong, does have good speed
00:23:06and effective shotgun jab,
00:23:08as our pal Bobby Ches likes to say.
00:23:10There's a good left setting up a right by Norris.
00:23:13He doubled up on the left
00:23:15and then launched the right hand.
00:23:17Nice little, dropped a nice right hand
00:23:19in Washington in there.
00:23:20Didn't do much damage.
00:23:21It wasn't hard, but it was a good idea.
00:23:27Pretty good left uppercut to the midsection
00:23:29by Washington.
00:23:30Less than 30 seconds in the first.
00:23:33Now Norris beginning to open up a little more.
00:23:35Feeling his oats.
00:23:37He's cut the distance between them.
00:23:39Just quietly, he's been sneaking in there.

00:25:45Recently, we saw evidence of the right when he knocked down Arthur Williams in the first round of their first fight back in March.
00:25:52Well, that's one thing that's common in the Norris family.
00:25:56Terry Norris is a devastating clincher and his brother is too.
00:25:59Terry's in here someplace and watching his brother fight.

00:29:11washington the black with the white trim giving instructions to norris was able sanchez right
00:29:20you know why do you keep he's ducking his head and that's all of those but you know
00:29:25norris in action norris is starting to pick up the face he really has he's on the ball to his feet
00:29:30and he has picked it up a good right hand though good counter punch by washington another right but
00:29:36back comes norris that was a good stop you where you are kind of right hand by washington but he had
00:29:42received watching and received several joking shots like that norris may have been thinking hey i'm
00:29:48starting to have my way here then all of a sudden stopped dead in his tracks by that shot
00:29:53unleashed by washington right hand that missed by norris he's having trouble making contact with washington
00:29:57it's a good jab by washington washington really effectively going to the jab birdie here to keep
00:30:09norris that day yeah and uh norris so he's not hitting with those but still they're building up points
00:30:14remember uh judging his kind of trained did look for the guy to keep on working with the jab but
00:30:20the attacker and the aggressor happens to be the champion norris and the guy's landing the heavier shots have
00:30:25been excellent head movement by washington able to elude these strong punches nice jabbing by uh uh
00:30:35washington every once in a while he stops and does something very good
00:30:41his whole blow there by all the north being cautioned by the referee hubert earl look at look at the guard
00:30:46of of warland look at that he puts those two gloves up there and he picks everything off with those two
00:30:51gloves and every once in a while he crosses the right on top of the jab good style for him norris 42 and
00:30:58three one no decision 24 knockouts his fourth title defense many feel that prior to winning the
00:31:04wba cruiserweight title he was long overdue for a world championship he had fought as a cruiserweight
00:31:10and not as a heavyweight early in his career he probably would have won a world title long ago
00:31:14the round three ranges on
00:31:36less than 30 seconds in the third round and washington doing very well he may not be
00:31:42winning a couple of these runs before he's sure in there he's in this fight break
00:31:53triple jab they didn't many of lamb a boy looks good look at that he missed by about six inches

00:33:33he's not laying still he's coming back and he's making orland norris fight harder than he has
00:33:39washington losing in controversial fashion to virgil hill with a title and fighting to withdraw in
00:33:45controversial fashion against anaclet womba so he's had about enough of that now he wants the title
00:33:51and showing a very very stern chin is the challenger washington and also that stiff jazz that continues
00:34:00to pour in whether it's landing one out of five or not he's still throwing it and it's still keeping
00:34:07norris off balance that's point building there's a combination by norris but
00:34:12right back comes washington with the left hand
00:34:17oh underneath comes or the north and it fires a combination to the head of washington but
00:34:22washington's standing right in there well that was a lot of firepower that time on a part of
00:34:26orland norris it didn't seem to he didn't seem to blink washington he just kept coming back
00:34:31i mean he had like three or four combinations there did orland norris now either those punches aren't as
00:34:37severe as they look well watch it has a an amazing chin and a good attitude about it because he comes
00:34:44right back fighting you know at first appearance when you look at it's a hunter and the uh the guy
00:34:52that's being hunted but really he's fighting in this retreating fashion he's not uh running he what he's
00:34:58doing is a proper fight i thought he should come in and make mix it up with him but even though he
00:35:03he may be losing these rounds still he's in every one of them and the judge can see it the other
00:35:07way just as easily less than a minute remaining in the fourth round he's 27 year old washington and the
00:35:14black trust 24 2 and 2 with 15 knockouts
00:35:20he grew up in chatham louisiana lived in lexington kentucky he's making kentucky proud
00:35:26that's good fighting he's going back popping and dabbing right hand comes out every once in a while
00:35:35and north or the north doesn't seem to have any offense except to call or get hit there was a
00:35:40left hand by norris but again it was a glancing blow as washington defended it beautifully and he's back
00:35:46to popping again i like this guy watching as we head for the bell in round four and or is saying to

00:36:00okay now that uppercut in the inside all right every time you get on the inside even if it doesn't
00:36:19land is going to set up the hook all right so you got to come inside outside outside inside
00:36:23you just can't let him get two or three more shut off from you all right you can't let him get busy
00:36:35in there break up that rhythm don't let him get busy on me all right deep breath one more time don't
00:36:41put that camera in that close one more time all the back of it all right
00:36:44come on let's go so we are standing by for round five the instructions from abel sanchez into the
00:37:05space of order norris use the uppercut even if it misses even if it doesn't land it'll set up the hook
00:37:11he's been fighting no question about it has frustrated orland north in every attempt to get
00:37:19into serious punching and even when he gets punch hard he comes right back fighting he doesn't take
00:37:25a breather he is a workman he works his way into what i think is an even fight right at this point
00:37:33washington certainly doesn't mind fighting on his opponent's terms
00:37:37he operates behind a quick strong jab as we have seen here tonight he knows how to slide to his left
00:37:43and right well and changes angles effectively he looked impressive in his last fight against
00:37:48nigerian born david is a query who got into the ratings by stopping bobby says this best off
00:37:55and followed up by a beautiful left another right side washington great punching by washington that was
00:38:00beautiful combination and norris just took still as if mesmerized he took all those shots they didn't
00:38:07hurt him but boy with a point you build with that kind of a flurry and a heavy right by norris miss
00:38:13because of the head movement of washington well all of a sudden this is developing into a threat for the
00:38:19gatekeeper here this guy keeps fighting like this we may have big problems for norris as this fight comes to
00:38:30the ground midway through the fifth round good round for the challenger washington
00:38:39break against his inquiry the more experienced although younger washington ended matters
00:38:44suddenly in the eighth with a flurry and a nice closing hook wild miss there by norris
00:38:52also a point though well you talked about tricks before washington says he knows some tricks
00:38:59like moving to the side and punching there's a good left hand by washington he did it in that
00:39:04fighting retreat in the last round just going backwards he just kept pummeling both hands going
00:39:07back that's a nice thing if you can do it not many people can well no matter what happens washington
00:39:13has earned this shot at orla norris for the title he felt that anaclant wamba wanted no part of him
00:39:21he fought the wbc champions who would draw two fights ago and that ibf camp al cole wouldn't fight him
00:39:27as well oh he's not fighting with fear here he's fighting an equal fighter and he's willing to let
00:39:33his style is beginning to puzzle carlin norris look at that a number now he's landing
00:39:40adolfo washington in the black really confusing for the norris here good left hand by norris
00:39:47but didn't do any damage getting braver every round he's getting like steam you know getting like oh this
00:39:54these i can do this dancing one around has seemed to good combination sets of combinations now he spins

00:40:40falling back isn't punching that's scoring points for washington he did that twice in a minute but
00:40:48that's what builds up one more time all right we're running we're running
00:41:02it is round number six washington taking this fight to the champion orland norris
00:41:12washington is dictating the terms here not only taking it but it looks like he's having fun that
00:41:16last round he started to smile looks like he's having fun and all of a get nervous and he's grim
00:41:22and in this corner they look like they're starting to get the message today this could be a fight we could be

00:41:31seemed also to be a bit confused about what round it was it is round six well it's not hard to tell

00:42:19multi-colored combinations of his whip whip and then he moves nice right hand straight right off the
00:42:25button by washington a little dancing a little motion you're getting to get ali s here

00:42:41on harlan north he left his feet and leaped in with a punch not one of those things you want to see

00:43:19got the button oh that was a good shot to the face of washington but he didn't even well enough
00:43:25right hand by washington good right hand good left hook by washington got hit oh they're going toe to
00:43:30toe down the center of the ranks terrific exchanges let's look at this kid look at washington he's just
00:43:36having fun he moved away from it like oh that was fun and now back to jabbing back to moving
00:43:43the action a lot more furious here in the sixth round under 20 seconds oh what a combination a right
00:43:49hand by the challenger washington and a wild miss by norris yes because washington punched and moved in the
00:43:56wrong direction instead of going in the direction he went the other way and that suckered norris right

00:44:14take a deep breath take a deep breath
00:44:19how are you feeling good all right look what you got to do like i said before uh just
00:44:24he's putting back up he's putting the pressure on you a little bit he's making it easy when you get
00:44:29a little more flawless more combination he's just edging you on that damn round because he's he's a
00:44:33director the total combination just like going to bang bang to the total up head and body head and
00:44:38body throw that jib and right hook every now and then
00:44:49until the end of the round you this guy yelling you know when you tell me when i tell you to finish up
00:44:53you got to start going don't stop printing well you may have noticed they asked the cameraman to move
00:44:58back he harken back to that story uh from earlier tonight washington returning to his quarter in the
00:45:0311th round against virgil hill for the wba light heavyweight title was accidentally poked in the eye by
00:45:09a camera caused the odd as well shut and bleed profusely and after being looked at by the doctor
00:45:15keeping it with the rules the fight went to the scorecards and resulted in the check of the law so
00:45:19they're not taking any chances anymore somebody gave this guy stp or something i mean what what gas has he
00:45:26got in his gas tank he's picking up the paint is washington he's picking up the paint washington
00:45:31in tremendous condition as we begin round seven well you know i can't hear the the corners we're not
00:45:38getting corners down all i can hear is goody when i take my earphone off we're going to work out
00:45:45that's pretty good we're round seven he's stepping it up well washington is certainly getting through with
00:45:50those punches he is frustrating but you wonder if he's hurting him there's a good display by norris
00:45:56that was the best norris combination of all a one-two a a norris kind of combination to put you on a
00:46:01deck let's see how washington reacts to that he's reacting well boy that was a hard one
00:46:07and norris has any way to do anything he should turn his round around because of that hard punch
00:46:16he should walk right in disregard the punches and walk right in a close fight 30 how do you see it
00:46:21thus far so far it's 58 56 and i've got washington by surprise ahead by surprise to me i thought morris would
00:46:28be way ahead we're in round seven
00:46:30a little bit of a surprise here adulto washington the challenger looking very impressive against the
00:46:40champion or the north he better get himself a little bit of the same gasoline the other guy got
00:46:46because he needs to step it up he landed the most crunching blows in the fight and then didn't follow
00:46:51going up washington too quick and then puts the left jab and then norris misses with his left
00:47:01again left his feet and went in with a jab which you can easily avoid should be able to under a minute
00:47:07remaining in round seven break
00:47:16good stiff jab by arly north the voice of malcolm garrett in the background
00:47:20the urging on adulto washington don't let norris rest just keep working and be first for the
00:47:28instructions to washington i think that that combination slow in washington no question about
00:47:32that and that was very hard you don't take that kind of punch for a lot of mars and that field
00:47:37and there's a good left hand by washington and he blocked norris very well
00:47:41he's got some good skills here adulto washington excellent offense and the people who like defense
00:47:50you gotta like this and now he again dancing around he's in remarkable shape
00:47:57vital seconds of round seven

00:48:12how do you feel okay you can't let that man be busier than you you gotta get busier now
00:48:18let's take a look at that great one two the best punch there's the left hook and there's the right
00:48:44hand right behind it and that took a lot of starts out of washington for about the rest of that round
00:48:48until the end he started coming back i gave that round to arlyn norris based on that very hard
00:48:54but washington was in there and it could be an even run and it could have even gone to washington
00:48:59the kind of fight this is right now ahead of the fight is washington 67 66 and and nars has got his work
00:49:07cutoff round a scheduled for 12 for the wva cruiserweight championship
00:49:14abel sanchez telling north to get busier
00:49:19washington certainly has been the busier of the two to this point
00:49:27now we got one guy that likes defense walter smith who's been a great referee from puerto rico
00:49:32he loves defensive fighters and guys have moved so on his court court card i think he would be looking
00:49:38at this as a washington fight can't ever tell us hard to predict there's a combination by norris
00:49:45another good one too by norris washington leading in and that's what they don't want from
00:49:51his corner yeah there's he's taking a lot of punishment there a four punch combination and got inside and
00:49:57norris did what he finally was supposed to be doing fighting inside two three four punches they want
00:50:03washington to continue to keep his distance has been working enough norris swarming door is opening
00:50:09up and pouring it on and beginning to connect with solid shots and if that's the case we're not going to see
00:50:14too much dancing anymore from washington well let's see if that slurry slowed down washington still he dances around
00:50:27down the pressure he's been very effective here in round eight good right hand off the top of the hand
00:50:40of norris norris started out very good and he looks like he's getting to watch it looks like he's starting
00:50:46to hurt him he must continue but the movement of washington has him before right hand there by washington

00:51:02there's a left jab by washington we'll see if he follows it up with another right
00:51:06a looping right hand very well advertised by mr norris
00:51:12that was telegraphed and now norris up against the ropes he may be playing possible
00:51:16he's not getting hit no he's not he could be setting a trap here for the challenger there it is
00:51:21the right hand by norris two right hands three right hands a little uppercut inside two three oh what a
00:51:28sequence for the champion that's what he should have been doing and he's coming on here here comes
00:51:34he blocked that left hand did norris going to the right hand
00:51:39norris has now got the fight he wants inside short distance those little short arms are doing damage to
00:51:43washington terrific round for the champion or the norris who continues to step forward
00:51:54norris in control final seconds round eight and now you're looking at a weary
00:52:00he doesn't think it's fun anymore he's that dancing now this round has really taken the start out of washington

00:52:36i've looked at some of this action where washington early was landing the shots and he started to
00:52:41think well i got this going my way and all of a sudden here comes north look at the variety of
00:52:46punches inside and short tailor-made for those short arms now watch the way norris is on the ropes he
00:52:51looks like he's doing nothing but catching and here he comes right hand and another right hand
00:52:57okay seconds they were missing off the but that's that punch up behind the ear and around the ear
00:53:02that does that i mean that that shakes you to the soles of your feet and and we saw that the rest of
00:53:07the round washington did not fight with real smart new round number nine for the wba cruiserweight
00:53:14championship of the world scheduled for 12. the words of goody petronelli he's about had it that
00:53:19could have been full confidence for washington he really knows though what's happening out there he's
00:53:25getting coming right well goody goody's a very good ring psychologist and you know he's got to give
00:53:30his kids some some energy some boost but you know what you can't fool about you's getting pumped
00:53:36if he's running out i'm going back to washington still sticking to his game plan taking this
00:53:41uh two of the late rounds using his speed dancing around trying to keep his distance if he can
00:53:49i've got this unofficially even so you know this is like from here on out it's whoever fights or
00:53:56coming from the mouth and i washington i reiterate unofficially because we've seen some strange decisions
00:54:03that's not necessarily mean we aren't in las vegas are we no we're not i don't think so we're in st
00:54:08patrick's day anything western massachusetts the scene of this wba cruiserweight championship and it
00:54:15has been a good one the memorial auditorium that has seen the great sugar ray robinson fight here
00:54:26and now cruiserweight toe-to-toe in the center of the ring norris and washing both landing in that
00:54:33exchange but notice there are no legs underneath watching anymore you don't see them dancing and
00:54:37moving with that great grace that he had he stayed still to punch and that is on norris's fight he
00:54:43wants the guy to stand still and get hammered by those pistol-like small arms and he's got he needs
00:54:48inside he needs some room to punch hard and body which is what he's been doing this round
00:54:54norris is getting in his way now norris coming forward looking to start
00:54:58looking at the jab but not making contact under a minute to go on the night
00:55:10now landing with the jab is norris coming back was washington a right hand that overcuts norris
00:55:16the entire river club and for the first time washington stood still and took everything i mean everything
00:55:23and washington washington washington saying is that all you got but no i got more
00:55:27stand still and i'll show you some more and now the roof is starting to cave in on washington
00:55:35less than 30 seconds in round nine back he comes back washing comes but with nothing on his punches and standing
00:55:41close to the last two rounds has seen the tide turn washington has taken a lot of leather in the last
00:55:52six minutes

00:55:59continues to come underneath looking to take the starts and steam out of doors terrific finish by
00:56:06washington at the end of the ninth round maybe too late to take that round but boy was it
00:56:11impressive listen to this crowd
00:56:18get that ice back out all right you get you have to do what you just did then you got to get tough
00:56:25with this guy now he's getting some points right now you understand he's ahead no yeah he's got a few
00:56:31points on you so what you got to do is you're going to have to rough him up and kill box you're going
00:56:38to have to rough him up and let's take a look at it from this overhead camera we see the action as
00:56:44loris begins his bombardment from every angle now see how you get leverage with his legs he just
00:56:50starts to move right into washington washington for the first time is moving back and at the end of the
00:56:55round washington almost pulls his round out by a very brave let's go let's go second but here these
00:57:01body shots is over that's one great body shot and they finished at the end of the cover prior to that
00:57:06he landed some very hard body shots and washington damn near pulled up the round out let's see if he can
00:57:10pick up where he left off as we begin round 10 adolfo washington with a yuri is finished tonight
00:57:18watching his third crack at a world title north 4-0 in world championship fights washington 0-1-1
00:57:27he's come so close
00:57:35combination by norris but back comes washington
00:57:38washington seems to regain a little courage for maybe that last rally at the very end of the round
00:57:43game is a little spirit because he's coming back with a much more spirit attack he looked dog
00:57:48weary and tired in that last one until he put on the hit list of the fans to our left getting behind
00:57:57norris with chance of orland it's a mixed crowd in terms of who they're backing
00:58:03going for the underdog in the black trunk the minute gone by in round 10.
00:58:12right off the top of norris's head that shot
00:58:16and again norris pressing the attack with his mother watching
00:58:22every time he has in the vicinity of a corner where he could cut him off and pummel
00:58:27let's go let's go i don't understand that because that's his attack right in the corner
00:58:37oh a wild fish with the left by washington getting a little tired and careless
00:58:43just throwing what he can if it lands it lands if it doesn't make him
00:58:49there has been no knockdowns in this fight oh what a right hand unleashed by washington
00:58:56nice point building
00:59:00that can't let up break i mean no sooner were you looking at that mifty right hand
00:59:09again the pace should be coming more frantic now towards the end of the round and it might
00:59:14when i say a very very good clean fight i mean as much as they're leaning in you think they'd get
00:59:19some kind of butter but they don't even have clinches they just keep on playing and generally for the most
00:59:23part of very good pace for such big guys they're each 190 pounds
00:59:29well you can expect that from north i didn't know if you could get that out of russia apparently you can't
00:59:37washington likes the fast pace he said that norris was trying to slow things down but norris has
00:59:42certainly stayed with the pace washington the thing he'll pick it up and if doris gets time to later
00:59:48round he says he's going to take him out let's see what happens good action good exchange here against
00:59:55the ropes is norris but again he could be setting a trap yeah he's getting the best of that he's against the
01:00:02and a very appreciative holiday crowd here at the worcester memorial auditorium
01:00:18in worcester mass as we head to the championship rounds around every 11. we mentioned sugar ray
01:00:25robinson for here the entertainers who perform here range from benny goodman to frank sinatra to prince
01:00:36by the way the commissioner they mentioned it was a great welterweight middleweight that
01:00:40fought louis rodriguez that and louis rodriguez in the garden
01:00:47you put them together until we hit that line deep breath one more time
01:00:55here we go round 11.
01:01:11and right now washington's corner knows this is where it can slip out or this is where you can get it
01:01:15these are two rounds that give you the championship it'd be very hard i have normally ahead 96 to 94.
01:01:22but those last couple rounds were really give and take could be going the other way
01:01:28norris is going to advise him to hang on if he gets in trouble
01:01:36the right hand by washington gets the crowd up on its feet
01:01:46wild miss with the left hand by north combination to the head by washington once again washington
01:01:52but not really having that much effect on north

01:12:25at the end did you think the fight was in jeopardy you needed that last round because he did

01:12:33yeah 11 up there was a very close enough early even then yeah I started to pull on and
01:12:38I guess about 10th round I felt it did real well pull it
01:12:41then the last the last rounds were pretty close and you know I know we had
01:12:44I had to throw just keep throwing punches
01:12:47well we spoke about you being the gatekeeper for the cruiserweights aren't that many cruiserweights around
01:12:50this would be a heck of a fight back again would you fight this guy back again oh sure I'll fight him again you know uh you know it's uh
01:12:58no he's a tough fighter you know and he deserves it
01:13:01all right manage to make the fight how about this fight back again this was a
01:13:05sensational fight this evening let us savor the the deliciousness of this fight
