Can Man Know the Future ?
Transcript
00:00Through discovery, not creation, on the other hand, thinkers like Heraclitus viewed the world
00:06as a place of constant flux and change. You cannot step into the same river twice,
00:12he famously declared, meaning that everything is in a state of continual transformation.
00:19From this perspective, the future does not yet exist, it is shaped by our actions in the present.
00:24Each moment creates the next, and thus the future is an open field of possibilities,
00:30not a preordained path. The tension between these two views, whether the future is fixed
00:37or open, has profound implications for whether we can ever truly know what is to come.
00:43If the future is fixed, then it might be possible, however difficult, to glimpse it.
00:48But if it is open, constantly shifting with every decision, then knowing the future becomes
00:55an impossibility, for the very act of knowing would be possible.
