00:00To begin our exploration of destiny, we must travel back to the ancient world, where the
00:06belief in fate in unalterable course set by the gods or cosmic forces was deeply ingrained.
00:13The Greeks, for instance, believed in the Muirai, or the Fates, three goddesses who
00:19spun, measured, and cut the thread of each person's life.
00:24No mortal or god could escape the fate's designs.
00:27In the Iliad, even mighty Achilles, though warned of his impending doom, cannot escape
00:35his fated death.
00:36For the Greeks, fate was something woven into the universe itself, a law beyond the control
00:43of individuals or even gods.
