The Expanding Universe: A Future Without End?
Transcript
00:00Today the universe continues to expand, a process first discovered by astronomer
00:06Edwin Hubble in the early 20th century. He observed that galaxies are moving
00:12away from each other and the further they are the faster they recede. This
00:17discovery provided strong evidence for the Big Bang Theory and forever changed
00:22our understanding of the cosmos. But what does the future hold for an expanding
00:28universe? Will it continue to grow forever, its galaxies drifting further and
00:33further apart until the stars themselves fade into darkness? Or will the
00:39expansion one day slow, stop and reverse, leading to a collapse of big crunch that
00:46brings everything back to a singularity?
