00:00so we're here at shrewsbury academy it's our chosen school for love your school and we're
00:04here with head teacher mr jim taylor hello sir hello so tell us a little bit about your school
00:10then mr taylor i understand you've um you know you've had some quite large investment there's
00:14been new buildings added and there's a new library on its way tell us a little bit about
00:18you and your school okay so i've been um i've worked in the school since 2019 um i've been
00:23head now for just over a year and the school is is on a really positive journey it's on a really
00:28positive journey a really positive way forward and we have we're a school of just over 800
00:34students uh currently and we are growing so things are going in the right direction from
00:39that perspective and the school is um has just received a massive capital investment from the
00:45department for education which um was in our in our school and to our trust um and that's that's
00:52around 20 million pounds so that money has funded um a steam block which is science technology
00:58engineering arts and maths so we've benefited now from nine new science labs we've benefited from
01:04um a dt facility which is just world class um we've bought a brand new food room we've got a library for
01:13the first time in school for for a good number of years and we now have a um a facility for transition
01:20which we're calling the shore so the shore is in itself a nine million pound uh upgrade on a building
01:26which will be a unique year seven space um from september and we've already begun to implement some
01:32of that this year but the um the intake of year seven students next year in september will have a
01:38unique space for them so around 70 percent of the teaching time will be in that building uniquely they
01:45will exit into the main body of the school for specialist lessons such as science um or pe or or or art in in
01:52in specialist facilities but otherwise their teaching will be in one space uh with their own
01:58restaurants with their own um with their own uh toilets with their own um social spaces and that
02:04that really builds that transition model that's we're looking to achieve in school and we're going
02:09to be checking out some of the pe lads um how's the school doing with your sports teams any good
02:14any successes you have a lot of successes we've uh yeah we've got some uh really good individual
02:20uh successes we've got uh one young man that's running uh currently 5k uh in the in the england
02:26setup um our football teams are are are renowned locally for doing well but uh also the the netball
02:34and various other sports that we run have been fantastic and we run sports clubs before and after
02:39school as well as the main pe offer so the um the the sports before school we have around 150 students
02:46a week coming through before school starts to access fitness and the gym in school and all play football
02:53and even even in in the winter months and you know on a february morning when it's when it's dark we
02:58have um full five-a-side games taking place you know from 7 30 in the morning which is just phenomenal
03:05you know our students tell us wonderful things about the sports departments here and you know
03:11our results mirror that you know it's it's uh it's a subject that the school does very well in and the
03:16students love fantastic well we look forward to meeting some of your wonderful students thank you

03:37and louie what what do you enjoy here particularly subject-wise p.e and science okay yeah what about
03:44p.e then what sort of stuff in p.e you a football man yeah so who do you support live full oh right

04:01that like the teachers do like a lot of videos and they show you what it was like really like
04:05back then and stuff like that okay yeah yeah and any ideas what you want to go on to do i still have
04:09no clue it's difficult isn't it it's difficult to know and yourself um probably art i'd say oh yes
