00:00An exhibition in Taipei is asking residents to prepare for something most would rather not think
00:07about. As part of National Unity Month in July, this air raid preparation exhibition is designed
00:14to teach people that the country's defense is not the sole responsibility of the military.
00:30Taiwan faces both environmental and geopolitical threats. From earthquakes and typhoons to the
00:45growing risk of conflict with China, Beijing has never ruled out using force to take Taiwan.
00:51And Chinese President Xi Jinping has reportedly instructed his military to be ready for an
00:56invasion by 2027. In response, the government is working to raise public awareness of air
01:06defense shelters, where they are and how to use them, as part of broader efforts to prepare for
01:12emergencies.
01:26Exhibit organizers say it may not simply be a matter of seeking shelter. Preparing for an air raid means
01:43packing for an eventuality. On display here are items you'll need in a disaster or during war.
01:49They include the basics such as water and first aid supplies. You'll also need sturdy shoes to guard
01:55against broken glass and a helmet to protect your head. You'll also need things that are less obvious
02:00such as radios and walkie-talkies. These can help you stay in touch with your loved ones in case
02:05satellite links go down. While the exhibition will only run through the rest of July, the government
02:11hopes its lessons will keep the public safe for years to come.
