00:00Senate Republicans passed U.S. President Donald Trump's controversial Big Beautiful bill on
00:07Tuesday. The tax breaks and spending cuts bill powered its way past a fierce opposition from
00:12the Democrats and within the Republican ranks. The bill passed on a tie-break vote cast by Vice
00:18President J.D. Vance after the upper chamber of U.S. Congress was stuck at a 50-50 deadlock.
00:23On this vote, the yeas are 50, the nays are 50. The Senate being evenly divided,
00:30the Vice President votes in the affirmative. The bill as amended is passed.
00:35The majority of disagreements were over Trump's proposed cuts to Medicaid.
00:40The U.S. President wants to cut around $1.2 trillion, largely to Medicaid and food stamps,
00:46which Democrats and a number of Republican lawmakers found alarming.
00:49Senate Democrats say the proposed cuts put millions at risk of losing health care at the
00:54expense of pleasing billionaires. Because of this bill, tens of millions will lose health insurance.
01:01Millions of jobs will disappear. People will get sick and die. Kids will go hungry and the debt
01:10will explode to levels we have never seen. All so that the billionaires and corporate special
01:16interests get a permanent tax break. This bill is so irredeemable that one Republican literally
01:25chose to retire rather than vote yes and decimate his own state. The bill also includes roughly $4.5
01:33trillion in tax cuts, making permanent Trump's 2017 rates in addition to those he campaigned on,
01:39like no taxes on tips and overtime work. Independent financial analysts and accounting firms say the tax
01:46is structured in a way to predominantly benefit the rich. More than a third of the cuts would benefit
01:52households generating an income of approximately half a million dollars annually. The package now
01:57returns to the lower chamber, the House of Representatives, where Speaker Mike Johnson will
02:02race to obtain final approvals to send the bill back to Trump before his July 4th deadline.
02:07Mr. 15.
