00:00Two business groups want Putrajaya to uphold policy continuity and preserve key structural reforms in the revised 13th Malaysia Plan, following the recent resignation of Economy Minister Rafizi Rumley.
00:15The Small and Medium Enterprises Association of Malaysia urged the government to uphold clarity and transparency in the 13 MP overhaul, stressing that both domestic and foreign investor confidence hinges on it.
00:29Samantha President William Ng said business confidence would improve if the revamped 13 MP delivers a sharper focus, substantive structural reforms, and clear long-term direction.
00:41However, he cautioned that a rushed process and excessive politicization of reforms could undermine investor confidence.
00:49Meanwhile, the Malaysian Employers' Federation expressed support for the review, citing recent global developments including U.S. tariffs and the Iran-Israel conflict.
00:59However, it expressed concern over the timing of the revamp, noting that the plan is scheduled to be tabled in Parliament at the end of July.
01:07MEF President Said Hussein Husman said the group was concerned about policy continuity and predictability, as employers need stability for long-term planning, particularly for investment, expansion and hiring decisions.
01:23He added there were concerns that a new economy minister might sideline key initiatives, such as the digital economy, innovation ecosystems, and green economy goals, without clear explanation or sustained commitment.
