00:00Hello, Wendy. What just happened in there?
00:02Oh, it's been an extraordinary afternoon in the chamber.
00:05I mean, already Labour had been making U-turns on this welfare bill.
00:09It started out saving £5 billion, then they made a U-turn,
00:12which brought it down to about £2.5 billion.
00:13And then literally in the chamber this afternoon,
00:15the minister stood up, made an intervention and pulled half of the bill out.
00:20He can't even say now how much it's going to save.
00:23But what is crystal clear is that the government's economic credibility is in tatters
00:27and Keir Starmer's authority is in tatters too.
00:30It feels like Number 10 has lost control of the backbench Labour Party tonight.
00:34I mean, Number 10 has lost control of their backbenchers,
00:36has lost control of the whole of government.
00:38Governments have to be able to make difficult decisions.
00:41It's impossible to see how Keir Starmer will be able to make any difficult decisions in the years ahead.
00:45He cannot control his party.
00:46And actually, you know, it was his fault and Rachel Reeves' fault.
00:49They got themselves into this position.
00:50They brought forward really bad legislation, really inadequate, insufficient savings as well.
00:55And they didn't listen to their backbenchers and they didn't listen to us either.
00:59And they have brought this on themselves.
