00:00Oh no Kitty, we have lost the internet connection.
00:18Oh no!
00:19Hmm, don't worry, I think it will get back in a while.
00:24Hey friends, Kitty and I are sending our Halloween pictures to our friends.
00:29But unfortunately, we lost our internet connection.
00:34And I'm sure you already know how it feels when that happens.
00:40As it's difficult to imagine our lives without the internet nowadays.
00:47Wait a minute, that's an excellent topic to explore.
00:52Hello friends, have you ever wondered what the internet exactly is
00:58and how it works?
01:01I'm sure you did.
01:03So, by the time the internet reconnects, let's search the world of the internet
01:09and learn how it works.
01:12Zoom in!
01:14Well, when I was young, I believed that the internet was some magic trick created
01:21by a secret group of magicians which makes it float through the clouds.
01:28But, when I came across its actual definition, I understood that it is a network that connects millions of computers worldwide.
01:41Hmm, but the important question still remains the same.
01:46How does this magic happen?
01:49Imagine, you and your friend want to share a picture or some other essential document with each other.
01:58And to do so, the first thing you both will need are computers that are connected in a network with the help of the internet.
02:10Then, once you establish this connection, you visit the website using a browser.
02:18Log into your account, type your message or attach the file you wish to send
02:25and finally, when everything is done, you press the send button and voila, it's done!
02:35Sounds easy, right?
02:37Well, what looks so easy at first glance has a complex system working behind it.
02:44Yes, my friends, the messages you send are actually enormous in size and it's very hard for the internet
02:53to carry such a massive packet to its destination.
02:58So, to make it easier, this huge packet is broken down into smaller packages
03:07and then they are moved further to the receiver with the help of an essential device called the router.
03:16And what is a router?
03:18A router is a networking device that helps in the transfer of data packets between computer networks.
03:27In other words, from a sender to the receiver.
03:31But how?
03:32Well, it does with the help of an internet protocol or an IP address.
03:41Oh no!
03:43Now, what's an IP address?
03:45So many technical terms!
03:48Uff!
03:49But, let me explain.
03:52Just like you have your home address,
03:55every server has its unique address called the IP address
04:01that allows a system to be recognized by other systems connected via internet protocol.
04:10When the packets are received by the router,
04:13the router reads the IP address information mentioned on the package
04:18and then sends it to the correct path to reach its destination by following certain rules.
04:26Yes, my friends, just like we have traffic rules to protect us from any accidents,
04:35the internet has some rules and regulations as well called the TCP.
04:43TCP is a set of protocols developed for the internet to get data from one network device to another.
04:53And by following these protocols, the data gets delivered in the best possible way to its destination without any problem and issues.
05:05When these packets finally arrive at the receiver's router,
05:10they are put together according to the instructions and that's how your friend's computer receives your message.
05:18And believe me, all this happens within just a fraction of seconds.
05:24Isn't it really magical, friends?
05:27Trivia time!
05:29Did you know the first ever email was sent in 1971?
05:35Also, it is estimated that 4 billion out of the 7 billion people on Earth are already online.
05:44And thanks to the internet, you can see your most favorite show called
05:50The Dr. Binox Show!
05:55Hope you enjoyed today's episode.
05:57Until next time, it's me, Dr. Binox, Zooming out!
06:05Ah, never mind!
