00:19Time to Beat the Clock
00:21Time for fun has now begun
00:24Let's all play Beat the Clock
00:25Beat the Clock is brought to you by Sylvania
00:28For half a century, a quality name in incandescent bulbs, fluorescent tubes and fixtures, photo lamps, radio and television sets, radio and television tubes, and electronic devices.
00:41Yes, for homes, offices, schools, and factories, Sylvania.
00:47Let's all play beat the clock.
00:50Now here is America's number one clock watcher, Bud Coyard.
00:58Thank you very much, ladies and gentlemen. Thank you.
01:05Welcome once again to Beat the Clock, the show where you can have the time of your life playing against time for big-time prizes.
01:11Come on over here with me. Let's meet our first two contestants. Hi.
01:13Hi.
01:14How are you?
01:14Just fine.
01:15What's your name, may I ask?
01:16This is Luke Allen.
01:17Sergeant and Mrs. Luke Allen. You're a Luke, I take it, huh?
01:20Yes.
01:20How are you, boy? Nice to have you here. How long in the Air Force?
01:24Approximately six years.
01:26Six years. And married how long?
01:27A year last Sunday.
01:28Last Sunday, many happy returns of your anniversary to you.
01:31What'd you do, have a little party?
01:33Sort of.
01:34Did you?
01:34We had a little party here last week on our show, as a matter of fact.
01:36Our bonus went, whoop!
01:37The one that had run higher than ever before was worth $1,000, and a fellow won it.
01:42He said his little four-year-old boy told him how to do it.
01:44It was the one with the pipes, in case those of you didn't watch it.
01:46One with the two pipes, and the trick was to put the two pipes as far apart as you could out this way,
01:50and they just took up all that room between the two balls, and they plopped right in.
01:53In about 15 seconds, he did it.
01:55So tonight, we start a new one at $100,
01:57and you'll find out whenever the bell happens to ring during the show.
02:00Whoever's lucky enough to be at the microphone at that time, get a chance to add a new bonus.
02:03All right.
02:04Now, tonight, as we announced rather hurriedly last week,
02:06because income tax is coming up, which is a good time of year to break dishes,
02:11we thought we'd have an all-cup-and-saucer show.
02:13So that's what we've got tonight.
02:14All the dishes we can think of, and every stunt on tonight's show is nothing but dishes and everything that can happen to them.
02:21So if you've got any of your spode china at home, you want to take it out and play along with us, you go right ahead.
02:26We'd love to have you.
02:26Right now, both of you come over here with me on the $100 clock, if you will.
02:30Ms. Allen, will you step on this side of me right here in back of this black line?
02:34And, Luke, you step on this side in back of the black line.
02:36And here you see we have two stacks of dishes.
02:38Now, they're upside down for a reason, because that's the way we want you to toss them,
02:41one at a time, taking turns.
02:43First your wife, then you, a dish at a time, toss them out there to that card table.
02:48When you have landed, let me see, one, two, three, four dishes on that card table, unbroken.
02:53I don't care which way they happen to wind up, upside down or this way,
02:56but you've got to throw them this way, you understand?
02:57Or the bottom side up.
02:58Four of them unbroken on that table will stop the clock, and you'll beat the clock.
03:02But you do it in rotation.
03:03You do the first one, you throw the next.
03:04You can't throw another one until your husband or wife, as the case may be, is throwing.
03:07Take a look now, if you will, with me at our clock and see how many seconds you have.
03:1145 seconds to get four unbroken plates on that table over there.
03:14Are you ready?
03:15Go.
03:16Ladies first.
03:18Ooh, we've got a lefty here, haven't we, huh?
03:21Ooh, there's one.
03:24There's two.
03:27Ooh, not too often.
03:28Come on, hurry up.
03:29Time's running out on you here.
03:32Got the idea of what he's got on there.
03:35Sorry, now you next.
03:37That's three.
03:39Oh, two more sides.
03:41Go ahead, one for you.
03:42One for you.
03:43Oh.
03:43Oh.
03:45Oh.
03:47All right, we've got three.
03:48Oh, come on.
03:51Hurry up, boy.
03:54Oh.
03:54Come on, keep tossing.
03:55Time's running out on you here.
03:56There's three.
03:58I'll get one more.
04:00Oh, oh, oh, oh.
04:01Come on, boy.
04:03You did it.
04:04Just as the buzzer rang.
04:06Good boy.
04:08That was a closer, wasn't it?
04:10All right.
04:11Now, I'll tell you what, boy, you used up every second you had on that, I'll tell you.
04:20I'll tell you what we're going to do.
04:21Just for the fun of it, we are not going to clean up the broken crockery.
04:24We're going to let it sit right there, all through the show, and see what happens to pile up on our cup and saucer show.
04:30Now, we'll find out what your problem is in the $200 clock in just a moment.
04:33Instead of just watching, if you were playing along, your name could be here.
04:39Log on to gsn.com now.
04:42Now, Sergeant and Mrs. Luke Allen, we got the bonus.
04:46Hey, you get to try the brand new bonus.
04:49How about that, boy?
04:50All right.
04:52Now, let's bring out the bonus, shall we?
04:54Girls, I'll get some of this crockery out of your way here, just a little bit.
04:59Now, you come over here with me, Sergeant.
05:01Come on, boy.
05:03And I'll tell you what we've done.
05:04Just kick it right out of the way, if it's in the way.
05:06What we've done here is we have reversed the psychology of the bonus stunt.
05:09Did you see the one we had that went out last week?
05:11We had two pipes and two ping-pong balls hanging by strings.
05:14The guy had to put the pipes in his mouth to catch one ping-pong ball in the bowl of each pipe.
05:17Now, we've just kind of reversed the psychology here.
05:19Thank you very much, Matt.
05:21And what we want you to do is this, Sergeant.
05:23We're going to ask you to get one of these rubber balls, you see, in this cup over here.
05:27Or you can start with the other one.
05:28I don't care.
05:29And then, if you just kind of study that for me, I'll show you that the other one will reach all the way over to the other cup.
05:35And you have quite a bit of slack in between.
05:36See?
05:37The only difference in the way I did it and the way you do it is that you can't do it the way I did it at all.
05:41You have to hold this with one hand back here.
05:44And staying completely with this, using the one hand, you've got to get the one ball in there and swing the other ball over and get it in there.
05:49If you knock the cups off, we replace as fast as the cups go off.
05:52Do you understand?
05:53Do that in how many seconds?
05:54Let's take a look.
05:5645 seconds is worth $100 cash bonus to you, boy.
05:59Take a hold of it in one hand.
06:00Do you understand what you have to do?
06:02Are you ready?
06:02Go.
06:03Go.
06:09Move up a little.
06:10Stand back this far.
06:17Oh, replace that one.
06:19Okay.
06:19Okay.
06:22Oh, brother.
06:39Get another one up there quick.
06:40You only got 10 seconds left.
06:41Go.
06:41That's all right, Matt.
06:42Go to bed.
06:42Chance, because it's, oh, dear, I'm sorry you didn't beat the clock.
06:52The clock beats you.
06:53Be worth $200 next week with a good try, do you, Sarge?
06:56And as I told you, that was really a bonus.
06:58You didn't lose your thing by that one.
07:04You both come over here with me.
07:07Okay.
07:08That was, as I said, you go right on to your $200 clock.
07:10Anyway, that just would have been something extra.
07:12Do you ever have any trouble washing clothes at home?
07:14Yes, I do.
07:15You have a washing machine?
07:16Yes.
07:16You have?
07:17We have a real good washing machine, and this is for washing dishes.
07:20Now, maybe they can adapt the same principle to clothes.
07:22You come over here with me.
07:23Bring out our dishwashing machine, will you?
07:26This is a special dishwashing machine.
07:28And, Sergeant, would you step right up back there and have a seat on that little stool right back there?
07:33And Betty's got a shower cap for you.
07:35And then you slide up right in between here, because we'll show you what it is you have to do.
07:39Come up close to me, Miss Allen, so I can show you what your problem is, and the girls will take this.
07:43Can you get by there, Betty?
07:44I'm sorry.
07:45There you are.
07:45Now, here are some dishes, you see?
07:49And over there is the dish dryer, you know, the thing you put to drain the dishes out.
07:53And your husband's going to help you wash these dishes.
07:55There are three of them.
07:56Three cups is all we want washed.
07:57Now, what he's going to do is pick up these cups one at a time, hold them out here for you, and you squirt some soap on them.
08:03The soap happens to be whipped cream.
08:05So you squirt that soap.
08:06You're going to stand out in there.
08:07You get them covered with soap.
08:08Then you immediately turn around and pick up one of the water bottles over there and squirt it with water until it's rinsed off.
08:12Then you turn around and drop it over there.
08:14Come right back and pick up another one.
08:15Do the same thing with all three cups, and we'll stop the clock, and you'll beat the clock.
08:18The only difference is you can't use your hands.
08:21You have to pick these up with your teeth, you see?
08:23And you sit there holding them just like that.
08:24Get the idea?
08:25All right.
08:26That's all you have to do.
08:26Get all three soaked and rinsed, and we'll stop the clock, and you'll beat the clock.
08:29Step right down there, if you will, in between the two.
08:31I'll take a look at the clock, see how many seconds you have.
08:34You have 50 seconds.
08:35Do you know how to work those things?
08:36Do you know how?
08:37You aim them, you see, like this, and you just press on this little, and that's what happens.
08:41Get the idea?
08:42Okay.
08:42Aim it at him, though.
08:43Are you ready?
08:44Pick up a cup when I say go.
08:45Go.
08:47Hold it up in the middle.
08:49Oh, not a few.
08:52Hold it.
08:52Put that one down.
08:53Try not...
08:53No, wait a minute.
08:53Wait a minute.
08:54I know what you're doing.
08:54You got whipped cream all over you.
08:56That's the first time that ever happened.
08:56Turn around, take a look at the order, and show them what happened to her.
09:04See?
09:05Hold it on the side like that, and it goes out like that.
09:10Whoa!
09:11Come on, I'll take it.
09:20Okay.
09:20Okay.
09:26Put it over in the drain and stop the clock.
09:49Come on, here.
09:50Take the picture, will you?
09:51Well, now, so maybe you took a picture for you.
09:58We'll have a record for you.
09:59We hope after the show.
10:00You can mop...
10:00I'm awful sorry you got some...
10:02We had no idea that any of that would back up on you.
10:04Believe me.
10:05It's never happened before.
10:07You can wipe it off.
10:08You got some on your nose on the side and the other side.
10:10That's it.
10:11You can get it cleaned up.
10:11I'll tell you what.
10:12Right now, in back of you, we have our famous magnetic jackpot board.
10:16If you will step up on this little platform while we're getting your husband cleaned off,
10:18turn around and face the audience, and don't turn back again until I tell you to.
10:22Back of that curtain, we have one of our famous sayings or quotations.
10:25Now, the words are all there, but they're all mixed up.
10:27They're all out of order.
10:28Your job is to move them around on the board until they spell out the saying or quotation
10:32where after all this, in 20 seconds from the time I say go.
10:34Now, don't look till I tell you to.
10:36Open the curtain.
10:38Take a look.
10:40Go.
10:41Go.
10:41Go.
10:41Go.
10:41Go.
10:41Go.
10:41Go.
10:43Go.
10:43Go.
10:45Go.
10:45Go.
10:45Go.
10:46Go.
10:47Go.
10:47Go.
10:48Go.
10:48No, no, no.
10:57It's not quite right.
10:59Not quite right.
11:00I'm sure you got the sense of it.
11:01Oh, golly, I'm sorry you didn't beat the clock.
11:03You can't teach an old dog new tricks is what it should have been.
11:09But it's all right because you didn't beat our jackpot clock, but you beat our $200 clock.
11:13So let's see what you want.
11:15A beautiful sectional sofa from the Shaw Manufacturing Company, two versatile pieces scaled to average
11:22room size with hair-filled construction for luxurious comfort, exemplifying the very best
11:27in Shaw craftsmanship.
11:28Congratulations, Sergeant and Mrs. Allen, you have just won a beat-the-clock prize worth more than $200.
11:33My congratulations to you, too.
11:35Let's enjoy it.
11:36Let's enjoy it.
11:37Let's enjoy it.
11:38We'll find you happy.
11:41Roxanne, who do we have now?
11:43So do we have Mr. and Mrs. Ross Diffenderfer from Randallstown, Maryland.
11:47Mr. and Mrs. Allen.
11:48Boy, I'm telling you, I bet you'll have a job with that one over the telephone, don't you, huh?
11:51I think that's the longest name we ever had on the show.
11:54D-I-F-F-E-N-D-E-R-F-F-E-R.
11:57Right.
11:58They might have at least dropped a few F's there on the way, shouldn't they, Ross, huh?
12:01Diffenderfer, that's a German name, isn't it?
12:03German, yes, uh-huh.
12:04And you live in Randallstown, Maryland.
12:06What do you do, Ross?
12:07I'm in the real estate business, bud.
12:08Have your own place, or do you work?
12:09I'm in with my family, yes.
12:10Yeah, it's nice to be in with the family.
12:12You're married how long?
12:13Eight years.
12:14Have any children?
12:15One.
12:16Little girl, six.
12:17Six?
12:18You looked at the camera as though you said I promised her I'd waved to her, did you?
12:19Mm-hmm.
12:20Well, you got on the show and you did.
12:21You waved to her.
12:22Right on that camera there.
12:23You want to say anything to her?
12:24Don't just wave.
12:25Hi, Sue.
12:26Hi, Susie.
12:27How are you?
12:28You keep your fingers crossed for mom and pop now, you hear?
12:29All right, as we told you at the start, this is an all-cup-and-saucer night.
12:31If you ever felt like breaking them, you can break them right on this show.
12:33So, let's see what your problem is going to be.
12:35It happens to be for you.
12:36So, Mrs. Diffendorfer, if you will come over here with me all by yourself, I'll show you
12:40what your problem is.
12:42Now, we have here three cups, you see?
12:44One of which I want you to hold in your left hand, the other in your right hand.
12:48Now, you may not use the two hands to help each other, but what I want you to do is to
12:52scoop this remaining cup up into this cup without helping with this hand so that you wind
12:56up with it up like that, you see?
12:58When you've got that one, we'll have another one on there for you.
13:00Same thing with the left hand.
13:01When you've got two cups scooped up, we'll stop the clock and you'll beat the clock.
13:04Get the idea?
13:05Okay, that's all you have to do now.
13:06Take this one in your right hand, and take this one in your left hand, and we'll replace
13:11them as fast as they break.
13:12Meantime, let's take a quick peek at the Sylvania clock and see how many seconds.
13:14You have 50.
13:15Are you ready?
13:16Go!
13:25Scoop.
13:26You have to scoop.
13:27That's really scooping.
13:28Get underneath.
13:29It's the bottom of it.
13:30It's the bottom of it.
13:31It's the bottom of it.
13:32Up.
13:33Right.
13:34Put another one up there.
13:35Really scooping.
13:36All right.
13:37You got one.
13:38Shut down!
13:39Oh, boy.
13:40I don't know.
13:41I don't know.
13:42I don't know whether I can read expressions well, but I looked over to your husband a couple
13:51of times.
13:52Looked at me like he was saying, that's impossible.
13:54That's impossible.
13:55This can't be done.
13:56Were you thinking that, Mr. Diffenderfer?
13:57That's fine.
13:58I'll bet you are.
13:59All right.
14:00Well, now, we're going to find out what your next problem is right off the bat.
14:04Now, Mr. and Mrs. Diffenderfer, cups and saucers again, and away we go.
14:07And I think you'd better take your coat off for this one, if you don't mind, sir.
14:10Do you mind?
14:11Yes, sir.
14:12You haven't got any galluses on you don't want us to see?
14:14Hang it up right on that hook over there, if you will, please.
14:16And if you'll both come over here with me, enjoy what we're going to have now for the
14:19$200 clock.
14:20Mrs. Diffenderfer, you may have a seat right here on this stool and face over this way,
14:24where your husband is going to be standing in this box.
14:26Will you step in it and face your wife, please, being careful not to move its position.
14:29That's the idea.
14:30Now, I'm going to ask you to give you something so that you don't fall backwards when you reach
14:34forward.
14:35If you will, put this over your head, and over your arms, and up under your arms.
14:38That's it, on both sides.
14:39There we are.
14:40Now, lean into that, because you'll have to.
14:42And you, Mrs. Diffenderfer, will you take one of those saucers off that table?
14:46Now, reach out and hand it to your husband.
14:48I want to see how close the stool is.
14:50Well, it should be just a little farther away, so if you'll get up just a minute.
14:54Let's try that now, shall we?
14:56Now, you reach out.
14:57See, I advise you to hang onto the back of the stool so you don't fall off.
15:00Can you reach it?
15:01All right, that's fine.
15:02Okay, now that's all you have to do.
15:03You hand one saucer to your husband, and you hold it like that.
15:06You may only use one hand.
15:07See?
15:08Then you put a cup on the saucer, then a saucer on the cup, and then a cup on the saucer.
15:13Do you understand the problem?
15:14That's the way it goes.
15:15And then, you do that with three of them until you have three cups and saucers stacked up.
15:18We'll stop the clock, and you'll beat the clock.
15:20Now, there's one little extra gimmick.
15:22First, let's take a look at the clock, see how many seconds you have.
15:24Fifty-five, and now you'll throw that little clip.
15:27That's the idea.
15:28Okay.
15:29Great job, now.
15:30Get in the saucer and the cup.
15:31Go!
15:32Hold it.
15:33Hold it.
15:34Stop the clock.
15:35Look where it's going here.
15:36This will never be.
15:37Hold it.
15:38Hold it.
15:39Stop the clock.
15:40We're having trouble here all the time.
15:41I'm going to let you start with where you were right then.
15:42But this thing is just falling down on you.
15:43If you'll turn it off just a minute, Madeline.
15:44I'll tell you what we'll do to make it stay where it belongs.
15:45Do you mind just stepping out of that just a second?
15:46I'm going to move it right about there.
15:47Now, I can step back in there.
15:48Now, you'll find you kind of have to lean into it, which will sort of keep you balanced,
15:49don't you, huh?
15:50All right.
15:51Lean forward in with it.
15:52Give it out of your arms.
15:53Get ready.
15:54Go!
15:55All right.
15:56Stop the clock.
15:57It's for you.
15:58Go, James.
15:59Come on!
16:00Good.
16:01Good.
16:02All right.
16:03Good.
16:04Good.
16:05Good.
16:06Good.
16:07Good.
16:08You're good.
16:09Good.
16:10Good.
16:11Good.
16:12Good.
16:13Good.
16:14Good.
16:15Good.
16:16Good.
16:17Good.
16:18Good.
16:19Good.
16:20Good.
16:21Good.
16:22Good.
16:23Good.
16:24Good.
16:25I'll tell you, that moved you through to 200 o'clock, boy.
16:31I'm telling you, you held that steadier than any of us did.
16:33We were trying this afternoon, and the thing was going.
16:35And I'll tell you another thing.
16:36None of us got up as high as four, except once or twice.
16:39You did the most anybody did.
16:40I asked you for three.
16:41You didn't remember it.
16:42You went on and stacked four.
16:43So you got a little plus there.
16:45All right, now, visit him and offer it your turn to step up on this platform.
16:48Turn around, face the audience.
16:50And, Ross, you can't help in any way.
16:51Would you step down over there?
16:52Just think good thoughts about your wife.
16:53In the back of that curtain is our jackpot board.
16:55You may have seen it, and on it are all the words of a famous saying or quotation,
16:58but they're all out of order.
16:59You've got to get them back in order in 20 seconds
17:01to spell out the saying or quotation word after using all the words that are there.
17:03Now, don't look till I tell you to.
17:05Open the curtain.
17:07Turn around and take a look.
17:11Go.
17:20Just move around, quick, as soon as you got it.
17:25Oh, golly, I'm sure you know it.
17:34You probably just got a little fussed here.
17:36Look, here's what it happens to be.
17:37It happens to be to be or not to be.
17:42That is the question.
17:46To be or not to be, that is the question from Hamlet.
17:49But that's all right.
17:50You didn't beat our jackpot clock, but you've beaten the $200 clock.
17:53Ross, come on back in here while we show you both what you've won.
17:56From the King Refrigerator Corporation,
18:00a compact four-cubic-foot freezer,
18:02which holds up to 150 pounds of frozen food.
18:05Your King freezer, which is worth its weight in cold,
18:08will save you time and money.
18:10Congratulations, Mr. and Mrs. Diffidiffer.
18:12You've just won a beat-the-clock prize worth more than $200.
18:15That's it.
18:16It was a pleasure having you here.
18:19Goodbye.
18:24Roxanne, whom do we have now?
18:26We have Mr. and Mrs. Lewis Benzon from Andalusia, Pennsylvania.
18:29Well, thank you very much.
18:30Mr. and Mrs. Benson, how are you?
18:31And welcome to our show, Andalusia, Pennsylvania.
18:34May I ask what that's near?
18:35Pull it off.
18:36Is that a large suburb or a...
18:37It's a small one.
18:39You've been married ten years, I see.
18:40You have three children?
18:41Yes.
18:41That's what I've got.
18:42What have you got, two boys and a girl?
18:43Three girls.
18:44Three girls.
18:45I had two girls and then a boy.
18:46Well, what, did you promise your kids you'd wave, did you, if you got home?
18:49Yes, we did.
18:49Well, you keep your promise.
18:51Don't break it.
18:51Wave it at that camera right there.
18:52That's the idea.
18:54Come on, say hello to them.
18:55Hi.
18:55What are the names?
18:56Bunny, Judy, and Carol.
18:57Bunny, Judy, and which is Bunny?
18:59The people on the left, yes.
19:01She's grown, hasn't she?
19:02I think she has.
19:04Go to bed, kids, after the show.
19:05Don't stay up too late.
19:06Incidentally, since you welcomed your kids, I'd like to welcome some new friends of ours, if I may.
19:10We have a couple of new stations that we're adding.
19:13WKBN-TV in Youngstown, Ohio.
19:15Awful nice to have you with us.
19:16I hope you enjoy it as much as we do.
19:17And the same message goes down, way down to Lubbock, Texas.
19:20K-D-U-B-TV, which joined us two weeks ago.
19:23We didn't catch up with you until tonight.
19:24We're awful sorry.
19:25Thanks for being with us.
19:26Have a good time.
19:27We're certainly enjoying having you with us.
19:29All right, let's go along now, Mr. and Ms. Benson.
19:33And again, we have a husband and wife problem.
19:35Cups and saucers tonight, remember?
19:36When that March 15th rolls around, you can break all you want.
19:39Remember what fun you had on the show.
19:40Both of you come over here with me, will you?
19:42Ms. Benson, if you'll stand right there.
19:44And Mr. Benson, if you'll stand right back here facing the audience.
19:47Madeline's going to give you a pool cue, which you must hold in one hand at the end down there.
19:51Okay?
19:52Betty is going to give you a supply of cups.
19:54And your job is simply to, one at a time, balance these on that little stake.
19:58Once you have balanced one there, your husband's job is using only this pool cue to get it off that stake
20:04and wind it up, up on the cue like that.
20:07Got the idea?
20:08Using only the one hand, using Noah to help in any way.
20:10If he drops and breaks it, replace another one right away.
20:13Take a look over his shoulder and see how many seconds you've got.
20:1530 seconds to get just one.
20:16Are you ready?
20:17Go!
20:18Go!
20:25Oh!
20:25Don't take your nose off in the front desk.
20:29Good ball!
20:29Oh!
20:29Oh!
20:30Oh!
20:30Oh!
20:30Oh!
20:30Oh!
20:30Oh!
20:31Oh!
20:31Oh!
20:31I thought you had it, boy.
20:34All right!
20:35That's a try!
20:36You see, there again, Ms. Benson, you said, when I said what you had to do, you were saying
20:47to yourself, it can't be done, didn't you, huh?
20:48I did.
20:49Well, we proved you were wrong about it.
20:50Well, that got you through the first turtle, the $100 clock, more cups and saucers on the
20:54$200 clock, which will be rolling up here right away.
20:56Do you guys have that comedy with what...
20:58If you were playing along, your name could be here.
21:01Log on to gsn.com now.
21:03All right, Mr. and Ms. Benson, come on out here for the $200 clock and we'll show you
21:07what this one entails.
21:07Ms. Benson, will you take a hold of this little piece of wood here with one hand up at this
21:11end.
21:11Mr. Benson, will you step at the other end and take a hold of that end and keep diagonally
21:14up this way so we can see a little bit better.
21:17Now, we have here two cups.
21:18I'm going to place them in the center of this stick.
21:20Only one hand is all you can hold it by, Mr. Benson.
21:22And between the two of you, you have to slide these cups one way and then the other,
21:26winding up with one cup in that little sack there and the other cup in that little
21:30sack.
21:30If you drop a cup and break it, we'll get two fresh ones and start all over again.
21:34In other words, that's the penalty for dropping any of them.
21:36Do you understand the problem, do you?
21:37Take a look at the clock, see how many seconds you have this time.
21:4055.
21:40Are you ready?
21:41Go.
21:41Go.
21:58There's one.
22:00All right.
22:11All right.
22:11That's it.
22:14Well done.
22:16Come on, Mr. Benson.
22:17Come back over here.
22:18Good boy.
22:19Now, a few seconds.
22:20We have to go back on the end of the back to get up on this platform.
22:23There comes now our jackpot board.
22:26All right.
22:26If you'll turn around, take a look at the audience, and don't turn back till I tell you
22:28to in back of that curtain is our jackpot board with all the words of a famous saying
22:31or quotation, but they're all mixed up.
22:33You've got to get them unmixed in 20 seconds from the time I say go so we can read the saying
22:37or quotation.
22:37All right?
22:38Now, don't look till I tell you to.
22:39Open the curtain.
22:42Turn around and take a look.
22:46Go.
22:46Long time's running out there.
22:57Only 10 more seconds.
23:05Oh.
23:05Yeah, I'm sorry.
23:08I'm afraid the clock beats you.
23:09You can't think too clear, can you, when you're up there?
23:11God's in his heaven.
23:16All's right with the world.
23:20God's in his heaven.
23:21All's right with the world.
23:22Step back down here, though, and come on back up here, Lewis, because we're going to show
23:25you what you won on the $200 clock.
23:28Look over here.
23:28A Speed Queen automatic deluxe console ironer, which has a two-speed motor and dual thermostat
23:35controls.
23:36As you sit comfortably relaxed and feed the pieces in, your Speed Queen ironer does all
23:40the work.
23:41Congratulations, Mr. and Mrs. Benson.
23:43You have just won a beat the clock prize worth more than $200.
23:46My congratulations to you, too.
23:48Good job.
23:48Good job.
23:49Good job.
23:50Nice to meet you.
23:52That's it.
23:53What do we have now?
23:55Brad, this is Mr. and Mrs. Donald Conklin from Teaneck, New Jersey.
23:58Mr. and Mrs. Conklin of Teaneck, New Jersey.
24:00You're a cabinetmaker married two years.
24:02I see you on your card, right?
24:03When was your anniversary?
24:04Today.
24:05Today is your anniversary.
24:06Many happy returns to you, and to you, too, Don.
24:09Many, many more of them.
24:11Now, our time is running a little closer.
24:12Let's get you right into the next of our cup and saucer things.
24:14Come over here with me, if you will, please, and I'll show you what you have on the $100
24:17clock.
24:18Now, if you will step right over there, Miss Conklin, and take that shovel from Betty.
24:22Madeline will put the other dish down here, that one there.
24:24There are two larger dishes.
24:25You have to hold these snow shovels upside down.
24:27Do you get the idea?
24:28Each of you hold them this way, and using only the shovels, you are to get one of these
24:32dishes on each of these shovels, so that they are sitting on the bottom of the shovel
24:36upside down like that.
24:38You may only use the shovels, but you may help each other all you wish.
24:41Well, that was a long explanation for nothing.
24:43Our time has run out.
24:44Now, how about it?
24:45Can you folks come back next week?
24:46Can you?
24:47Well, you'll be our first contestants at that time.
24:49Get yourselves a couple of snow shovels and break some of your dishes at home.
24:53Thank you very much, ladies and gentlemen.
24:54Don't forget, we'll be with you next week at the same time, but not so many cups and
24:57sauces, I'm afraid.
24:59And this is Bud Collier speaking for Sylvania, hoping that next time may be your time to beat
25:03the clock.
25:04Good night, everybody.
25:04Thank you, everybody.
25:34Trouble or nothing.
25:36Over and moose.
