00:00So, it has happened, the Jalen Ramsey trade happened, and then it's not like what you
00:06thought it was going to be, which, you know, it was like, oh, a fourth round draft pick
00:11and a couple of pick swaps, like this has turned into something pretty wild.
00:17So, Jalen Ramsey goes to Pittsburgh, and so does Jonu Smith, by the way.
00:21What Pittsburgh is putting together is something else, man.
00:26They think they've got their window, and they are going for it.
00:30They have one hellified roster, if you think the quarterback position is part of the hellified
00:38roster, but Jonu Smith, Jalen Ramsey, they go to Pittsburgh, Minka Fitzpatrick is a dolphin
00:48again, and then there were a couple of pick swaps as well.
00:52Here's just a couple of the reactions on Twitter.
00:55Armando Salguero said, gotta say, and Dolphins fans will not agree, but Chris Greer turned
01:03a terrible situation in which everyone knew he had to trade Ramsey and gets back a younger
01:11player, the organization, minus Brian Flores, loved years ago and is salvaging the situation
01:19the Dolphins could be winning.
01:22Now, I don't know if that's the prevailing thought.
01:25I haven't looked at much of social media, and I haven't listened to any of sports radio.
01:31The part that annoys me is the Jonu Smith portion of it, because essentially you traded
01:36Jonu Smith and Jalen Ramsey for Minka Fitzpatrick.
01:40So that's really the nuts and bolts of the deal.
01:43A couple of things.
01:46Eric Lawson, your former producer on the Coop and Crowder show, tweeted out, Tua and Minka
01:55doing interviews together, bleeping on Brian Flores.
01:58That I'm looking forward to.
02:00I am totally down with that, Lawson.
02:02That's going to happen, and I'm totally down with that.
02:05Um, there was Adam Schefter.
02:09This is a little worrying.
02:11Jalen Ramsey is now the fourth Dolphins captain from last season, no longer on the team in
02:172025, joining Teron Armstead, Calais Campbell, and David Long Jr.
02:22Now, you may say, hey, the team was no good, and there were a lot of issues behind the scenes,
02:28so it's great to get rid of all the captains.
02:30The only thing I would say is, though, those captains were quality guys, so maybe it is
02:37so out of control at the Dolphins organization, even guys like Teron Armstead and Calais Campbell,
02:43who you would imagine have a ton of respect and are just quality guys.
02:47I don't know much about David Long Jr., but I do think that might be the warning sign that,
02:55hey, there were some quality captains there, and they're gone.
03:00Um, and then there was Raheem Mostert, who happens to be a real quality dude.
03:06I love Raheem Mostert.
03:08He tweeted out, hot take, be a pro bowler on the Dolphins, get treated like bleep.
03:16Happy for my guys, though.
03:17Go ball out.
03:20First off, you get one of the top three safeties in the world back,
03:24and I don't know if I know Jonu and, you know, Jonu and Jalen are guaranteed starters.
03:30They're great players.
03:31Jalen Ram is the first ballot Hall of Famer.
03:33You know, Jonu had a good end of the season last year.
03:36The captain thing, I don't like to look into stuff that deep about the captain
03:40because it's really, you know, the players vote on it.
03:43It's usually guys, older guys on the team, the ones that's been around and all that,
03:46you know, Calais and Teron.
03:48But all the stories that have come out over the last year or two,
03:53I would say the captaincy of that team wasn't that strong and the guys didn't respect it.
03:58We talked about it.
03:59The coming late thing and all that, you don't come on time for Mike McDaniel.
04:03You come on time for your leaders.
04:05And those guys didn't give a damn about what Teron and Calais and David Long,
04:09who got cut in midseason, which is crazy, Sid.
04:11And so I think we're not doing too much looking into the thing about all the captains being gone.
04:17And then Raheem Oster's right.
04:18He balled out the Dolphins and they're going to try to use you as an entity, which you already are.
04:22But hold on a second.
04:24And I love Raheem too.
04:25Hawk, you know, part of the best Dolphins team in my lifetime, probably.
04:29But correct me if I'm wrong.
04:31Jalen Ramsey, Tyree Kill, Tua Tunga-Vailoa, Jalen Waddle all played like pro bowlers a couple seasons ago.
04:38And Chris Queer threw them a ton of money.
04:40See, Jalen Ramsey wanted, I assume, to get paid a little bit more.
04:45Or maybe he just wasn't thrilled with the direction of this organization.
04:48Maybe there was something behind the scenes.
04:49We know that.
04:50He got $1.5 million more from the Pittsburgh Steelers for this upcoming season than he would have made in Miami.
04:58That's significant enough to where he's going to throw a tirade and force a deal.
05:02No, he just clearly didn't want to be here.
05:04Chris Queer and the Dolphins gave all these guys their money.
05:07Maybe not Raheem Mostert, sorry.
05:08If you're 30 years old, become a pro bowl, you're not going to get paid.
05:13I totally agree with you.
05:14I know why Mostert felt that way, obviously.
05:17He had one of the best seasons a back has ever had for the Dolphins and wasn't rewarded for it, right?
05:24Was he cut the next season?
05:25Correct.
05:26His playing time diminished, and then he was gone.
05:29He let the league in rushing touchdowns, and they gave up on him the next year after a couple fumbles.
05:34I get why he's upset, but he is incorrect.
05:37They have taken care of their pro bowlers probably better than they should have been,
05:42and they wouldn't be in the mess that they're in.
05:44And regardless, I think that's more of a story as to what is going on behind the scenes there when a quality dude like Raheem Mostert,
05:56because you don't hear him talk that way about anything.
05:58That's not his personality normally.
06:00So, he got a chance here to bleep on the organization.
06:05He took it.
06:05I got no problem with that, because I thought that they jettisoned him a little too early.
06:10I thought that was a little cutesy on their part.
06:13But regardless, I don't agree with his assertion that, you know, if you're a pro bowler, you get treated like bleep,
06:20because I think you got rewarded.
06:22Like, Solana gave you the examples.
06:24Like, guys got rewarded for having great seasons.
06:27They ended up drawing the line with Jonu Smith.
06:30Jonu Smith, they drew the line.
06:32I don't know what Jalen Ramsey wanted.
06:35Obviously, they were at loggerheads about something, because I'm with you.
06:38To leave Miami to go to Pittsburgh for a million and a half dollars more
06:41doesn't seem like it was a $10 million standstill that they were at.
06:46Jonu was about money.
06:48Jonu was in the 30s, 30th paid tight end.
06:51He was a pro bowler.
06:52It was about money for him.
06:54Jalen wanted to leave.
06:55Even to the time it happened, they still had negotiation time.
06:59We heard he wanted to leave multiple, you know, agreeing to part ways.
07:03That was in the middle of the summer sometime, early summer, where he didn't want to be here anymore.
07:08So is Raheem a little butthurt, as they say?
07:11Yes.
07:12But is there a problem with the captaincy and the leadership on this team?
07:16I think both could be true, and I think that's a yes as well.
07:19On paper, I understand why a Dolphins fan would look at today and say, hold on a second.
07:23We traded our best cornerback, probably our only cornerback before the Minka trade, right?
07:29Our only DB who is good.
07:32I mean, go look at the rest of the DBs.
07:34Like, it's a scary sight.
07:35And the most productive part of our offense a season ago, and all we got back was a fifth
07:41round pick for next season and another starting safety and Minka Fitzpatrick.
07:46Like, we essentially got Minka for two of our best players.
07:48And on the surface, I understand why that's confusing.
07:51But Hawk and Crowder, we've talked about this several times now.
07:54Chris Greer did not approach this offseason with a bleep you mentality.
07:58I'm going all in to win.
08:00And I think he needs to be applauded for that.
08:04I mean, as much as I have my gripes with Chris Greer, like he's trying to set this team up,
08:11whether he's here or not, to have a better opportunity to compete and to add pieces in the future.
08:19And I think that's something that needs to be applauded because this trade aligns with that thinking.
08:24He's not going all in.
08:25He traded for a 28-year-old.
08:27I don't necessarily think that's true.
08:29First of all, I think Minka's got one year left on his contract, so I'm not necessarily certain
08:33how much you're preparing for the future with him.
08:36Jalen wanted out.
08:37Chris Greer had no choice in the matter.
08:39So his hands were tied.
08:41It's kind of what Armando Salguero tweeted there is like, here's a guy he knew he had to trade him,
08:46ended up with something good for at least a season.
08:49But I'm not necessarily certain what you're saying rings true to me.
08:52I like Chris Greer, but I don't think he's putting together building blocks.
08:57I think he's trying to keep a ship together that he had already built without it completely
09:03falling apart.
09:04The way I see it is he's kind of doing this right now because so many pieces like Calais
09:11Campbell and Teron Armstead and then Jalen Ramsey, you know, and it was like, okay, I mean,
09:17where can I, where can I stem the, the leaking here?
09:20And he had no choice with Jalen Ramsey ends up getting someone decent in return.
09:24There's no question, but I don't think he's setting up for the future.
09:27But Solana, do you, do you applaud somebody for solving a problem?
09:31They caused he, he, and to, to, to, to Hawks analogy, he shot the cannon through the side
09:37of the boat and now he's passing up the hole.
09:39Oh, thanks.
09:40Chris Greer.
09:40You're a pit.
09:41He shot the damn cannon.
09:42You shouldn't accept the cannon.
09:43He put all those bad contracts.
09:45The ones you brought up, he shouldn't have paid Tyreek and Waddle both $30 million a year.
09:50He re-upped Tua a year later, could have done earlier, saved more money.
09:53A lot of his mistakes.
09:55Now he has to backpedal off of them.
09:57And also the organization has vets that are unhappy being here.
10:01Jalen Ramsey.
10:01And I think if Calais Campbell's time with the Dolphins was different, I think he would
10:08have not went back to Arizona.
10:09I think he would have ended his career here if he thought that the Dolphins organization
10:12had a chance to win something.
10:13But that's my, that's, I think where I'm operating from.
10:16By the way, Omar Kelly texted me that Minka has two years left on his deal, but he'll
10:19probably want a restructured deal because there's no more guaranteed money left.
10:24But here's what I don't say, don't say, and we just have a safety Minka Fitzpatrick
10:28on the top three safeties in the world.
10:29Well, he's coming off and, and look, who knows what happens?
10:32He's 28 years old.
10:33He's coming off statistically his worst season last year.
10:36That doesn't mean he's going to be bad.
10:37That doesn't mean there's a precipitous drop off.
10:39He could have a bounce back year next year.
10:41Like I'm sure there's a lot of context behind it, but that's a fact.
10:44He's coming off his worst statistical year last year, but here's where I'm operating
10:48from as far as Chris Greer and why I had that take coming into this year.
10:53Correct me if I'm wrong.
10:53It was Chris Greer, Mike McDaniel for their lives, for their careers, potentially Chris
11:00Greer, certainly right.
11:01This season is literally is going to decide whether or not they will keep their jobs next
11:07season.
11:07When you're entering a season like that, you put everything you possibly have, every resource
11:14into this season.
11:17And I don't believe Chris Greer, and it may end up costing them is operating the franchise
11:22that way.
11:24And I think in what, like, why wouldn't he be that?
11:27That's a, it's a critical take by you.
11:29Like what would they have done?
11:31Well, what would they have done that they haven't done?
11:33Like, what did they pass on?
11:34You, you, you trade some of your draft assets prior to this NFL draft to try to go get some
11:40veteran guys to try to bolster your defense.
11:44But what I'm saying is who's to say that they didn't try to do that.
11:47Like, it's possible.
11:48It's possible.
11:49I think you're creating something that, that just, it doesn't exist.
11:52I believe that they would do anything.
11:55Now, I think it's coming from above them.
11:58No more renegotiating contracts.
12:00If we've just done the contract a year ago.
12:04Something along those lines that would lead me to believe what went on with Jonu Smith,
12:08right?
12:08Because he did have the most productive offensive season that you could ask.
12:13But I think my guest, Steven Ross was tired of that.
12:16Like, Hey, anytime.
12:17So like, I don't want to set this precedent that that's all we do.
12:20Jalen Ramsey went deeper, obviously, and he wanted out, but I, I don't, I, I don't believe
12:28that Chris Greer is knowingly playing some sort of long game.
12:33I think Chris Greer is playing the hand that he dealt himself.
12:36And by the way, I've been a supporter of, I, I, I like him.
12:40I was the guy at the, at the end of the season who said, yeah, keep McDaniel, keep Greer, keep
12:45Tua.
12:45I like our big three and I still feel that way, but I don't think he's doing anything
12:50where you're like, wow, look at him.
12:53He is setting them up.
12:54Like, I don't think so at all.
12:56I think that guy would take anyone or anybody who wanted to play here.
13:00And if he was forced, like he was with Jalen to get rid of him, he did.
13:05And I will tell you again with Jalen, I kind of agree with Armando Salguero.
13:09I was expecting, oh, he got a fourth round pick in return for Jalen Ramsey.
13:14That's a bummer, but that's what the market bears.
13:16He ended up getting Minka Fitzpatrick, the Jonu Smith thing.
13:20My expectation was it was going to be a holdout or something of the sort, because I didn't see
13:25them budging because I don't think they're going to give someone an extension who had one
13:31good season.
13:32I think they're done with that.
13:34So I didn't, I, I expected more of a holdout situation.
13:37They're not going to budge.
13:38And Jonu, who's his agent?
13:40Is it Drew Rosenhouse?
13:41Yes.
13:42He's not going to budge.
13:44And so instead they also had to give up Jonu Smith.
13:47That's going to be a bummer.
13:48But if they bring in Kyle Pitts, I wouldn't be upset.
13:51Like, I feel like you could, uh, you could make something good out there.
13:56So they'll obviously be in the market for a tight end and, uh, we'll see what happens.
14:00And I do believe they're trying to change their, uh, their team thought, I guess they're,
14:08their assumption of what they are.
14:10There's, you know, the soft team that pays everybody.
14:12I think they're trying to change that with their additions in the draft, a thousand pounds
14:16of man in the first three rounds.
14:18Everybody said they're soft, which I agree.
14:20They're a very graceful team.
14:22Changing that, changing that narrative of it.
14:24You are not going to be soft upstairs or on the field.
14:27And I think they're trying to do that as well.
14:29I say it all the time.
14:31I know Chris Greer personally.
14:33He's a good human being.
14:34I think he's made a lot of mistakes with the Austin Jacksons and the Patrick Pauls.
14:38Are they ready to play?
14:39Liam Eikenberg still on this damn roster.
14:41Like he's made a lot of mistakes that he tried to make up for while also paying the stars.
14:46But like, you're not getting deals.
14:48He didn't get a deal on Tyreek.
14:50There was no deal on Waddle.
14:51There was no deal on Tua.
14:52There was no deal on Ramsey.
14:54There was no deal.
14:54He's not, he's not for manipulating the cap.
14:58He's paying guys a bunch of money.
15:00And like Hawk said, I think he said, we can't just keep throwing $30 million at everybody.
15:04But after you do that last year, now it's the season where if you don't win, the owner
15:09already said status quo is not good enough.
15:12You go pay Jair Alexander.
15:14He got $6 million from the Baltimore Ravens.
15:16And we need a cornerback because right now, Storm Duck is the cornerback with literally
15:23the most experience outside of Keter Kohu who's not going to, you know, he's going to play
15:28in a slot.
15:30You go pay Jair Alexander $10 million if you need to.
15:32Like that's, that's what you do in that position.
15:35And he's not doing it.
15:36Again, again, I would submit to you that it's not because they don't want to.
15:39It's because they couldn't get stuff done.
15:41There's nobody on earth who works for a living who would say to themselves, you know what?
15:46The more prudent thing here is to set this up for someone else because I'm not very good
15:51at it.
15:51So let me just kind of go out with a whimper this season, but the I'll do the organization
15:57right.
15:58Like no chance.
15:59It just, it just life doesn't work that way.
