00:00Just before 4 o'clock yesterday afternoon, emergency services were called to this beach just a little bit down from where I am now over reports a 16-year-old boy had been bitten by a shark while in the water.
00:14Now we know that there were quite a few people in the water at the time and the boy and his family were visiting this area from Brisbane during the Queensland school holidays.
00:23He suffered pretty serious injuries to his right arm and right leg and people were able to help apply a tourniquet to those limbs whilst paramedics arrived at the scene.
00:36The boy was taken and flown to Gold Coast University Hospital in a serious but stable condition.
00:43Now emergency services and surf lifesavers have since closed this beach for a 24-hour period and they're continuing to monitor for shark activity here.
00:55They actually had a surveillance drone up a little bit earlier.
00:58They said the water is pretty rough at the moment but it's actually quite clear and so they can see reasonably well and there haven't been any further signs of sharks in the water.
01:08But they're continuing to watch closely while the community's thoughts remain with the boy and his family.
