A man is in a critical but stable condition after being attacked by a shark at one of Adelaide’s southern beaches. It is the second shark attack at Port Noarlunga in 18 months. And it comes after numerous sightings of sharks in the shallows along South Australia’s coast in recent weeks.

00:00A cold morning dip becoming one beach goers worst nightmare, emergency services pulling
00:08a man from the water after he was attacked by a shark.
00:11We tell ourselves the sharks don't come inside the reef but it sounds like we have to tell
00:15ourselves a new story.
00:16Paramedics reached Port Norlunga beach shortly before 10 o'clock treating a man in his 40s
00:21for injuries to his thigh.
00:23He was taken to Flinders Medical Centre where he remains in a critical but stable condition.
00:28The reef at Port Norlunga is a popular spot for snorkelers and divers who were evacuated
00:33from the water after the attack.
00:35It was crazy, like we've heard about a lot of sharks in the area recently being washed
00:39up and then being bitten today, it just shows the seal in the area and it's a bit scary.
00:44Today's shark attack follows four fatal attacks in South Australian waters over the past two
00:48years.
00:49Those all occurred on remote beaches on either the York or Eyre Peninsula.
00:54But Port Norlunga is no stranger to sharks.
00:56Just 18 months ago a woman sustained serious head injuries after being bitten by a shark.
01:01The 32 year old suffered serious injuries after her attack in November 2023.
01:06The community rocked again with locals calling for government intervention.
01:10There is not being enough done to ensure public safety in South Australian waters.
01:16The funding and the resources need to be allocated efficiently due to the circumstances that are
01:21unfolding.
01:22We know that sharks are a part of our marine wildlife and there's always a risk.
01:28The question is whether or not there's any reasonable intervention that can be made that
01:31would make a difference.
01:32A difference direly needed to ensure safety for water users.
