The federal and South Australian governments have visited Whyalla to officially begin the sale process of the city's steelworks. The state government claims there are more than 30 interested buyers.

00:00In the latest step for the Wayella Steelworks, the sale process has officially opened.
00:07The new Federal Industry Minister Tim Ayres joined Premier Peter Malinowskis in South Australia here at the Steelworks today.
00:13Visiting the site and speaking with workers around four months after the State Government made the extraordinary move to force the Steelworks into administration.
00:21Of the $2.4 billion support package announced in February, a big chunk of that is set aside for a new owner to invest in the future of the site.
00:30The Premier says there's confidence in how the process is tracking and that it's a starkly different vibe in Wayella compared to the start of the year.
00:38He says there's been significant interest in the Steelworks.
00:41There are so far been at least 33 interested parties in acquiring the Steelworks and a majority of those, in fact over 60% of those, come from overseas including very significant global steel makers.
00:56The State and Federal Governments alongside the Local Council also unveiled completed upgrades to the city's airport.
01:02Something both levels of government say shows an investment in Wayella's future.
01:07While today's announcement is another step in the process, they're still a long way ahead for the future of the Steelworks and Wayella.
