Castlegrove Park or Manygates Park is often overlooked but actually you could literally be tripping over history.

You may have wandered past Castlegrove Park or Many Gates Park or as it was originally known as Wakefield Green.

If you look closely you can see the green ridges from the uneven surface of the land.

This was because it was the site of the Battle of Wakefield where people started to march down and march up the hill to Sandal Castle.

There's even a statue to the Grand Old Duke of York who's believed to be slain here.

And that's just across the road outside the old Many Gates Maternity Hospital which is now the Many Gates Adult Education Centre.

This place is steeped in history.

It may look fairly insignificant but actually there is so much history buried here.
