00:00Not many people can say their journey through life has been nearly as eventful as Bam Margera's.
00:14He was once widely considered the ultimate party animal in his youthful years.
00:19Unfortunately, the former MTV star never seemed to quite grow up as he aged.
00:25Let's take a look back at the interesting story of Bam Margera.
00:28And find out what actually happened.
00:33Bam was quite energetic and wild as an adolescent, many would say.
00:38His mother and father were rather lenient during his youthful years.
00:42They fully supported him and all his aspirations, perhaps even overdoing it at times.
00:48When he took up an interest in skateboarding, they didn't just buy him a skateboard like most parents would.
00:55They actually decided to build a half-pipe ramp in their backyard.
01:00His house became the ultimate hangout destination for all the kids in the area.
01:06Aside from an obsession with skateboarding, Bam also developed a keen interest in making videos.
01:12Often he would film his friends performing extreme stunts and pranks around town.
01:18Bam eventually decided to drop out of high school to pursue a career in professional skateboarding.
01:23With so much free time on his hands, he was able to make a lot of videos.
01:29After years of consistent filming of his various escapades, a rather large video collection was formed and independently distributed.
01:37The tapes soon found their way into the right hands, at the right time.
01:43A skate magazine called Big Brother came across the videos while developing a new show for MTV.
01:50They were aiming to produce something very similar to what they saw.
01:54Margera along with a few others involved were asked to be featured as cast members in the series.
01:59The show would push many boundaries for the network and create new stars along the way.
02:06Bam was considered to be one of the fan favorites among the cast of Misfits.
02:11He was the youngest member of the group being just 21 years old.
02:16His age made him the most relatable of the bunch, with their target demographic of teens and young adults.
02:21The over-the-top nature made it one of MTV's most-watched programs ever.
02:27The series would wrap after three controversial but highly successful seasons.
02:33Bam's parents encouraged him to pitch his own spin-off to the network.
02:37MTV was sold on the concept of the family element.
02:41The brand new show would be another big hit under the emerging star's belt.
02:45The younger audience once again gravitated toward the carefree and rebellious nature of Margera.
02:53Weekly millions of viewers tuned in to see what shenanigans he and his friends would do next.
02:59Most episodes centered around very immature pranks involving his parents and his uncle.
03:04Not only was he paid extremely well for the series,
03:08but being the star of the show greatly boosted his fame.
03:11The exposure allowed him to even be featured in multiple Tony Hawk video games.
03:18Bam was living the ultimate dream for a young man in his early 20s.
03:23But after five seasons, the show would finally come to an end.
03:27And this would mark the turning point in his life going forward.
03:32While Bam would reunite with his fellow misfits for hit movies,
03:36he would struggle to find solo success again, and his stardom slowly began to dwindle.
03:43He attempted to stay in the spotlight with Bam's Unholy Union,
03:46which documented the planning of his wedding.
03:49But most of his fans didn't seem to care for his newer content or the behavior he displayed on screen.
03:56His glory days of being on top and a fan favorite was now a thing of the past.
04:00While he had been known to drink alcohol often,
04:04the habit only seemed to get worse, as his career was now on the decline.
04:10After several days that consisted of heavy drinking,
04:13Margera would need to be rushed to the hospital.
04:17His family and friends decided it was time for an intervention,
04:21prompting him to get professional help for his substance abuse problem and finally go to rehab.
04:27Unfortunately, he failed to see the program through.
04:30And checked himself out after just a few days.
04:35Hello.
04:36Hi.
04:37My name is Bam and I'm an alcoholic.
04:39Hey Bam.
04:41Chad, I just got out of fucking rehab.
04:44Yeah?
04:44Yeah, in uh, in Wethersville, Pennsylvania, right outside of Reading.
04:50I don't know, it's right by Gina Lynn's house.
04:52What kind of rehab?
04:54Like a drug alcoholic rehab.
04:58What did you go in there for, alcohol or drugs?
05:00Well, is what happened was, I, uh, the thing is, I got caught at the wrong time, big time, because…
05:09Caught?
05:10Yeah, caught.
05:11So I'm like an alcoholic already.
05:12When his close friend sadly passed away, the alcohol abuse would intensify for the MTV former star.
05:21In moments of clarity, he vowed to clean up his act once and for all.
05:26Only to relapse over and over again after brief stretches of sobriety.
05:31Multiple incidents have been captured on video of his less than stellar behavior over the years.
05:36Some of which he actually uploaded to social media platforms himself.
05:42Let's get to my mom, which is the worst part.
05:44Everything she says is negative, and she always cuts people off and never lets them finish.
05:51She's already ready to say what she's going to say before you're done.
05:54That means she's not listening.
05:56Ever.
05:58And you get…
05:59She invented the time machine, because we go nowhere so fucking fast that it drives me crazy.
06:03And we could do this shit for hours.
06:05So, when I almost died the other day, it was super fucking scary, and my buddy Lucid witnessed it.
06:12And he called my mom saying what happened, and she acted like the fucking Phillies lost.
06:17It was unreal.
06:18I have it on record.
06:21I was like, fuck you forever, mom.
06:23I just heard that shit, and you acted with no emotion like it happens every other Monday.
06:28You are a piece of work.
06:30Dr. Phil, I've seen 28 doctors.
06:35I've been to four rehabs.
06:37When I went to my last rehab, they put me on more medication than I was on when I was out.
06:43When I'm out, I have Adderall, and then some weird shit.
06:47I'll tell you all about it.
06:48I don't know what works and what doesn't.
06:50And occasionally, I'll have some beers usually.
06:54You know, like two, three.
06:56And it's not even every night these days.
07:00Not even now.
07:02The lack of sobriety and unhinged behavior would lead to his dismissal from the franchise that made him famous.
07:10After a string of arrest, some disturbing text messages, and alleged threats to family members.
07:17Margera was placed on a 5150 psychiatric hold in Los Angeles at a mental health facility.
07:23At the age of 44 years old, Bam would be arrested once again for driving under the influence.
07:31During the early years of Bam's success, his father seemed to have sensed his son was headed down a bad path.
07:39You know what, Bam?
07:46What?
07:47There's rich people and kids that are assholes.
07:52And I'd rather be a poor guy with a kid that's nice.
07:54How about that?
07:55Let's go back to the old days.
07:57Well, let's go then and quit bitching about it.
07:58It's up to you to go back to the old days.
08:01I'm going to be an asshole forever.
08:02Well, then...
08:03I make money off of it.
08:04I don't know what the fuck I did wrong, because I thought I raised you perfect.
08:07What do you mean?
08:09You let me skip school and shit and go skating?
08:11To get your goals, your dream, and I thought I was doing the right thing.
08:14Apparently, it wasn't.
08:16Well, I like it, but if you don't like it, then fuck.
08:19You read about all the rich people, their kids do drugs and kill themselves.
08:23I'd rather have a kid that was with me and this and that than any fucking money.
08:29So, uh, take that.
08:30What do you think about this story?
08:35Do you think BAM can turn things around and flourish once again?
