Flooding shuts down Lodge Freeway in Detroit

The Lodge was closed in both directions— southbound at Howard and northbound at Jefferson Ave. — due to water over the freeway. WWJ's Luke Sloan reports from the scene the morning of Friday, June 27, 2025.

00:00WWJ is Luke Sloan here this morning downtown Detroit right near the river the lodge and

00:07Jefferson one of two spots closed this morning because of flooding this right here is the

00:13northbound lodge at Jefferson kind of tough to see in this video but you can see the reflection

00:18of the lights right there there's some water underneath the uh the overpass right there on

00:24the freeway it's closed at Jefferson northbound southbound at Howard talking to the Detroit

00:29water and sewage department they were doing some hydrant flushing in the area after a

00:33Gliwa water main repair and they've now shut those hydrants off but the storm drains were

00:39all backed up in the area so normally when they would shut these hydrants or when they

00:43turn these hydrants on all the water would just go down the storm drains but they were

00:46backed up those drains are now being cleared the freeway hopefully should reopen this afternoon
