Parisian church official Dom Frollo looks on as Esmeralda, a gypsy who rebuffed his advances, is convicted of a murder he committed. Esmeralda is rescued from the gallows by Quasimodo, the disfigured cathedral bell-ringer who secretly longs for her, but powerful forces are soon bearing down on them.
