Starmer makes Commons statement about welfare reforms

00:00This Labour government is focused on delivering security for the British

00:04people. National security, economic security and social security. On social

00:10security, I recognise there is a consensus across the House on the urgent

00:15need for reform of our welfare system, because the British people deserve

00:20protection and dignity when they're unable to work, and support into work

00:25when they can. At the moment, they are failed every single day by the broken

00:31system created by the Conservatives, which achieves neither. I know colleagues

00:37across the House are eager to start fixing that, and so am I, and that all

00:42colleagues want to get this right, and so do I. We want to see reform implemented

00:49with Labour values of fairness. That conversation will continue in the coming

00:54days, so that we can begin making change together on Tuesday.
