00:03Council planners have given the go-ahead for plans to convert most of the village pub into a convenience store,
00:09despite protesters' objections that it may lead to the loss of a vital part of their community.
00:15North East Derbyshire District Council's Planning Committee has approved an application for the Corner Pin pub
00:20on Station Road and Pilsley Road in Morton.
00:24The move will see the premises converted into a mixed-use smaller pub,
00:28with a convenience store and a takeaway to be opened from a building near the car park.
00:33The council receives 23 objection comments from 14 residents,
00:37and a petition with 199 signatures objecting to the plans.
00:41Pilsley Parish Council has stated it would also have preferred to keep the Corner Pin as a pub.
00:46However, the District Council's Planning Officers said that reducing the size of the Corner Pin
00:51whilst also introducing a shop would mean that the scheme would not result in a loss of social infrastructure.
01:00A Chesterfield nursery is extending its hours to keep up with demand from working parents.
01:05The Nest, which is attached to Newbold Church School on Cranbourne Road
01:09and is part of the Derby Diocesan Academy Trust,
01:12is now offering full-time provision for children aged 3 and 4 years old.
01:15The expansion comes as part of a national push to support working families with increased access to funded childcare.
