Transcript
00:00Thank you everyone for being here today. It's really exciting to be here to
00:04announce the ACT Government is progressing critical infrastructure for
00:09ACT Police. There is a current request for expressions of interest going out in
00:17the next week to call on the community to come forward with solutions for a city
00:24police station and city police headquarters. So this is a very exciting
00:30day. A lot of work has gone up to this point in preparing a request to market
00:35around this critical infrastructure and yeah it'll be a great process to see what
00:41the market comes forward with. We know that ACT Police have some very specific
00:47requirements in their infrastructure which in terms of technology and security
00:52we've also got the unique set up of the watch house. So these are all requirements
00:58that will be need to be met but yeah really excited about what solutions the
01:04market may come forward with.
01:08Good morning. Firstly it's a pleasure to be here with the Minister this morning Dr
01:14Patterson and also Mr Gillian Garrity the Director-General of Infrastructure Canberra.
01:19I think I'm pleased to be here today as we take the next steps to secure a new city
01:24police station and a new ACT policing headquarters here in the city. I'd like to
01:30thank the Minister and the ACT Government for their support in progressing this
01:34critical strategy to meet the needs for ACT policing infrastructure requirements
01:39into the future. The approach to market is a significant milestone to consider
01:44options to ensure that ACT policing has modern fit-for-purpose facilities that
01:50enable us to meet the needs of the Canberra community well into the future.
01:53These buildings will have modern workspaces to support the health and
01:57well-being of our members combined with specialist facilities that meet the needs
02:01of victims and ensure that we can provide the appropriate responses to crime
02:06here in the ACT. They will support our dedicated workforce as they strive to keep the
02:11community safe and allow us to best serve Canberra's growing community. We have
02:17spent significant time working with both Infrastructure Canberra and Justice and
02:21Community Safety Directorate going through the specific needs required for a
02:26major police facility as the Minister said including secure storage for police
02:31equipment, holding rooms, a new watch house for the ACT and modern
02:37communications and operations centres. This work will help shape the engagement that
02:42will be required with third parties as part of the request for expressions of
02:46interest and we look forward to continuing that engagement and that
02:49partnership with Infrastructure Canberra. I also want to thank ACT policing officers for
02:56their patience and I think this is a really important step forward to show the
03:01progress that we're making with the ACT government to ensure that our members have
03:05connected purpose facilities. Thank you very much.
