00:00Well, it's one of the great Australian pastimes comparing the price of a weekly shop, but
00:07consumer advocacy group Choice has effectively put that debate to bed for the next 12 months,
00:13finding Aldi is the best value for money for Australian shoppers going into the winter
00:18period.
00:19Without including specials, a basket of 14 items cost $55.35 at Aldi's, it's $58.92
00:28at Woolworths, $59.22 at Coles, and IGA is costing $69.74.
00:38Now in the battle between the two biggest supermarket chains here in Australia, Coles and Woolworths,
00:44Choice has found Woolworths is generally 30% cheaper without specials than its major counterpart.
00:52Now Woolies have actually issued a statement earlier today, they've said that they understand
00:57the pressure that Australian consumers are under and are moving more items into their
01:02low costing list.
01:04Now interestingly enough, Choice has touched on the cost of living.
01:08They've found that 96% of Australian households said that the general cost of daily living
01:14has increased over the last 12 months.
01:18Now interestingly enough, it isn't the same across the board.
01:21Even Australian consumers are generally paying more for their shopping than any of their eastern
01:26seaboard counterparts.
01:28In New South Wales, Woolies is cheaper.
01:30In Queensland, it appears to be Coles, but ultimately Choice are telling consumers to change
01:36your routine and to constantly monitor prices.
