A cloudy afternoon for many, with showery rain continuing to push eastwards across much of Scotland and northern England. The odd shower also possible over Wales and Northern Ireland. The south should remain largely dry, with the best of the sunshine across central England. Remaining breezy, especially across England and Wales. A fresher feel for Northern Ireland and Scotland. Feeling warm and humid particularly in the southeast.- This is the Met Office UK weather forecast for the afternoon of 24/06/2025. Bringing you today’s forecast is Alex Deakin

00:00Welcome to your afternoon weather update from the Met Office.
00:03Skies generally brightening a little bit through the rest of today.
00:05It was a bit of a glum start and a bit of a messy start looking at the radar.
00:10Patches of rain all over the place.
00:12Fairly blotchy looking picture, early doors.
00:15But that rain is kind of easing off in many locations.
00:18It won't be completely dry. Far from it.
00:20We'll see some wet weather edging south.
00:22Clearing away though from Northern Ireland, so turning a bit brighter here.
00:25Tending to dry up a touch through southern Scotland.
00:28Always some showers coming in across the north and the west of Scotland.
00:31And always staying fairly grey over parts of northern England.
00:34Especially over the hills. A bit dull and damp here.
00:36Much of the south though staying dry.
00:39And brighter skies here will really bring a more humid feel.
00:43As temperatures jump up with parts of East Wales, the Midlands.
00:47East Angland and the southeast in particular.
00:48Seeing some warm and humid afternoon sunshine.
00:51And temperatures could easily get up to 25, 26 degrees.
00:54Maybe even a degree or so higher.
00:56Not quite as warm further north.
00:57Still quite breezy too, certainly for England and Wales.
01:00A fresher feel for Scotland and Northern Ireland.
01:02Temperatures here struggling in the high teens at best.
01:06Now as we go through the evening and overnight, we'll see a little bit more of this patchy rain.
01:09Just trickling south.
01:10So damp at times in central and west Wales.
01:13See a little bit of rain over northwest England persisting.
01:16Maybe heading into the Midlands.
01:17A few scattered showers in western Scotland.
01:19But many central and eastern places will be dry.
01:22Still got that warm and humid air around across the south.
01:25So temperatures here holing up in the mid-teens in urban areas.
01:30A little bit more comfortable for sleeping further north.
01:3211 to 13 in towns and cities here.
01:35Still fairly cloudy there on Wednesday morning.
01:37Some misty, murky conditions.
01:39A few scattered showers in western Scotland.
01:41This zone of damp weather affecting South Wales.
01:44Perhaps the Midlands, maybe northern parts of Devon and Cornwall.
01:47Seeing a little light rain and drizzle too.
01:49That should tend to fizzle out through the day.
01:52And away from that cloudier zone.
01:54Many places looking dry through Wednesday.
01:56And we should see brighter skies.
01:58Certainly for northwest England, much brighter than today.
02:00Same goes for southwest Scotland.
02:02Some good spells of sunshine.
02:03And again, quite warm and humid across the south and east.
02:07If the sun does break out here, temperature is getting up into the high 20s.
02:11Likely 28 degrees Celsius.
02:14Quite warm, quite humid in this zone.
02:16But notice the threat of some thundery showers coming up from the south.
02:20And that is something we need to keep an eye on as we go through Wednesday evening.
02:23The potential for some pretty lively downpours.
02:26Initially, perhaps over South Wales, southwest England.
02:29But then spreading into the Midlands.
02:30And even angrier looking downpours.
02:32Just threatening to come up across the southeastern corner during Wednesday evening and overnight.
02:38So that's something we need to keep a close eye on.
02:40The potential for some big thunderstorms during the course of Wednesday night into Thursday morning.
02:45At the same time, more cloud and rain spilling in from the west.
02:48From a weather front from the Atlantic.
02:50Quite a bit going on.
