00:00Panthers parade. I mean, it was an all-timer of a great day. It was an all-timer of a celebration.
00:09It was certainly worthy of what the Panthers delivered hockey-wise, not just this season,
00:17last season, and the season before, really the season before the head. But it was a great
00:23celebration. It falls right into the narrative we've been talking about, Crowder, of this team
00:28parties and is part of the community as much as the community parties around the team and supports
00:36the team. The team really does seem to support the community right back. So if you were there
00:42yesterday, you got this feeling of like, yeah, wow, these guys appreciate me and they're partying
00:46with me. It was a really cool event. Yes, yes. And I wish we got Marsan about four years ago,
00:53because I love this dude now that I'm starting to figure him out. He's a fun human being.
00:58Really amazing. He, uh, he easily could have been a half a year rental. He could have been a guy
01:05that we never took to. He never really took to us teammates tolerated. Um, like you had no idea
01:11what was going to happen with Brad Marsan. Although I will tell you this, I don't think anyone could
01:18have foreseen this happening with Brad Marsan. I'll tell you a story. You know, uh, one of my neighbors
01:25texted me and she said, you think Brad Marsan will be here next season?
01:32And I said, uh, I don't know. I said, my gut tells me, yes, he seems like a kind of lay it on
01:40the line kind of guy. Like he doesn't seem like a guy, you know, how we go through the, the Dwayne
01:44Wade tweets and the, and the Jimmy Butler tweets and the James Harden tweets, you know, and it's
01:51like, you know, they're kind of like throwing breadcrumbs. It's like, Hey, look at me start
02:00to talk about white, what might happen with me. Brad Marsan just seems like the kind of guy that's
02:06like, yeah, figure out a deal to get me here. Cause I want to stay. Yeah. And he's, and he's,
02:10he's politicking for other people to stay. Right. Right. And why would he be doing that if he was
02:15leaving? That's what showed me something when he's doing the, you know, he's doing the, doing
02:20the stuff, sending out the tweets and they're not, there's no breadcrumbs. He's giving you the loaf.
02:25Hey, sign back, bro. We need you. And you know what? I love, I love hall of famers that are still
02:33playing that just act like hall of famers. Like I'm great at hockey. Y'all know I'm great at hockey.
02:37Just let's just, just have fun. That's the part of that. That's the part I love about him. But also
02:42I got to tell y'all about yesterday. I don't know if it's an old man moment, but I'm running the kids
02:50around. Ava has basketball, you know, chance going to rehab and stuff. And I hear you and Solana talking
02:56on the radio. And for about five minutes, I thought it was prerecorded. And then y'all started
03:03talking about the parade. Did you think it was like Monday or something where you're
03:07like, wait, am I supposed to be on with these guys? How the hell did they know this is about
03:12to happen last week? I was confused. And I heard Tobin and I was like, oh, that's right.
03:23They're at the actual parade. And I thought like it clicked to me, but I had an old man moment
03:28for about three, four minutes in the car. We, uh, we had a really good broadcast yesterday.
03:32Brendan Tobin is going to join us this hour. Cause we were with them when the Kevin Durant
03:35news broke. And obviously, you know, he follows the heat extensively and he did a great job
03:40with the Panthers. It was really supposed to be Tobin and Solana doing the Panthers parade.
03:45I had to drop Lori at Fort Lauderdale airport. So I was like, you know what? I'm going to drive
03:50up us one from Fort Lauderdale airport. I'm going to figure out how far North I can get
03:56before they shut it all down. And if I can get near the parade, I'll walk to the,
04:02I'll walk to the parade. Cause I'd like to be there and I had to drop her off in the morning
04:05anyway. And, uh, so I, I dropped her off and I drove up and you know where that B ocean hotel
04:10is, which is just like a little bit South of Bahia Mar. I think more people probably know
04:15Bahia Mar, but, um, so I was able to park at someone's house for a hundred dollars, very
04:21neighborly of the person. Uh, I was able to, to park at someone's house. And then I just walked
04:26like right from B ocean, which is kind of where the party was all the way down to Lulu's bait shack
04:32where Solana and Tobin were doing the broadcast. And I just jammed my way in. I was like, Hey,
04:37can I be part of this? And I had really fun. I, it was really fun, but yeah, I just, I just
04:43kind of weaseled my way into the, into their, uh, into their Sunday broadcast. Y'all got me.
04:49I said, how is this happening? My neighbor. So she had texted me and she said, is Marcian
04:54going to be back? And the reason was her daughter who's been rooting for the Panthers because I used
05:00to get free stacks of tickets when they were no good. And so, you know, the neighbors would all
05:06come, the whole neighborhood would come because no one wanted tickets for, you know, since she was a
05:11kid now she's in college, huge Panthers fan. She wants a Brad Marchand Jersey, but you know,
05:18the mom's like, Hey, I'm not necessarily certain you should buy one yet. And I'm like, yeah,
05:21yeah. Don't buy it yet. My gut instinct tells me though, you'll be able to buy one with, uh,
05:26with no problem. But what if you worst case scenario, he's not here. You can't still have
05:33a Marcian Jersey. I think this is one of those seasons that you always remember, right? Like,
05:42like, and he was a big catalyst towards everything. I think regardless, like to have a Panthers,
05:50Brad Marchand Jersey, I don't think that'll ever like go out of style unless he goes back
05:59to Boston. Hmm. Says it was a bad dream. And then we got to hate him again.
06:13And it's like one of those movies where it never happened.
06:17Now we got the receipts, man. We got the receipts of, uh, him saying, thank you, Boston.
06:24We got the receipts of him smoking a cigar. He's got a spiked iced tea, uh, in one hand,
06:31he's got a coffee cup. In the other hand, he's got an elbow beer tucked under his elbow.
06:36Like we got receipts, bro. There's no backing out of this Florida Panthers life because you
06:42hoist the cup. I thought you were talking about me for a second. Cause you said that coffee cup
06:47in my hand. I thought you, I thought my, uh, my video feed had gone down and you're like, well,
06:50I see him. Uh, it looks like he's got a coffee cup in his hand. Uh, if you did what he did in
06:57those 12 minutes of life, you might die. No, a roadie, a roadie, a roadie, a beer, an elbow
07:05beer and a cigar. Did you see me yesterday at the parade? There's video up. Did you see what I was
07:10drinking during the broadcast? A damn apparel spritz. That's right. Yeah. Let's see Brad
07:17Marshan throw down an Aperol spritz and try to do a broadcast. No, sir.
07:25That took many years of practice to be able to do what I did yesterday.
07:30Those pictures from the parade. I know what three days of no sleep looks like.
07:37Boy, they were getting after it since that game ended because they were rough
07:41looking. They were sweating, hair dirty. Yeah. That was a good time.
07:47It was fun, man. Fun as hell really was. Um, so we'll talk about that today, but it was the yin
07:54and the yang and Tobin had pointed out. It's one of the reasons I want to talk to Tobin. Tobin pointed
07:58out during the parade broadcast was the yin and yang. You had a franchise being celebrated by their
08:04fans who've put together this run of exceptionalism over two seasons for sure, maybe three and quite
08:13possibly four, you know, Solana argues the president's trophy season should be included
08:18in that. And if you do, it's four straight seasons. And, and then you've got every decision
08:23that they've made personnel wise from the front office being a slam dunk. And while this celebration
08:30of that is going on, news is coming in that Kevin Durant is going to Houston because the heat
08:38were unwilling to give up enough to get Kevin, Kevin Durant in a heat uni, which I'm not even so
08:45certain I wanted very badly, but I know I don't want what seems to be looming, which is running it
08:54back. You know what I'm like? I'm really torn. It's why I want to get Tobin's take. I didn't hear
08:59his show today, but I, I, I wasn't in love with the thought of Kevin Durant because he is getting
09:07older and he is prone to injury and didn't make the playoffs last season. Um, but man,
09:15if the heat are telling me it's more important for me to watch and root for Haywood Highsmith and
09:26Kalil where then to get a season and who knows where it would lead with KD that that's my hangup.
09:35I trust in Pat Riley and I trust the Miami heat and they have delivered us more success
09:42than any franchise over. What is it? What is it? Solana last, I mean, really 20 years,
09:47right? Since 06 next year will be 20 years, but even the year before, I mean, game seven of the
09:53Eastern conference finals. Yeah. They they've been perennially a playoff team since 2000, early
10:002000s, even in the nineties. So I trust them. I'm not telling you, I don't trust them. I'm just
10:05telling you. And again, I'm not a guy that was a big proponent of getting Kevin Durant. Cause I
10:11didn't think he was going to be the answer, but if my options are Kevin Durant, let's see what,
10:19what happens or Kalil where Haywood Highsmith pick number 20, let's see what happens.
10:26I'd probably ride with KD at that point. But again, I don't get paid to make those decisions.
10:32I mean, well, I like Solana, you just brought it up in the receipts. Cause you know, I keep
10:36handwritten notes, right? And we early on with KD, we had this conversation and I said, we're good.
10:44Tyler Bam, Khalil Ware, Davion Mitchell, Pella Larson, Haywood Highsmith. I don't think that's
10:52an exciting team to cheer for at all. And then y'all came back and we were talking about it,
10:56where if you're going to stay there, you might as well trade off the big, the big names and really
11:01reset and get draft picks and all of that stuff. I am not excited to go into the season with the
11:06names I just said. Yeah. And the East is weak. And I actually heard, I heard Tobin talking about how
11:12the East, you know, East wide open, we've talked about it. That, that, that list of humans does
11:17not make me say, let's go heat. Pat Riley's the goat. It just doesn't. And I don't know who's out
11:23there. What if you add Niko Jovich to that list? You didn't have that name written down. Does that
11:28change your opinion of anything? If you Niko Jovich me this summer, I'm going to kill you.
11:33I mean, that was one of the things that Riley refused to give up. He literally refused to give up
11:37Jovich. If it, and Phoenix wanted him. And so like, he's one of those guys who better,
11:45better deliver where Jovich better deliver. I'll take it a step further. Eric Spolstra better play
11:54those two dudes next year because that like, okay, fine. You, you don't want to even want to dangle
12:01them in a trade. Fine for Kevin Durant, but don't tell me Niko Jovich has a short leash next year.
12:08Eric Spolstra. Don't tell me Kala where is going to get played off the floor by Thomas Bryant in the
12:15Indiana Pacers. When you play them in the middle of January, which happened last year, like those
12:20guys better be playing and Hawk. It's not even that Phoenix wanted them. Phoenix was just like,
12:26well, aren't you at least going to offer us like anything else? Like Wiggins. Are we reading this
12:32wrong? This literally says Terry Rozier. Terry Rozier. What are we reading wrong? And then two
12:38bench players. Everybody's assuming it was Haywood Highsmith and Jaime Hawkes Jr. And then the 20th
12:44overall selection. Phoenix was probably like, all right, we'll, we'll let that sit for two weeks
12:48and they'll come back with Niko Jovich and Kalil where we'll get this done. And he, we're like, no,
12:53no, no. I mean, this is, this is our offer guys. The heat didn't want Kevin Durant. Let's be honest.
12:58I mean, well, they wanted him at a very bargain basement price because Phoenix, after what happened
13:03with Desmond Bain, Phoenix would have a very difficult time turning to their fan base and
13:08saying, we got zero established stars and we got a late round, late first round draft pick.
13:17And so at least with green, if Gerald green, right, at least with, um, not Gerald green,
13:23uh, Jared, Jalen green, Jalen green, Jalen, Jalen, at least with Jalen green, they can say to the
13:30fan base, we got a bonafide star. It's not, this isn't a prospect we get. So I I'm kind of like
13:36with Solana where, I mean, did the heat really want to get in this battle for KD or was it,
13:43Hey, Katie maybe wants to play here. He turns the screws a little bit. We give up very little
13:51and we get to roll the dice with KD because that, that was not from the offers we're reading.
13:59That was not a strong offer. That was, uh, yeah, y'all do garage sales. Have y'all ever done a garage
14:05sale? Yeah. I love a garage sale. When you're like, you go up and they're selling a bike for a hundred
14:09dollars. And that one dude walks up and says, I got six bucks. Yeah. And you're like, ah,
14:16I understand negotiation. Sure. But I am asking for a hundred. Okay. I got six 50. Like you can't
14:23be that guy. If Kevin Durant's the bicycle and it seems like, unless you don't really want the
14:28bicycle. And I don't know. And that's what one of the two, I think one of the tweets y'all sent me
14:32it was like, they get involved in, it made me think we are involved in every free agent talk,
14:38but are we just involved because we want our name involved? Are we really want to get this
14:43damn bicycle from this? Right. It's like the, the Marlins when a show, Heyo Tani was looking for
14:48another team. It was like, well, I think the Marlins are involved in this in some way, shape or form.
14:53Yeah. I got six 75 asking for a hundred, sir. Hawk. Maybe, maybe they did want Durant at that
15:00very low price, but the heat look man, Pat Riley, Andy Ellisberg, Nick Harrison, like they're not
15:06dumb. They know what other teams could be offering would be offering probably did offer. They know that
15:14that's not going to land Kevin Durant. Like, well, I mean, Hawk, Hawk, just, just with what they
15:20accepted from Houston, right? Dylan Brooks is the other name in that, that piece. He's a starter.
15:28He's a, he's a legit NBA starter. Say what you want about Dylan Brooks. The guy's annoying as hell
15:33and, and borderline weird, but he's a starter, a good role player, a very good starter in the NBA.
15:39The number 10 overall picks way lottery pick top 10 pick. And then a ton of second round draft.
15:46It's a no brainer. It's a, it's a no brainer that he offered one starter and Andrew Wiggins. Okay.
15:52Like we all knew that would be a part of it. And then Terry Rozier, I understand what Miami's doing,
15:57but he just came off of one of the worst NBA seasons probably ever. And then two, two role
16:04players, which look, man, like I love Heywood Highsmith. We know what he is. He's not an NBA
16:09starter. He's a role player. And then Jaime Hawkins Jr. If that was the other name, which is being
16:15reported, it is he didn't show that he has the potential to be a starter in the NBA either.
16:20So like, I'm sorry. Right. I'm sitting here and I'm saying, look, the heat made it seem like they
16:29wanted to be in the Kevin Durant sweepstakes based on what they offered. They did not think
16:34Kevin Durant, Tyler here on Bama to bio could a be a contender or be, they did not want to pay
16:39Kevin Durant $110 million over the next two years. They didn't want to give up youth either.
16:44I think you were off when Jim Laranega was on with us on Thursday and Jim Laranega said flat out,
16:51he goes, listen, 37 year old for a 21 year old, you better be absolute certain that you're in your
16:59championship window right now. Because if you are giving up a 21 year old, which I believe
17:06is, and you're getting a 37 year old in return, it's because you think you can win a championship
17:15right now. And if Kevin Durant wasn't the difference between the championship, which I don't think he
17:21was now for Houston, he may be for the heat. I'm not necessarily certain. Um, and if that's the case,
17:30if you don't think it's a championship window, then you're probably better off hanging on to your
17:35younger talent. But as a lot of fun, bonafide starters, someone that is going to stop the heat
17:43roster, look at the heat roster, the player that's going to start on whatever team he goes to
17:48gets traded tomorrow, gets cut and picked up. It's bam and Tyler, maybe Wiggins. Tell me if I'm wrong.
17:55The other guys on our roster are not guaranteed to go anywhere and start at anything. That's the
18:01problem. But that's why they're young guys with, with upside. I mean, Kala where Crowder? I'm not
18:07saying he is. I don't know. We saw a small sample size. He could be, he could be. And look, you want
18:14to laugh about Niko Jovic. I swear I'm not doing stick here. Niko Jovic has a ton of upside. I don't
18:18know if he's going to end up being a star or not. I don't know. Probably not, but he does have upside.
18:23There's a reason why the heat aren't willing to just give them up. So, I mean, they feel like those
18:32guys could develop into surefire starters around the NBA. They better be right. I want to make sure
18:38we have enough time with Tobin because we can, we'll talk about this with him and we can talk about it
18:42all afternoon. I wanted to mention the, uh, the Marlins had their Flanagan's fest on Saturday. Great
