00:00Having some fun here on a Monday, and now the fun ends because Kevin Durant once again
00:09slips right out of the fingers of Pat Riley as he steps up.
00:15He goes, all right, we're in the trade negotiations for Kevin Durant.
00:19How about I offer a bag of donuts and see if that actually gets us a call back?
00:24It did not.
00:25A reported offer that the Miami Heat gave stunk, as was reported last week by that Gambo,
00:34who's taking a very weird victory lap over the Miami Heat.
00:37It's a very strange thing.
00:40Kevin Durant ends up going to the Houston Rockets for Jalen Green, Dylan Brooks, the number 10
00:49overall pick, and five second round picks.
00:53The Miami Heat, according to reports from Barry Jackson and Anthony Chang, they say,
01:02according to a source of direct knowledge, the Heat not only declined to offer center
01:06Kalel Ware, but also did not offer forward Nikola Jovich in the final discussions.
01:14I'll get to you in a second later, right?
01:15The teams before the sun shipped Durant to Houston.
01:18Also, the source said the Miami Heat were never willing to offer more than one first round
01:22pick.
01:23Reportedly, what Anthony and Barry Jackson say the Heat offered was Andrew Wiggins, Terry
01:30Rozier, pick number 20 in Wednesday's draft, and two bench players, which are believed to
01:36be Jaime Hawkins Jr.
01:39and Haywood Highsmith.
01:42Which, got to be honest with you, if you did offer me that for Kevin Durant, I think I'm
01:47taking the phone with me while I take a poop in the bathroom, because that offer stinks.
01:53So, KD ends up in Houston.
01:57No Kevin Durant once again on the Miami Heat.
02:00And everybody's here left wondering, Leroy, where the hell do the Heat go from here?
02:04I, I, I, I'm a little torn by this, because the Heat had to know that was a BS offer.
02:19Okay, let's be clear.
02:20Had to.
02:21That offer, that offer stinks.
02:23And here's what I think gets lost in all of this.
02:29When teams are offering up these players, okay, so we've had a few situations here, and you
02:40have three or four teams that are vying for that player's services.
02:50Okay.
02:53I don't understand why the Miami Heat always offer, like, you're the only team negotiating.
03:03And that's what that sounded like.
03:05Like, you were going to go back and forth.
03:08Well, and the way it works now is, is you have preliminary discussions.
03:15Yep.
03:16You have three or four teams that come to the table with something.
03:20And now these teams only negotiate with the team that had the original best first offer.
03:29It, you know, for me, it's just such a lack of, if you're really serious about Kevin Durant,
03:34which clearly they weren't.
03:35Right.
03:36But if you know that the team you're competing with is the Rockets, and at bare minimum, if
03:41we're just going, okay, you don't want to go draft for draft, the baseline offer is top
03:4710 pick, top 20 pick.
03:50Like, you got to make up some ground somewhere.
03:54And it can't be for four guys you don't want.
03:57Because other than Haywood Highsmith, literally probably not a guy out there that he really
04:02want back next year.
04:04Maybe Wiggins.
04:05Maybe.
04:06But I'm sure they're, I'm sure they're not at the highest level of Andrew Wiggins that
04:10they were when they traded for him from Golden State.
04:12Right.
04:13So you're essentially saying like, take a guy we just got as a, as the salary filler
04:18for Jimmy Butler, a dude who's an absolute zero on our team in, in Terry Rozier and Jaime
04:25Hawkins Jr.
04:26Reportedly, who is value has never been lower and, and pick 20.
04:33That's it.
04:33So like, you're essentially flipping the Jimmy Butler package and, and also take Terry
04:39Rozier and Jaime Hawkins Jr.
04:40Who we only play against the wizards.
04:42Like I'm just, and, and yes, I, there is a part of me that's torn to Leroy, because I
04:49love Kalil Ware and I love Nikola Jovic.
04:52I really do.
04:52I think, you know, that, that, those guys playing together was probably some of the more
04:57fun basketball in a really, really unfun season.
05:00However, you got to give to get at some point.
05:06And I just thought from my standpoint, like the swing would have been Kalil, like that
05:11would have gotten you Kevin Durant.
05:13I understand your hesitancy there, but also Nico, who I think is also going to be a really
05:20good player, but where do you think the make is make good is you're not going to get Kevin
05:26Durant for all the stuff you hate.
05:27So, so I'm going to speak as if I am Andy Ellisberg, Pat Riley, and all the powers that
05:42be in the Miami Heat organization.
05:44And I'm going to say this and I'm going to think out loud.
05:52If I would have made that trade, right?
05:58How close are we?
06:01And it's only a two year deal, right?
06:04That Kevin Durant, you can expect two years, maybe.
06:07Two good years, yeah.
06:08Right.
06:09And then we're, the cupboards are bare.
06:12So what I'm thinking as a Miami Heat front office person is that you better guarantee me
06:25immediate results from this trade.
06:31If I'm going to include some of my young players, fine, but otherwise in two years, you're going
06:39to really be a dumpster fire because now you have no young talent and no draft picks.
06:46So think of it from that standpoint, forget, I get, I get the offer was weak and they probably
06:54could have offered one or the other.
06:57I'm not saying that, but what I'm saying is, is if you make a trade like that, right?
07:06Like Houston didn't care.
07:08They have a lot of young talent.
07:09They got draft picks.
07:10They got a whole bunch of stuff and they're close.
07:15So KD kind of, they can justify sacrificing that future because they are that close.
07:25The Heat can't do that.
07:28So if you're sacrificing your youth to bring in KD, how much of a difference besides a new
07:34face?
07:36Tell me what, what is it going to, tell me what that does to the Miami Heat.
07:42If I say I'm getting rid of Kalel or Jovich, right?
07:47And, and maybe Wiggins.
07:50So take that route.
07:52Okay.
07:53And, and I want you to answer this question for me.
07:56How much better are the Miami Heat?
07:58They look different.
07:59You got a all time great player on your team.
08:02How much better are they?
08:04I think they're tremendously better.
08:05I mean, like you're talking about a team that was the worst fourth quarter team in the
08:09league last year.
08:09And you're adding an all time scorer who can actually take the burden and actually makes
08:13things easier on your two best players.
08:17So like, I know everybody wants to put the age there, but it's literally a talent at offense.
08:23They haven't had since the likes of LeBron James, even with his age being what his age
08:27is.
08:29So yeah, it's a little bit of a roll of the dice as far as like, Hey, they don't pay aging
08:34stars.
08:35They don't ever, they don't like to do that of, of, of risking.
08:39They didn't want to do it with Dwayne Wade.
08:40They didn't want to do it with Jimmy Butler.
08:41Didn't want to do it with Shaq.
08:43Didn't want to do it with Zoe.
08:44It's, it's, they, they, they get a line of demarcation on age and they do not typically
08:49believe in paying those guys.
08:51So I, you know, but if you're talking about one of the weaknesses of the Miami heat, Kevin
08:57Durant being a great elixir to a lot of that, this was right there for you.
09:02And, and to offer that, you know, it just, I'm just saying, by the way, and by the way,
09:09Kevin Durant also did his job here in that probably the team that had the offer that the
09:15sons wanted the most was probably Minnesota.
09:17And he also deflected off of that.
09:19And the heat once again, just didn't want to up the ante.
09:23And I think the thing that is becoming a pattern for heat fans that has pissed them off is you
09:30always seem like you want to play this conservative off season offense.
09:36When it comes to these trade talks, you never want to risk it.
09:39You never want to push your chips to the table.
09:41You didn't want to get Jimmy Butler help.
09:43You didn't want to go all in on Dame.
09:44You wanted to do it on your terms.
09:46You didn't want to go in all in on Donovan Mitchell.
09:48You didn't want to give up Tyler hero.
09:49Cause you said, Oh, Tyler here is going to be some semblance of spider.
09:52So you didn't want to go all the way in on that.
09:54And it's just like how many times, and this may be the worst version of that heat team.
09:58So maybe this wasn't the time to do it, but how many times are you and that, and the front office
10:05going to go into these negotiations, playing it all the way safe, not thinking you have to risk
10:12anything, especially when you look about who you're competing with.
10:15You'd be like, all right, let's just do math here.
10:18If just the best asset we're getting in this is a pick that's 10 spots higher than us.
10:24And Jalen green, who's probably a more attractive beast at 23 years old, even though he makes
10:30a good amount of money than any other player we're offering in this draft or in this deal.
10:36Why do you think you're going to win that?
10:38And why don't you think you have to improve that?
10:40I just, and it just always feel like they're caught with their pants down being like, Oh,
10:45you know, well, Terry Rozier is going to kind of be like what Damian Lillard was.
10:49It's like, what?
10:51Huh?
10:52Okay.
10:52So now what are you going to do?
10:53You're going to come to us two weeks from now, and you're going to deal Wiggins for
10:58DeMar DeRozan and be like, Hey, we got under the luxury tax because he makes 10 million
11:02less.
11:02And guys, we got you DeMar DeRozan.
11:04We have your go to score.
11:05It's like, yeah, but he's not Kevin Durant.
11:09And this is what you guys always do.
11:12It's like, they always go trade talks on the cheap skis and then come with some semblance
11:17of a player as the player, the Miami heat have always wanted.
11:20And I'm sorry, but you want to talk about no hope.
11:26And what would the Miami beat of be with Kevin Durant?
11:28I don't know, but I just saw another star go down in the East with a blown Achilles kind
11:35of feels like it's as open as it's ever been to me.
11:38And you're, and that, by the way, it shows two things.
11:41One, you don't really believe in Tyler hero and bam on a bio, because if you don't believe
11:45adding to those guys at all time score, major contender, then what do you believe those
11:49guys to be?
11:50What do you believe in those guys to be?
11:52And if you're telling me you believe in your, your young guys, well then tell your goddamn
11:56coach to act like you play him, tell him to believe in his young guys and play him like
12:03he believes in those young guys, because you guys are stuck here in this seesaw of mediocrity
12:09and you don't act like you have any path because I know we're going to go into this year.
12:14Are you going to start Nikola Jovich?
12:16Are you going to play him like you wouldn't touch him in a Kevin Durant deal?
12:20Or are you going to be like, eh, I don't know what his role is.
12:22Maybe the sixth man.
12:24Are you going to actually give Kalel Ware the tools to succeed?
12:28Will you give him a playmaking guard who can get him the damn basketball?
12:32Or are you just going to be like, nah, this is a cool asset to have.
12:36So fine.
12:37You don't want to go all in and Kevin Durant and you want to say, don't know what we would
12:41have been with him.
12:42Okay.
12:42I'll hear those arguments, but your path better not be.
12:46We shaved off 10 millions, got you DeMar DeRozan because Wiggins never wanted to be here and
12:51you're going to sit here or, or dude, if you don't really believe in Bam and Tyler and you
12:58don't think that adding Kevin Durant to those two guys can make you any semblance of good
13:02in the East, which sucks.
13:05If you don't believe that, then you better take a long look in the mirror at those two
13:10guys and start wondering, what can we get for them?
13:14Be a real organization that I know you to once be and pick a direction because this is
13:21rudderless and you're pissing your fans off because every single time it feels like you
13:28allow your team to be thrown into these negotiations just simply as a leverage play.
13:33That's how it always ends up every single time, whether it be for Spida, whether it be for
13:40Harden, whether it be for Damian Lillard, whether it be for Kevin Durant, you're being used.
13:47East, what are you going to do about this?
13:52You have an East as open as it's ever been.
13:54You have a $50 million center and you have a $50 million guard or wants to be a $50 million
14:00guard.
14:01Do you believe in those guys or do you not?
14:04Because if you're going to give this bull bleep offer for Kevin Durant, to me, it tells
14:09you, well, they're not a Kevin Durant away from cranking it up and making an actual East run.
14:13Okay, then what are they because they didn't have Jimmy Butler for half a season.
14:19I understand it was a lot to deal with, but they flagrantly failed in being face of the
14:25franchise guys without them, without those JB training wheels around.
14:29They got blown out in the midst of a series like we have never seen.
14:34So, I just want to know, Pat, Andy, Mickey, Nick, Spoh, Zoe, what the hell are you doing?
14:50What's the plan?
14:55That was beautiful.
14:57I couldn't say that any better.
15:00I 100% agree with you.
15:04Like, and this is why last year, if you had played all of your young players, if for
15:18any other reason other than having more things to trade, because now here's what you have.
15:26You have two guys you like, but nobody else has seen play basketball on a consistent basis.
15:34Kalol, a little more at the end of the year.
15:37But, so you have those two guys.
15:39You have Bam and Tyler.
15:41Now, I can understand why you want to keep Tyler, even though Tyler might be better off the
15:52ball, but you've put him at point guard.
15:57There's just a lot of things that aren't very clear as to the direction of the team.
16:04It's hard for me to get this in my brain.
16:12This is the hardest part for me.
16:16When you say, these two guys are untouchable, but you haven't touched them either.
16:24It's a weird, it's a weird, it's a weird dynamic.
16:27And I thought I was on an island when I said I wouldn't trade Kalol or Jovich, but I didn't
16:34think the Heat would think that because you're not playing them like they're important to
16:40you.
16:41Schmieden says it well, where he says the Heat have to decide on extending Nico.
16:44They could actually extend him this year, but he's going to be going into the final year
16:47of his contract.
16:49What do you know what he's worth?
16:50Right.
16:51What do you know?
16:52Well, like, what, what is his, what's his value to you guys?
16:55What is it?
16:56I love the guy.
16:58I love him as a player.
16:59I love watching Nikola Jovich play basketball, but like, what do you guys see?
17:04Like, it's just, is there any, is there anything here?
17:07Any semblance of a team that's going to actually do anything?
17:12Do you believe in yourself?
17:13Cause it doesn't even feel like you guys believe in yourselves.
17:16That's the thing.
17:17Their actions don't fully explain this past weekend, right?
17:25Like how you have treated Kalel and Jovich don't quite coincide or, or look like the comments
17:36you've made about them, right?
17:38Like how you played them certainly doesn't seem like they're untouchable.
17:42So I'll do something.
17:44Yeah.
17:45All right.
17:45So I'll get you all that.
17:46If you've got your attention, it's really well.
17:47But I'll just go back to girl.
17:48Like, I'll keep going since I was at one of my dreams.
17:51Bye.
17:52I'll be back.
17:52Bye.
17:52I'm going to ask.
17:53Bye.
17:54Bye.
17:55Bye.
17:55Bye.
17:56Bye.
17:57Bye.
17:58Bye.
17:58Bye.
18:00Bye.
18:01Bye.
18:02Bye.
18:03Bye.
18:04Bye.
18:05Bye.
18:05Bye.
18:07Bye.
18:08Bye.
18:08Bye.
